In Brazil (in a community descended fr0m an old settlement of runaway slaves), there is the jogo do pau, which inherits the name of Portuguese art (and some influences), but in general it is more like this Kalinda. They must have common roots.
In the past it was linked to capoeira, but today it is almost forgotten.
you can check it out in the videos::

Interesting Psychological Battle in the Beginning of the sequence....
I think these fellows could do with some Proper modern Protective gear and really let their Art develop; they already have two Solidly Proper Safety Marshals at hand to:- "Mind-the-Castle"!
Some written Rules and Cricket style/type PPE......Hey; there could be some:- "REAL" Talent, here.....
And a Good Channel for Young Fellows to let off steam!
    Very interesting Culture too......👍👍👍

Weird. There's a lot of standing around and dancing, and very little fighting. Why do they throw only blow, then separate?

Please, which kalinda's African root specifically? Maybe she has come to Brazil, see this Brazilian's "jogo do pau", which seems to be only derived from the European version

Jogo Do Pau originated in Portugal, which is how it got to Brazil. What I've seen of the Portugese version is a bit different than this and quite powerful.
