www.RobertGoule... *A rare gem not seen since 1968!! ROBERT GOULET as Fred Graham / 'Petruchio' sings "So In Love" KISS ME KATE Directed by: Paul Bogart
Not only the superb voice but the phrasing of the lyrics in this difficult piece, all show Robert Goulet to be at the pinnacle of his art. To those who call themselves 'singers' today, just take time to watch and listen to this genius of song. My husband introduced me to Robert and his music and I am so grateful that his work is immortalised here. Thank you Vera and thank you Robert.
One of the most genuine "True Broadway Baritones" to ever occupy the stage. Why is it almost impossible to hear a real male voice on Broadway any more???
It really is rare to hear someone who has such a strong, legit, perfect voice and also have that charismatic stage presence. Robert Goulet was a treasure.
I don't understand why this clip doesn't have hundreds of thousands (or millions) of views. It is an unparalleled artistic masterpiece. Cole Porter + Robert Goulet = genius.
This IS a gem! I remember watching this TV Musical in 1969 when I was 18 and a vocal student myself (also a baritone). Robert’s gorgeous voice inspired me to intensify my efforts and I began singing in public a few years later. His voice is still one of the sexiest out there and few have equalled his style and delivery. Vera, you must miss him terribly. Thank you so much for this gift.
What an incredible version. It's nice to hear a man sing (in my range - not everyone is a tenor)! His singing is great but he's obviously an actor as well. My acting teacher from college said the goal of any art is to make it look easy (even though it isn't). I'm not very old but I really want to scream, "Where are all the singers like this today?"
Vera....now that I have discovered U Tube....i spend so much time listening to Mr. Goulet....realizing that he definetly had the most beautiful voice of any Broadway or TV singer,,,ever! Thank you for these precious tapes!
I watched this when I was 9 and I will never forget it. TV was great back then. Too bad we can't buy the DVD's of this Carousel and Brigadoon all starring Robert Goulet. I am so happy that I grew up when there was decent TV.
Good Lord this man could really sing! Perfect technique, and NOT oversung. He opens up just when he needs to and we get to hear that perfectly-balanced bright yet warm sound. I agree - we don't hear this kind of voice any more on Broadway. I love modern Broadway but I miss the GREAT voices for sure, like Goulet's. Young men, listen well. This is how adult men can sound (if you work at it!).
I was looking for Brigadoon... and came upon this. God.... he was magnificent. I've never heard or seen this song better done. Thank you for posting this gem.
Hi I was very fortunate to meet the fabulous Robert Goulet here on way theater after one of his many plays I've seen of him in it After the play I thought for us to get a rose each from flower guy outside the theater ..I had red rose my sister a pink one and friend yellow the three of us. my sister best friend from work and I went backstage and the stage manager was so nice we were all dressed in pretty dresses And asked the stage manager if we could see mr Goulet. He went to his dressing room and so did we. Gave him our flowers each one And told him how much we loved his performance he was so happy. Note you don't have to act like a wild person ...being nice normal will get you what you want x o
Thank you for posting this! It's getting harder and harder to find good baritones to listen to in the Broadway rep, and Goulet was truly one of the greatest. Great recording of a wonderful song by an excellent singer.
This is one of RG's top performance videos on youtube. Thank you Vera. Robert was at the zenith of his talent here. I have watched it 100 times and will keep watching it.
Wow, what a beautiful interpretation of this song. Robert put so much emotion into it. I remember him joking about hitting the high notes, but, as he proves here, he could hit them with more force and beauty than any other popular singer. Thank you for sharing this video with us, Vera. His voice was such a wonder to behold. I love that we can still enjoy it.
Perhaps the versions of these for tv musicals could be released on dvd format. I would be honored to be able to purchase them. Thank you for sharing the recordings of Mr. Robert Goulet.
Thank you for sharing your story David. Yes, I miss him with every single breath I take but it is comforting when I see comments such as yours, knowing that Robert's talent touched so many lives.
Vera, thank you for sharing Mr Goulet's meticulous & flawless talent with those of us who appreciated & loved him. Christopher Gambol said it well & markm835 summed it up well - to Michael Clearman's notation! Wonderful notes all!
I PLAYED THE LEAD IN "KATE" IN NEW LONDON NEW HAMPSHIRE PLAYHOUSE..1966..& I NEVER COULD SING LIKE BOB GOULET, BUT I GOT THRU IT...GREAT ARTIST, WAS/IS BOB.
Listening to Robert Goulet always touches me extremely Deep ! He is unmatcht:-) Being a Young Baritone Its so inspiring to listen to such a Great Artist ! He is One of my Idols !!! :-)
Ok I have been looking at all his performances you have posted and I must say I think this is his best one and all I can say is it is simply outstanding
Thank you for posting this footage! I feel like I've been let in on a rare find! So amazing to be able to see him in this role in his vocal prime! Thank you Vera for your efforts to get this video up for us to see, enjoy and appreciate all the more in tribute to Robert Goulet, of the best male singers ever in the musical theater genre!
Shakespeare and Porter both geniuses off course... But with Robert Goulet, the emotions (so to say) shaped in flesh and bones. See and feel all of it in his manner. Gestures are real. And eyes... He intensifies the power of his tigering, fadeless, lovely voice with those genuine looks. PS: Do not watch this video when you're in love. It'll be overdose.
Dear I'm drooling for you you are so beautiful truly. I loved all the plays you were in and guest shows your one of a special kind Bway is not the same just isn't Great talent now but no magic like back in day
Apropos of nothing, back in the day they put out vinyl of all three of the musicals Mr. Goulet did for television. I've got 'em. It would be nice, however, if they did release them on DVD.
@McGarvinStudios Down with Frank Wildhorn! He's the most notorious creator of Broadway tenor heroes! (Jekyll and Hyde, the Scarlet Pimpernel, and the Count of Monte Cristo)
Mario frangoulis and lara Fabian do this as well from the movie delovely its my favourite but I love anything goulet sings especially I wont send roses
Love his performance, but the slowing of the tempo ( probably not his call) slightly interferes with the natural flow of the song. Still, what he does with the last "til I die" is so killer.

