Just found this amazing resource a couple of days ago. I've watched several videos and build half a dozen 4 framed double nucs ready for next year. I'm in North Yorkshire and plan to do my first lot of queen rearing next year. Thanks again.
Excellent point about Q cells. Only a colony with quite good underlying health can/will make them. I hope that your talk at the NHS 2023 is on the Honey Show channel, unfortunately missed it as I was busy stewarding, but I sent you some customers.
Sorry, My NHS talk was in the Beginners Programme, that isn't recorded for financial reasons. I had one person listen to me who has kept bees for 57 years! He said it should have been in the main programme because it's relevant to all. I will try to do it as a webinar. Roger
Older Bees tend to be more aggressive , " stingers " Younger , newer Bees haven't yet worked out " Defend the Hive " So larger Hives have a larger content of Bees and a larger content of more mature Bees ..... more Defenders , Defense will be higher Thanks for reading
Hello just a quick question do bad temperament bees have bad genetics drones so if I put a queen Excluder on the hive to stop them getting out would that mean I would stop them mating with my new Queens on the mating flight😊
Roger... Re Two Frame Nucs... Might be confusing, as Stateside TH-camr(s) often use "x2" Frames (only) Nucs (!) See * Tip: Re this Video... Roger uses, x2 Frames, eg x1 Food, x1 Bees, both placed into a x5 Frame Nuc Box ! Where he adds additional x3 Frames of Drawn out Comb.... So it's not really a x2 Frame 'Nuc'. Maybe splitting hairs, but Newbie Beeks might think .... ???? Dave, Yes ! Depending on Location and Timing... I'm in Scotland, so Bee Season is much shorter than say South England. Tip : Make sure you have a Good Frame of Brood in All Stages (Capped : future Nurse Bees, Larva ditto, in more future. Eggs so they can raise Queen Cells) : Or Donate ones into x2 Framer of Queen traits you like ! Feed, feed, feed ! Raising a Queen takes x16 Days, and Workers x21 Days : So this Diddy Colony will lose Population quicker than it can replace them*. So at intervals either swap the weakest frame out, (shake off Bees!) And add a Full Capped Brood into it'd place... No Queen or Eggs ! As your making a Queen of "your choice". Again feed feed feed. Do all this before beginning of August... it will be September before you know if you have a OK x2 Framer, that needs to be a x5 Framer, or more before Bee Build up for Winter ! 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Winter Build up starts sooner than you think. I court a swarm late last year I my garden that turned up very little about the size of all water melon didn’t think they would make it through the winter at my last inspection they was very aggressive came at me very offensive and tried stinging my gloves 20 to 50 times I was hoping that they would not make it through winter and starve to death but me being responsible for keeping Bees decided to feed them and get them through winter and re-Queen in the spring have I made the right choice I wonder what are your thoughtsOn this subject
Glad to hear you caught a swarm. Late season swarms most likely are stressed. I think you did the right thing by saving them. If they are nasty next season then make a decision based on your tolerance for stinging bees.

After freezing drone frames - can you just put back into hive ( they will remove dead drones) or cut them out/off ?
