  • The Chihuahua is one of the smallest dog breeds in the world. Their popularity has increased drastically over the last decade. Unfortunately, their small size and high energy level makes them a difficult breed to feed. This homemade dog food for Chihuahua recipe may be a good option for your pint-sized pooch. Read the full recipe here: topdogtips.com...
    Before switching to this homemade dog food for Chihuahua you'll need to consult your veterinarian or a canine nutritionist. They will evaluate your dog and help you evaluate this (or any other recipe) to determine if it will meet Fido's needs. If not, they'll recommend supplements or multi-vitamins that can be added to ensure the food offers balanced nutrition for your Chihuahua.
    "Steam the corn, carrots and peas. Cook the rice according to the instructions on the package. Scramble and cook the egg. As you will see in my video guide above, I include the shell when I scramble the egg. It adds a great source of natural calcium, but if you prefer you can leave the shell out."

    I make all food for my Chihuahuas, and yes I actually have three Chihuahuas and they eat my homemade food for them. They get a change every week. I am posting the ingredients. Always 2 cups cooked quinoa, ( one week 2 cups cooked rice, next week 2 cups oatmeal, next week two cups cooked barley) Always mixed veggies (no corn). I pressure cook chicken and debone and skin it. I mix this together then heat it every morning for my dogs. They also get a Chihuahua vitamin daily with their food. Two of my dogs are 14 years old, the other is five years old. They are healthy, they have energy and and they are happy. For treats I give them cluster of cauliflower, they love this.

      i make my own food for them too. but i switch up the protein each time. beef and liver, chicken, turkey and salmon. the veggies i use are celery carrot peas green beans, sweet potato, kale, brusslesprouts, broccoli stems, and bitter melon. throw in a handful of cranberries. like 1/4 amount mixture of rice and lentils for added protein and fiber. egg mixed in occasionally also. never thought about quinoa have it in the house, maybe ill try that. have considered the oatmeal tho, but do i keep it in the same ratio as the rice?? they seem healthy and happy, the poops havent changed so im thinking i got the right meat fat fiber ratio. they are such veggie aholics that im almost certain they are getting the vitamins they require. they also get added stuff like left over berries or tomatoes or what have you that is in my fridge when i make it. also looked up herbs that are good for doggos and incorporated some of that into what i make like rosemary and cilantro. hope im doing okay by them! my vet says that they are happy with the diet.

    Do NOT give corn to a Chihuahua. The meat pieces are to large also. If the ingredients were all cooked as shown when blended why bake them. Take the corn out and through it all in a food processor. You also need to add oil such as olive or fish oil or your dog will develop skin issues.

      Doesn’t oil lead to heart disease? If you wanted your Omega 3s why not use flaxseed? Olive oil isn’t nutrient dense for the amount of calories at all. Fish oil has omega 3s but flaxseed meal it a cheaper way to get your omega3s. Just make sure to blend the flax into meal first.

    absolutely not - this diet is virtually void of any nutrition - where are the actual veggies? Peas, carrots & corn are all starches and then added rice?!! umm hell no - we've made our own dog food for over 15 years for our clan of toy breed dogs that lived well past standard years for those breeds. Organic ground beef & pork mixture in some water down beef broth+ added bone meal, along with a veggie puree of spinach & apple, + any other random veggies we had around - the only starch added was some boiled sweet potato. I made the puree up once a month & froze it, and then cooked up the meat once a week (medium) & added this puree and put in small containers for the week. The only health problems we ever had with our 3 Pugs & 1 Yorkie were congenial - otherwise, they were all perfect weight & very healthy. Also many dogs are allergic to poultry. I'm fostering a Chihuahua starting tomorrow & was just looking around for new info and this is not it.

      The only thing you’re doing that is not good for consumption is the pork! Just leave it out. People always think pork is an actual good food and SHOULD BE consumed for good health. My chihuahua don’t eat pork and the only thing (so far) that has effected any of them was the car that hit one.