Forty-two years later, he still makes me weak in the knees. There is nobody to compare with him. I hope this can come out on DVD some day soon!
Far out, am I crying? I'm crying! What a beautiful performance!
Cole Porter as interpreted by Mr. Robert Goulet...perfection personified!
I don't understand why this clip doesn't have hundreds of thousands (or millions) of views. It is an unparalleled artistic masterpiece. Cole Porter + Robert Goulet = genius.

Vera, I miss Robert so much in his perfect singing.
Wonderful! One of Cole Porter's best songs, sung so perfectly.
No one can touch this performance, truly superb.....thank you Vera.
This man has portrayed the soul of this wonderful song with his God given gift ... his voice. A beautifully sensitive rendition.
What a voice, what a presence. I sure love this singer. Thank you Robert to have share your talent with us all those years.
Vera....now that I have discovered U Tube....i spend so much time listening to Mr. Goulet....realizing that he definetly had the most beautiful voice of any Broadway or TV singer,,,ever! Thank you for these precious tapes!
What a voice - man, he really had it all!
I watched this when I was 9 and I will never forget it. TV was great back then. Too bad we can't buy the DVD's of this Carousel and Brigadoon all starring Robert Goulet. I am so happy that I grew up when there was decent TV.

I can't think of anything to say except WOW, WOW, WOW!!
Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.....
There are male singers and then there's Robert Goulet - a perfect package of looks and voice - irresistible and unforgettable. RIP.
HellO-oooh! Haven't you ever heard of Frank Sinatra‽
The GREATEST voice EVER !!
It just doesn't get any better than this, does it?
One of the greatest songs of all time, for me.
Jesus, what a tresure this video is!!!
They should play this performance to all the so called singers, and suggest the all retire.
Robert Goulet was simply superb.
I second that emotion
I was looking for Brigadoon... and came upon this. God.... he was magnificent. I've never heard or seen this song better done. Thank you for posting this gem.
Vocally and artistically exquisite! Bravo Maestro G!
There is room for many kinds of genius. Robert Goulet could never be Sinatra or Pavarotti, but neither of them could ever be Robert Goulet.
So many of us would love a DVD of Kiss Me Kate. Will we ever see one?
You know what? This is an incredible lesson of art....S!So simple and Perfect!
This song has such a poignant insistence to it when Robert Goulet sings it. It's heartbreakingly beautiful!!!
MacPherson100000 I agree. Thank you for your very observant comment.
I miss his singing so much. His phrasing was better than any of his contemporaries, even now....what a treasure
Respects to Vera Goulet, Thanks for the video.
Beautiful, he was incomparable, his voice is so sweet, his expression so perfect. There will never be anyone to match him. RIP Robert.
Love it!! This is my absolute favorite musical! I had no idea he once played Fred /petruchio in this. What a wonderful surprise.. Thank you!

Fulya Öktem, agree. But it is appropriate in so many instances...sigh.
@quagskag55 It's sad that there aren't any roles on Broadway for baritones anymore. All the new stuff is written for tenors!
Great interpretation!
+Gene Slavin Thank you for your kind comment Gene. Please keep visiting my husband's channel. Vera Goulet

@Askmymotherwhy65 My pleasure. Oh yes that god given voice was amazing.

What idiot disliked it??? This is absolutely fascinating.
Does anyone know what the key is?
After some digging I discovered that this is actually the reprise of "So in Love".
