    Great finale in the sunflower field. A tremendous amount of “brilliance” going on. What miraculous work the bees do....(and you and your family!....and Carrie and the gang too!).

    Thanks for the update! They are definitely ROCKIN'! I am added another super on one of my hives today too! I LOVE your sunflower field full of bees! So beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I really enjoy the insight into the commercial side!

    180 acres of sunflowers. That's great. Great video like always. Bees like clover and they say they like goldenrod and goldenrod here is right out in full bloom but no bees on any of it. But they are still bringing in pollen and nector. I'm going on vacation this week and bought more boxes to put on my hives to give them room. Where I'm going I dont get cell service and no internet so I'm going to have to binge watch your videos when I get back.

    Thank you for all the good information. I know this video is a little older, but could you please explain the hive set up you are using. I see what looks like three 5s with deep 10s on top and then 3, 5 frame lids? Is that correct? Is there a queen in each nuc?
    Thank you

    Its probably the sunflower fields nearby where you are still getting nectar from. In my garden the sunflowers are just barely getting all the bees from all around too.

    Hey Ian, I built some 6s and wanna try your technique next season. I still dont understand how 6 frames are enough for a queen laying continuously? Where the pollens are stored? We dont have a continuous pollen flow here. So I built some double stacked 6s. 12 frames for each queen x 3 = 36 frames for brood area. I'm very interested in multiple queen hives, coz I can harvest spring honey. I'm sure you've heard of Ivan Vener!

    When you pull off the honey boxes do all or most of the bees fly off back to their hive? Do you have to wait for them to escape several hours? I'm new to bees and your operation is huge and impressive. WOW!!

    Same here in N. Idaho. I haven't seen a nectar flow like this in a long time. It's been wet this season BUT mild temps have kept the flowers blooming twice as long, and the bees still able to fly. We still have the linden, alfalfa, and knapweed flow to look forward to. Manage your hives people or they'll swarm.

    I’m a noob backyard beekeeper, so sorry for the ignorance, I have been searching your video’s and can’t find where or if you talk about 3 nuc’s sharing 2nd 3rd... boxes. I’ve seen you combine hives with newspaper between boxes to slow them down for a successful merge, but 3 boxes, I assume 3 queens? How does that work? Did I miss a video where you explain it?

  • @greenmachineman7

    Hi!
    If I understand correctly, 3 separate families work below, then they work on a mother grid and a common honeycomb. Isn't this a problem for bees? Would you describe the essence of this system in a few sentences? Thanks

    • @aCanadianBeekeepersBlog
      @aCanadianBeekeepersBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s all about allowing the bees to mingle, but keep the queens apart

    • @janosjegyinak2357
      @janosjegyinak2357 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And isn't that a problem for families? and how long can they be honeyed in this way? must they be escaped back before or before the end of full wear? What's more, so that on average more honey can be produced with them?

    I presume it is used for sunflower oil and then silage?

    • @russellkoopman3004
      @russellkoopman3004 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most farmers raise flowers for seed or oil in the US and Canada. Not sure why we don't. I guess we just use corn for silage.

    • @deannelson9565
      @deannelson9565 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sunflowers are very very dead when we take them so silage would not be an option. Sunflower are one of the most beautiful crops when alive and one of the ugliest when dead.

    Algún hispanohablante que me pueda explicar como hacen para trabajar de forma común a varias colmenas en las mismas alzas sin que maten las reinas de las otras colonias, o incluso entre las mismas abejas? Será por el bestial flujo de néctar? Que no se preocupan de esto? O tal vez por la raza de las abejas? Si alguien me puede dar una respuesta estaría agradecido, me parece un sistema impresionante por su productividad y por la propia evolución que deben de tener las colmenas. Un trabajo impresionante. Amaizing. Thank you.

      @onelove I see it differently. Pesticides, innovations, plant breeding, etc. have resulted in an abundance of food. Today, even in Africa and many parts of India obesity is the problem. Fifty years ago, millions died from food shortages.
      In all parts of the world, except a few, people are living longer and healthier lives. Peace

    • @rajbeekie7124
      @rajbeekie7124 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @onelove I love your engagement. If it weren't for pesticides, medicine, etc. the world would be a fraction of the population we have today. 100 years ago a ripe old age was in your 50s. Back then, life was tough. I don't know about you, I love modern life even when we have to use pesticides, etc. It is all a trade-off.
      As it relates to nature we as humans cannot hurt, destroy, or make nature better. Nature is a force beyond human comprehension and it always wins.
