one of the lines in this song is "Hey, man, thanks". When he passed, people posted online about Gord, and most were "Hey, man, thanks"
His lyrics had such an impact for Canadians, who could identify with the songs, because a lot og Hip songs were about Canada.

The whole concert was on CBC (Canada’s national broadcaster) it was sent live across the country with no interruptions for advertising, a very large percentage of the Canadian population and a lot of the border states watched a MAN on his last legs of life put on one of the greatest live shows ever.

The Tragically Hip opened for Rush in 1991. I remember my friend and three of us went. Unfortunately, he had to sit in another section of the arena because he got his ticket late. That was one great show.

Canadian Rock Royalty. There is probably nobody in Canada over the age of 30 who doesn't have a ton of youthful memories where THE HIP weren't also part of the mix. My favorite HIP song has always been
"LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO HAPPEN" for it's NASTY NASTY ..............NAAAASTY GUITAR RIFFAGE. It's a barnburner.
    R.I.P Gord.

Great reaction!! The Hip are indeed a Canadian staple! They've been a constant in my life since the early 90's. Their music, but especially their lyrics, are storytelling at it's finest!
HIGHLY recommend: Bobcaygeon (my #1 track- it's a small place outside of Kingston, Ontario - it's a slower track, but such a groove), Ahead By A Century, Locked In The Trunk Of A Car, Wheat Kings, Grace Too, Little Bones...and that's just to continue the journey!
    Cheers from Canada, eh!!

Pretty much every Rush fan was a Hip fan, although not every Hip fan was a Rush fan. Put another way, the Hip were way, way bigger in Canada than Rush ever was (and this is coming from a guy whose first of around a dozen Rush concerts was in 1984, when I was just 16 years old).
Geddy and Alex were Hip fans too. For example, Geddy inducted the Hip into Canada’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.
And in 2021, a few years after the passing of the Hip’s lead singer, Gord Downey (from the same cancer that had taken Neil Peart at the beginning of 2020), Alex and Geddy both presented the remaining members of the Hip with a Humanitarian Award, recognizing the Hip’s many charitable endeavours over the years.
As an aside, The guys in Rush were quietly known to be big philanthropists as well, although they strove to keep their giving on the QT.
PS - Geddy appears in the new Netflix series on the Hip called “No Dress Rehearsal.”

Hello, Pretty Head That Is Red: Yes, we used to do the she loves me thing on those daisies that look like chamomile flowers. With all due respect, the only thing that is tragic about this is that you have not done any Gordon Lightfoot songs yet! Great reaction though and thank you for doing this one.

My work music stream (downloads via app) from Radio Paradise plays this tune a good bit. Pretty good near NOLA sound from folks not from NOLA.
I lived in and around NOLA from late 1984 to 2004, Good food, great music, Nice Zoo and Aquarium, and otherwise, I wish it'd sink away. Hate the place.
