    Fantastic. These ads from the early 80s were more entertaining than most of the programmes nowadays!

    YTV proving as ever they were straight to the point at closedown. Quite a lot of PIF's beforehand mind you, scary for that time of night...

      Very Yorkshire really. No faffing around! I must say I prefer Granada's closedowns from the same period though.

    The ILR promo put together during Martin Kelner's brief stint on Radio Aire breakfast. They'd already parted company with him by the time this went out. There's a similar promo featuring Ross Dickinson on Aire and the magazine show '235 Weekend' on Pennine.

      I remember the PIF about the air weapons when shown on video when I visited Bury Police Station on exhibits about safety.

      @@skylined5534 Actually, BBC North East have called the makers of this PIF up. They want their 1981 theme for Look North back!

    The subsequent ILR closedown sequences were never as good as this...but I suppose they had to remake it each time a new station came on air in the region! Interesting to see these space-age promo graphics...which continued into 1984 with a similar green and pink version with Vangelis-style music.

    fantastic. i remember a funny billy connoly sketch when he said he whould love to do 1 of those close downs on television and say "well its goodnight from all of us at stv, dont forget to lock all your doors and windows cos you never know who is creeping about outside, for gods sake dont look behind you"

    I think they should rerun the gun safety advert in today's broadcasting, just in case any crazy gun-loving Americans start moving to England and make up for 60% of the British population.

    • @traeyboy529
      @traeyboy529 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe not all ITV regions actually played the British National Anthem. I think it was more to the north that it didn't happen but in the south, it did. Unlike the BBC who basically used it every single day from the starts of BBC One's colour transmissions up to late-1997, after the current BBC logo was introduced.
