I built one of these for my dorper sheep after watching this very informative video. The issue I have found is that the older sheep can get their heads stuck inside the IBC cage. We've only had it out in the paddock for a day and the ram was stuck fast and had to be freed, and the following day we had 2 young wethers stuck in the same hole, resulting in one being killed. I'm going to use gate mesh to close down the cage gaps to stop them being able to push their heads in, and only making the ends of the V shaped funnel and the tray below accessible. Other than this, its a cheap and great way to feed the sheep and it definitely worked. I'll just make it a bit safer for my sheep breed.
My husband and I have been looking for ideas to make a feeder. Prices have skyrocketed for everything. We considered making one out of wood, but I don't want to have to rebuild it any time soon. This idea was perfect. I just watched a video prior to yours of doing the same thing. Weather protection and a catch at the bottom for loose hay were not considered. These were the factors that I made my decision on as to which I would build. Yours definitely took the cake with these particular additions. Thank you so much for making this video!
You should use the corner off cut pieces to finish off the V … it provides a rounded edge rather than any sharp edges. And yes I have a couple of these ripper feeders. The girls love em and the Llama gets his treats on the roof where the girls can’t reach. Can’t recommend enough to anyone thinking just do it.
I’ve seen several videos of this but yours is the best method. The way you modified is safer than most for livestock! We have access to many so will be putting them to good use. Thx for the great video!
" Mother in Law's Motorbike"... I'm guessing she doesn't watch your vids... or she is got a great sense of humor! Reuse and repurpose... cornerstones of ranchers and farmers. Great Vid... AGAIN... Mr. Thompson.
@@FarmLearningTim Your a lucky man Mr. Thompson, as am I. Also did you really think your eternally curious sheep would stop knocking over your video cam if you told it "don't"? Hahaha... It's like telling my jughead calf not to poke it's head through the wire fence and bend over the T posts... teenagers... Whaddya going to do. 😁
Tim! You are such a genius! This is a beautiful and remarkable repurposing useful feeder invention! I’m sending this off to everyone I know with sheep, goats and miniature horses! What can you repurpose/recycle for horses? Saddle horses and Percheron Draft horses? 😍😎🤩 thanks again Tim!
Yet another great video. 10 minutes of my time well spent. 👍 I'll be making a couple of these for when I get stock in. A lot of fencing to be done before then though.
Love it, I would have probably used some split black poly over the sharp edges of the cage, otherwise I'm going to make one just like this, thanks for sharing 👍

The best one I've seen by far! You nailed it Dude! 👊 I've got the problem, got a tote, and now, a solution. Thank you Sir!
I'm only 2 minutes in and just cracked up laughing at the motorbike comment

Just built ours, cracking idea. We used old poly pipe to cover the edges instead of bending the plastic.
Your a talented man Mr Timmo Tommo. Thats the perfect feeder
Cheers mate.... Or should I say TonyWony 😂
Haha love it. Thanks for all the knowledge
Screw in tent anchors can keep it from blowing away

What a brilliant & useful idea,
Have a few food grade ones stored, which can now be repurposed
Thanks Tim for your excellent videos

Thanks for the video
Just what I was looking for this very fine morning! Now I need to look around for some discarded IBCs...
Great job
This is brilliant thanks Tim. I’ve got one of these sitting in the shed looking forward a purpose 👍
And maybe up cycling some wheelchair wheels (removable just for transporting it around daily… just a thought🤔🤔🤔
I am so glad I stumbled across this video! Do you have a DIY idea similar to this one that can be used to hold a full round bale while in pasture
There are a stack of round bale feeder rings on the market but I am yet to see a diy hack…. I’ll keep my eyes open
great job mate
Thanks mate!
awesome job and awesome vid
What a great idea! We have some of those lying around the farm. Think we will turn them into sheep hay feeders. Thanks Tim!
Tim, you are kinda on the right track. When you start getting into Biodynamic applications, then you'll really start getting somewhere.
Yeah.... keep watching......
@@FarmLearningTim I'll look forward to it. Steiner was a visionary genius.
Hello, love this idea, thanks for sharing have a great day Donald @moneypit homestead
I make these for about $30 sell em for 150 its honest work
And so you should mate. Well done
Hi Tim,
Maybe you could have used the 'corners' you cut out in the first step in the bottom of the V.
I’ve got another project lined up for them. Wrong angle and no oxy
Great video! Subscribed!
Ya should have used a flame thrower instead of a heat gun! Great video!
Great idea! Wonder if Elon Musk has any left?
@@FarmLearningTim not sure if they ship to Australia but XPRODUCTS here in the US have some amazing flamethrowers
I just googled them... seriously..... what the heck???

maybe drill a lot of holes in the base to let water drain -
That’s why I removed the valve.
Laughed my ass off at the comment “mother in laws motorbike “
