Such a nice video Heidi. I used to see cleavers everywhere when I lived in California but did not know it was such a beneficial plant. Btw I love your vest and shirt. You look younger all the time. ❤
Wish I had this when I had Covid. It got into my lymph nodes and was debilitating. Started my cleavers tincture three weeks ago. I’ll be prepared if it happens again. Thank you Heidi!
Thanks, Manette! Yes, I need to do that. I really need to organize the herb and oil room first. Moving is SO hard, and I've been making things for people and not putting things away, LOL
For a salad dressing, do you mix olive oil or anything else with the vinegar? I love that many of the herbs (weeds) found in the spring have tons of minerals and health benefits. What are some other spring herbs good for salad dressings?
Other spring herbs high in nutrition are chickweed, dandelion leaf, dead nettle, henbit, and some others. It's pretty interesting that the first plants up every year strengthen our bodies!
Im so glad you shared this information. Behind my fence is a ton of cleavers growing. I never knew anything about it. I live in Texas. So mine have already flowered. But next year I will make a vinegar recipe for sure. This information is very helpful.
I agree with Umpquagirl! Corn silk is definitely helpful for UTI. And I've been known to take massive amounts of cranberry tablets (do NOT drink the juice---the bacteria actually like the sugar). The cranberry keeps the bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall. I use wood sorrel. It works better than antibiotics. It's high in oxalates, so I don't overuse it - but I find that a cup a day of wood sorrel tea for about 3 days knocks a UTI right out.
Hi Heidi. Thank you for all of the great information. Since the alcohol may not allow the release of minerals out, will dried cleavers made into a hot tea allow the minerals out? My concern is if/when you don’t have access to fresh, hopefully the tea will give you the goodness. Thank you.
Thank you. If dried and used as a tea, will it still help with kidney problems, or swelling in the body ? Lastly, to be effective, does the plant have to be harvested and used before it goes to seed?
Thank you Heidi. I will be looking for this wonderful herb this week. I just got done harvesting willow bark and drying it. Do you dry willow bark before using it as an infused oil? Do you dry willow bark before using it as a tincture? When using these cleavers in a salad, do you use the very young cleavers? Namaste dear Heidi.
I wish I found your video sooner I did actually do a cleaver Tincture, this spring. , I actually had vegetable glycerin and apple cider vinegar so I'm kind of kicking myself I didn't do a little more research but thank you for the information. Greatly appreciated. Out of curiosity, what part of northern Idaho are you from because. I used to live in Kamiah Idaho I was born in Boise raised in Nampa I am currently a resident of Mississippi
Hi Heidi. I just found your channel. I grow my own herbs and have been trying to learn as much as I can about using them. I recently learned that when using herbs to infuse oil that to prevent botulism the herb should be soaked in citric acid first. Does the vinegar act as the acid to make the vinegar safe to consume in a salad dressing?
Hmmm...Well, I've never heard of this, and I'm assuming you're speaking of the fresh herb? I'm not a fan of infusing fresh herbs in oil with the exception of St. John's wort. Otherwise, I make sure my herbs are freshly and completely dried.
Yes, I use my larger one. That little one was my first, and I love it, but it's just too small. I've done a few videos on distilling! Here's one of them, and you can search for others I've done: th-cam.com/video/terpfXN53GU/w-d-xo.html
I was wondering about infusing cleavers in a carrier oil to make a salve? Is this something that you can use cleavers for? If so, do you let them dry wilt first? 😊 Thanks.
If you're talking about the process the Swiss use --- cleavers as a filter, then yes, some of the plant benefits will end up in the milk. But really it's just a great plant to act as a filter.

Isn't it wonderful when we learn how to work with a gift from the Creator that's been there just waiting for us to relearn the old knowledge?
I’m so happy I ran across this. I’ve been struggling with uti for 3 months
Have you tried using corn silk? That is my go to for UTI issues. Corn silk tea and high vitamin C intake. Now im going to add in the cleavers😊

Yes, the water will help draw out the minerals. :-)

Yes, I dry the willow first. And I just use all the cleavers, LOL. The younger leaves are more tender, though.

Welcome to the community! I'm about 30 minutes from Kamiah!
after picking them do you wash them first
I'm curiois, too. Maybe a short soak and rinse?
It just depends on where I'm foraging. But yes, generally I do a quick rinse and then air dry. :-)

I love your helpful teaching. I notice the copper distiller in the background. Do you use it, and if so would you do a video on how to use it?
Yes, I use my larger one. That little one was my first, and I love it, but it's just too small. I've done a few videos on distilling! Here's one of them, and you can search for others I've done: th-cam.com/video/terpfXN53GU/w-d-xo.html
@@HeidiVillegas thank you so much. I will check it out.

Absolutely, you can do this. Cleavers is so helpful for the skin! I'll be making some as well.
I love it in salad’s. It taste like ice burge lettuce
Do you just eat the leaves and leave out the stems?
@@myslicechannel just the leaves but the stems are fine if the are small
Sounds so good!
So if i milked goats, and use the cleavers, will it be good for cheesemaking? What are the benefits in the cheese?

Can you dry it and use it in an oil? was wanting to use in a salve
Yes, you can.
can you make a balm with cleavers?
Yes, you sure can!
Thanks for sharing I look forward to your videos , I think I will make some vinegar also.
Oh, the vinegar is great!
