He’s not immune to punishment like in the final season when he finally gets his license, his parents punish him for doing it without telling them (regardless of him doing it safely).
Why didn’t Frankie believe Brick when he said he didn’t check out the book or lose the book. He told her and didn’t whisper “I’m lying” he does that when he’s lying and he didn’t.
She figured he forgot it like he forgets most stuff. Has to be this episode but when she got home everyone was eating dinner. She got mad and Brick mentioned something like oh yeah, mom was arrested and needs to be picked up. Obviously not his fault with the book but if he did forget about it, it wouldn't be a lie if he said he didn't check it out. A lie requires you to know the truth, and he would just be too stupid to remember the truth.
@@seanwebb605but she looked guilty, like she remembered she got it after she heard what it was. She didn't side eye him, like Mike did to her, when they figured it out.
I wonder if in real life you would get arrested for an overdue library book. I just love how her character here gets arrested just like her character in Raymond lol
Can't help but pass the blame. Also here, claimed she never got the summons then immediately shifted to blaming others for not following her system, then to blaming whoever sent it for not making it look official enough.
Not sure, but it's possible there's also court costs for ignoring the 2 summons. Plus it's a show, think it was married with children where the dad was in his 40s and found out he still had a book out from when he was a kid. The fee was hundreds of dollars. Doubt it would happen in real life, but show logic.
@@tonyblake7569 In my jurisdiction you simply wouldn't be fined more than the retail value of the book. It certainly wouldn't have resulted in a summons. So no court costs etc. No you wouldn't be arrested for such a thing where I am.
It’s is theft of something or somethings of value. Most libraries have max fines. This book would not cost that much. But several seasons back when Sue tried out of swim team she knew she had $187 in fines. Outstanding traffic tickets could cause an arrest if you don’t pay them. Why not library fines. It would probably fines for many books. Libraries permit 30/50/150 items at a time. A dollar fine for each 10 days late and you have $150 right there. Likely fines on everyone’s library card. It’s why they have not been used. But the point was it was likely her book. Although he was reading about menopause at age 9.
Nobody would get arrested for a library book. It's an obviously hyperbolic situation designed to create an outrageous strawman for the characters to complain about. First, library fines are a civil matter, not a criminal one. So you obviously wouldn't be arrested for it. Second library fines never exceed the actual cost of the book. The most she would be charged is whatever amount a replacement might cost. The ONLY conceivable instance where the police might be involved is if someone gained access to some kind of rare materials that a library had (ex. first edition of a famous text or something) and took it either without permission or past the time permitted. In that case, it might rise to the level of "grand larceny" if the value of the book exceeded a certain amount...
@@Robert-hz9bj they do exceed the cost of the book. Cause that is not really the cost of the book. There is also processing costs and labor. Some books can’t be replaced.
@@Robert-hz9bj there are cases you just need to Google if your memory does not go far enough people have been arrested. It’s the total value of fines and missing items that determines it. And if you ignored everything. I worked in a library for 20 years.
My brother once lost a library book, so he couldn't return it. He just stopped going to that library altogether. He got a few letters about it, ignored those and they just stopped coming after a while. That was 15 years ago. It's wild to me that some libraries are getting people arrested over unreturned books and with others they're just like: 'Eh, whatever. We tried.' Also, is it normal in the US that they can arrest you and not even tell you the reason why until you're at the station? Call me crazy, but should they not inform you of the WHY at the place of arrest? Imagine going to jail for a crime you supposedly committed and you have no fkin idea what it was.
Brick always gets away without causing Frankie huge trouble without ever even having to apologise
Did you miss the part where it was a book that Frankie had checked out herself?
@@eli-bt4he yeah, this was her OWN fault. If anything, HE should be mad at HER for blaming him and saying she was gonna kill him.
Being on the spectrum has its privileges.
@eli-bt4he I forgot about that part but my general point about Brick still stands

Lol, this story is funny. My favorite part is when she gets her mugshot taken with that furious look on her face. 😁

There are crimes like not returning an overdue library book
Could be the librarian from back when Al Bundy was in school. 🤷
Seinfield did a whole episode on that subject. Of course, it was overdue by around 30 years, and all that happened was a fine was paid.
The sideye game at the end was on point
Their not kidding
Arrested for liberary books
Ironic that it was Frankie’s book lol but I agree there are real crimes
What about stealing or child abduction or murder?
Did she just try to use her own son as a scapegoat 😆
Yep she did. That is what Frankie does. Never takes responsibility for anything.
She always blames it on the kids.
This show is so underrated
It ran for 9 full seasons. It can't be that unknown
The most she should have to pay is the cost of the book
This wasn’t Bricks fault 😂
We don't know that he didn't get really into romance novels.

Yeah they're all very lazy people.
Nowadays, this doesn't seem too out of the question. 😂
Considering how understanding librarians are when you are late to return a book, I'd say its very out of the question.
@c.barrett5114 I'm talking about the lunacies that we've seen for the last few years.
Its a civil matter, not criminal.
I feel like I'd be more mad they didn't make sure I didn't have small children at home who I would need to get a sitter for
Can you really receive a fine greater than the retail cost of the book? I think in my jurisdiction that's not a thing.
