I love these old planes....I love the sound at takeoff. My first airplane ride was a DC-9 from Chicago to Springfield IL in the mid 60's. The new planes just don't sound the same.
Gosh I miss these things, I love you posting videos way after the fact! Flying on my first 717 in 19 days and hope to feel that intensity the Super 80 had. Cheers!
Sure do miss these. Just got invited by DL to come tour the HQ and Tech Ops in ATL a few weeks ago, they still have some MD-88/90 parts laying around. I miss hearing those JT8D's.
@@jonahair747 Well you nailed it! My only exceptional trip was on Capitol Air from LA To JFK a 707 or maybe DC8 not sure which, we came out of the clouds and when we were about a foot from touchdown, we pulled back up full power. The pilot calmly said "we have to try again because there was a plane still on the runway" That was cool!
The older, the better. You should see what happens behind the scenes with these new modern pieces of junk we have now… if you knew, you’d be begging to fly on a 30yr old airplane instead… the airlines choose quantity over quality these days. Keep that in mind. There’s a reason that DC-9’s, MD-80’s & 727’s are still flying for cargo in the US! They’re built to last. The classics are nothing like the garbage we have now.

@@curts6525 amen to that!!!
Still a most beautiful plane ever!
It is
No auto - pilot on that approach ! Throttles , yoke , & rudder - Nice and coordinated . Smooth -
Flying it manual is the way to go and is makes the flight that much more fun!!
If you look closely at the 17:12 mark, you can see homes that were damaged/destroyed by the ef-3 tornado from the previous month.
Long live the Mad Dogs!
Amen!!
Great workhorse of a jet. Pretty fast too! Delta has gotten its money's worth out of that jet.

Retired by Delta in June 2020 due to COVID, however Delta planned retirement at end of same year. Last MD 88 delivered December 1993.

I miss those JT’s with a passion…
Love the buzzsaw sound at takeoff. I flew on these types often with Southeast air from Stewart NY to St Pete Clearwater
Wow it gets right up there!
This was a full power (TOGA) takeoff! We were heavy, taking off on a shorter runway which was a perfect recipe for an amazing departure!

I flew in an MD 88 in 2012 to Missouri-excellent aircraft!✈️
I always get slightly worried when getting on these older planes. The climbing tends to get me the most.

Thank you!
i have a question, what is your video quality setting in sony cx220 camera and do you have active stabilization on or just standard