    • @rickmartinez4730

      I love that you and others cook for your pets. I do too.
      They didn’t do well with rice… and chicken has it’s draw backs, such as allergy causing elements that can create hot spots that are extremely itchy to my chihuahua. Beef liver, beef heart or beef roast are the meats of my choice mixed with boiled veggies such as peas, carrots slices, green Beens, broccoli, cauliflower and on occasion, sweet potato., blue berries and apple pieces.
      I cook it all about every 4 days, reheating each serving with a little natural gravy from the cooked meat and veggie broth. No oil, butter or lard is added as the meat has it’s own fat. Trim most of the fat off the roast before cooking.
      Thank you for sharing ❤

    😬yeaaaa no. No disrespect but I strongly urge no one to follow this recipe. All that rice is a BIG no no for a chihuahua's daily diet. I'd only feed this recipe to a dog that needed a bland meal temporarily. Also, its not nutrient dense at all. The little nutritional value that it had was cooked out and then mixed with fillers. Im curious to know where you learned k9 nutrition

      Turkey is horrible for ALL canine breeds. Too much fat for a dog; especially a chi. It will lead to pancreatitis. Never feed a dog the skin, nor the bones. Google for various thoughts and great articles. If you decide to feed your dog turkey meat...do it as a treat; not an everyday meal source.

    please don't feed this to you Chihuahua! Egg shells need to be grind down into powder otherwise it will get caught in their throats. This food is made for dogs with big teeth...and No corn....how can anyone say this food is great for Chihuahuas when food is fed to a Beagle. No 2 dogs are the same. Also why boil the chicken and then bake it? The meat will be so dry & rubbery. I have a 10 year old mix ChiPin, 7lbs, I feed fresh organic veggies, Whole Foods organic turkey breast with some dark meat (other stores used Rosemary as a preservative) ...the only meat she is not allergic too. Sweet potatoes, celery, zucchini, broccoli all in an Instant Pot- stew like...she gets all her nutrients from the food I feed her...added Dr Mercola Digestive Enzymes. She is active & happy. I've fed her homecooked meals for 10 years and tried to feed her processed dog food (lazy man's diet) and she always had allergic reactions to the preservatives used. Best part her poop don't stink! Her breath doesn't smell. And she rarely has digestion issues.

    Wat the hell, my local kebab house would be more healthy for my chi, with hot chilli sauce on. You know nothing about a chi's remove yourself from TH-cam.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good advice stick to royal canin dry kibble, and royal Canin wet food mix 1 spoon wet, 2 spoon dry 3 times a day start with teaspoon for pups, then increase to desert spoon adult they love it. It's got all vitiamins And nutrition in kibble for a perfect diet. And carrots veg occasionally as a small treat, Goats milk small lidful before bedtime. 👍

      @@Nookie15 Dogs can eat chicken, they always like that. The woman in this video is sort of correct I think, except the chicken pieces look a bit big for a chihuahua. (which is what I have) If there was a chihuahua in this video, (which I don't see) the woman could have cut the chicken pieces up smaller.
      She also made some rice..... now I KNOW it's only White (plain) Rice that dogs can eat. I can't quite work out what type of rice this woman is using. It looks mostly white I think. So I'm just going to assume that's okay for now.

    In defense of you for the nasty comments, you could have ten vets in a room and get ten different opinions on what you should feed your chihuahua and still not know. If you go into a pet store to purchase food for your dog over half of what's on the shelves are loaded with junk that can actually harm your dog. If it works for you and your dog the hell with all the comments.

    • @dyani4755
      @dyani4755 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      She won’t know it doesn’t work until her dog dies. Just because you can’t be sure about the food on shelves doesn’t mean you shouldn’t read up on it. There are many valid comments here as to why it isn’t good.

    They should NOT allow " Tea Cup " Chihuahuas in the show ring ! They should be disqualified ! Anyone that breeds or buys these " Tea Cups " should be Disqualified as a human being ! If someone wants something that weighs only a pound or 2 , They should go y get a gerbil or a hamster !

    I’m not going to comment on the recipe, enough has been said about that. My only complaint is one I see way too often on TH-cam, and that’s using the term “Teacup” Chihuahua. That’s a name made up by unscrupulous breeders so they could sell what is actually just the runts of the litter. 🤦‍♂️

    • @expressivepets1
      @expressivepets1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. No distinction exist in the identification nor the breed standard. Also, 5lbs is not a teacup size anyway. 3lbs max for teacup. Chi's are from 3lbs -10lbs as the breed standard.
