      It’s 2024 and I’ve left messages all over his videos…..wondering if ANYONE knows what happened to Hoop and if he’s okay??? Would you happen to know….because after these last few uploads, he disappeared.

      I’ve been leaving messages on most of Hoop’s videos wondering IF ANYONE knows what happened to him?? After this trip he seemingly disappeared and some of us would like to know if he’s okay?? He had the very best canoe/bushcraft channel hands down.

    Nice to see you back! :) Nothing like being on the water. We picked up a new boat in February...a Prospector 16' in carbon fusion by Swift. She handles very well. Heading for Adirondack Park this August. :)

    I really appreciate your summer canoe videos, especially as I can't make any trip this year. The thing that impresses me most is the machine-like speed with which you paddle. Wish I could see it for real, to gauge just how much I need to improve my act!

    • @Wintertrekker
      @Wintertrekker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind words Peterborough Canoe! (Great YT username by the way! ;-) ). I do vary the cadence depending on wind and waves, and my energy levels. When the wind and waves make tough going, the cadence usually has to slow down and the stroke length has to increase (longer distance pull with more force needed). Now that I have the GoPro, I hope to do more filming in tough paddling conditions. The GoPro is opening up many more filming possibilities. :-)

    Putting on your rain gear and fending off the rocks while standing in your canoe on a windy day? LOL, yeah, I would say that you're back. It's good to see you again. I also love the Prospector. My family has a 1964 Chestnut 16 foot cedar and canvas Prospector that easily handles myself and my two brothers on short trips. It has now reached the status of family heirloom and doesn't get in the water much anymore, but when it does it goes from a slightly leaky 75 lbs to a bone dry 100 lbs as it soaks up the water and seals itself, though I still don't recommend standing up in one.
    Looking forward to the rest of the voyage!

I love the fact that you have those interesting golden nuggets of information about different animals and plants interspersed in your videos. In this one I am referring to the info about stash of clams made by an otter. Very informative as always. Thank you for sharing.

    Great to see you back HOOP! I completely agree with your comment that a narrow prospector makes for a superb choice of tripping boat. I also paddle a 16' prospector with a 34" beam (Evergreen 16') and much prefer it to the wider and slower 36" wide prospectors. However, my experience padding solo boats has led to arrive at a different conclusion than you regarding their relative speed as compared to a narrow prospector. In my experience, solo boats are not necessarily faster! My shorter (15') and narrower (28") Swift Raven is not faster than my 16' x 34" Evergreen - even though it would seem that it should be given the above specs. The reason for this is that the seat of the solo Raven is located further forward than the front seat is on my prospector (when paddled solo style from the bow). Why is this an issue you ask? When paddling my Swift Raven it is necessary to linger longer on the correction of each J stroke in order for the boat to track in a line. When paddling the prospector I do not need to linger as long on the correction part of the J stroke and can paddle at much faster speeds given that I am seated closer to the stern of the canoe. This has been my experience with the above canoes and other's mileage may vary. Thank you for your content! Cheers!

    I like the extra effort you took to change camera angles. I know it must be because you packed or used just one camera but I liked it better than seeing other cameras in your shots. Hopefully what I said makes sense. I’m sure it meant extra stopping and fumbling around but it turned out great.

    Echoing others, I'm so glad you're back! I learn something every time I watch one of your videos (which is one reason you're a favorite of mine). Otters cache clams...who knew?!?! We were just there a couple of weeks ago and I was asking Harlan about you and he had said you were laying low for a bit. We paddled Adventure Lake out to Leano. Saw a campsite we didn't use along Western arm of Bunny that looked a lot like this one in your video. Was curious to know where you were paddling in this video? Thanks again for all of the amazing videos. I think I've watched them all and likely more than once! 👍 Keep'em coming!
