I saw a video clip of Beyonce saying that she was always very shy and awkward, though, of course always loved to sing. She then shared that when she began on day to be a different person on stage, all of her fears went away, and she was able to perform on a whole different level, and without out holding back. She even made a unique name for herself when on stage. For the rest of her career she would channel a different part of herself when on stage. This is much like split personality disorder. It's called disassociation. I knew a guy who was molested by his adopted father since literally his infancy, and by the time the kid was a teen in high school, he had developed 14 different (multiple) personalities. And he didn't even realize it. His mind was literally that fragmented that he didn't know he was different people (identities) until just out of high school. Buffy Sainte-Marie seems to be a genuine Narcissist and/or Sociopath who willingly, and methodically decided that she would make a career out of a persona that she created for herself. The white Italian girl would "become" a Cree Indian from Canada. During this process she, over the years, slowly began to relinquish almost all ties with her real (blood) family. Even threatening her brother with some alleged r@pe charges if he ever told the truth about her actual race. Ok, so, to compare to Beyonce, I can appreciate Beyonce as a singer and entertainer, but there is no question that Buffy Sainte-Marie was on a whole other musical level than miss Beyonce, who's career and image was groomed from the start. Her "production-team" created the sale of her image and records. Nothing wrong with than in the sense of the working business of entertainment. More power to her. But Buffy Sainte-Marie, on the other had was a highly accomplished musician. Without question she goes the top list of great female songwriters. Even Elvis Presley coved one of her tunes, and he even had one of her songs played during his wedding. The REAL question is, would Buffy Sainte-Marie have excelled at her craft if she had not "pretended" to be something else; Something bigger, greater and grander. that was she felt she was. The answer is sort of a No. Because the Narcissist is a false presence to begin with. They eternally hide in a fear of ever knowing their true, authentic self. The child inside them was robbed long, long ago. Just like my friend who was abused even in the crib. He never had a chance. As far as professor Sam Vaknin would diagnose, there can be no redemption for Mrs Buffy Sainte-marie. Because, by the definition of her condition, she can never merge back into herself. True Narcissism is one of the few "incurable" psychological illnesses. Same thing for a psychopath. All of Buffy Sainte-Marie's activism was real and authentic; And actually was filled with genuine understanding (if not care). It's not that Buffy Sainte-Marie had no heart. She simply had no SELF. The only real question is how did God's music channel itself through her. Because her music was real. I'm a degreed composer; Trust me on this. Even the keys she would use for different particular themes was right in line with the Classical composers understanding of pitch psychology. To be honest, any good musician knows this intuitively Naturally. Buffy Sainte-maire was a natural. A natural psycho. Back then a Baptismal Certificates written by a Priest with a Child’s name of the adults presenting the Child was used as good as Birth Certificates are used today.
