What an amazing dog! (and video) I am a new dog owner, and we just took delivery of Max, an eight-week old German Shepard. He is now nine-weeks old; we have him a week. I was doing some research to see how best to stop him play-biting on my hand too hard. Now, I realise your video is the opposite of that but shows what we'd like him to do when it eventually comes to security, so we'd love to get your DVD and set him on this process as soon as possible. How do we get the DVD?
I absolutely love Rush!! I just ordered the Puppy Bite Work dvd and can’t wait till it arrives!! My 8 week old Malinois is a trick and obedience machine so I’m really looking forward to starting his bite work the best possible way. I love all these videos and seem to pick new things up from them every time I go back and re watch them. Thank you all for sharing your endless knowledge with all of us, and making the lessons so easy to follow and always explaining what and why your doing certain things and their purpose in the dog’s over all training 🙏👏🐶👌👏
Hello! Before I purchase, I am wondering if it includes how to keep puppies (specifically a malinois) from play biting our toes, fingers etc? Thank you
really wich i could get into dog sport in KY but hard to find something thats not a closed door type of training or less than 4 hours away....i love your videos and find it hard to do by my self.. the only knowledge i have is from your alsome vids....i have a german shepherd with a decent pedigree..
Xander He explains this more in the video on demand :) For puppies really young, focusing on getting the proper grip and placement is more important than the out and frequently they let the puppy just have the pillow/tug/sleeve :)
"Out" becomes the reward, and hence when the word is given the dog learns that its task is completed. That behaviour is rewarded and once the dog learns that, it wants to hear the word out, just the opposite of when the dog is younger and the pad/toy is given as the reward.
So, I’m going to be training my own Doberman in person protection. To ensure I have this all down, can you make sure I’m correct? You start with a soft tug, work into the hard tug, then a bite wedge, then teach that it’s okay to bite the sleeve, then have him latch onto the sleeve? I’ve seen some people start with a toy and jump straight into biting with a sleeve.

Guro Para Sa Bayan did you ever get it down packed. I had the same question how would I teach them it’s okay to bite when told to but not to bite me when it’s playing
I have a malinois pup you have to repeat a lot, both in positive reinforcement and reprimand, they are difficult because they are high drive but since they are very intelligent they will eventually tell the difference but you have to train a lot and be patient
great job, he definately turned out into a top dog! have to say a couple of things on the light side, 1/ snazzy tights dude, any reason you chose a pattern instead of just black? lol, and in the outdoor scene, boy didnt he know just the spots to bite that would hurt the most! lol, thank god for the bite suits hey! :p
It's hard to tell exactly what harness the puppy in this video is wearing but this is the one we recommend to people with new and growing puppies. leerburg.com/1123.htm
Would you say this is basically applicable to all breeds within a certain age range? I am about to bring home a johnson american (when he's 8 weeks) and i want to train him to respond properly to this kind of training.

Matt Westmacott, belgians were born as defense dogs and they feel the bite istinct. To teach them to bite at comand let the owner to control the dog's istinct, avoiding any possibly problem. Belgians love to bite, by the way, they have much fun. :-)
Everyone let me ask this. If I keep training the dog, I will always hear the screaming and whip and attack. So if the dog is bad luck, I usually use a small stick to instruct the dog. If the dog hears the whip, will it rush in and attack its owner? I thank you all very much.
When people have specific training questions we recommend that they go to our website and post those questions in the ASK CINDY on the front page of leerburg.com . Cindy has been training dogs since she was a teenager and has competed in several dog sports at a regional and national level. She was also a vet tech and owned a boarding/training and grooming business for many years as well as breeding working Dobermans and Belgian Malinois under the kennel name Kaiserhaus. Questions posted to ASK CINDY are answered almost every day. They are also recorded in our systems if a dog owner has additional questions Cindy will review the previous Q&As and this helps her give better feedback and assistance. leerburg.com/newcontact.php
Can you train a 2 year old dog for ipo? Or is that too late? I'm thinking it's fine but I'm not for sure also do u know where I can find a good temperment test for ipo?
Would be hard but it can be done if the dog has the temperament and drive for the work. Start with teaching markers: then food work; then tug work; then the training in our DVD on teaching bite work without a decoy (a Michael Ellis DVD) etc etc etc. If you have more questions go to our web site and ask them in the ASK CINDY part on the main Leerburg.com page
That rattle stick thing is the perfect noise to entice the dog. So when you’re out running trails with your dog, and he hears that sound. You will look over and your dog will be envenomated by a rattlesnake. 😃
Owning an attack dog is like having a loaded gun in your pocket....it can go off at anytime and hurt somebody...it is a huge responsibility ....and you better have good liability insurance
All being said michael is a great trainer..and great person worthy of respect..but its the idiot people who own these dogs that put us all in danger...
A regular everyday person training a dog to bite things is an idiot program..and for what?..in the end thes dogs become confused and end up attacking a passerby and then DOG DADDY IS CALLED IN TO CHOKE OUT THE DOG..a very fearfull and torture procedure that only leaves the dog more confused ,and now timid ,and hiding from the world where he has to live with more human idiots
Why do humans want to see aggression and violence in their dogs?? These dogs are not going to war...a regular everyday dog will be stuck in an apartment all day

Amazing dog!
I understand and see how they train the dogs to bite and not let up but how do you make it clear to them to not just bite anyone that makes noise?
I absolutely love Rush!! I just ordered the Puppy Bite Work dvd and can’t wait till it arrives!! Hello! Before I purchase, I am wondering if it includes how to keep puppies (specifically a malinois) from play biting our toes, fingers etc? Thank you
Love the ZEPPELIN in the background

Love Michael Ellis’s training philosophy, have watched him for years. However those pants are killing me 😂
those pants tho O_o
Oh good, I'm not the only one.
This fall I'll be getting an APBT x American bulldog pup. Would the same type of training be suitable for the bull breeds?
How often should I train my puppy like this? Everyday? How many minutes each time?
i want our dogs in law enforcement to be this disciplined.
i bought you 'How To Deal with Dominant and Aggressive Dogs' very helpful
Brilliant!
Amazing bite work 😍😩
I see how you want them to attack but how does the "out" get incorperated
Xander He explains this more in the video on demand :)

Start by working with a trainer, this type of training should not be done by a someone who does not know how to do it
What is the purpose of the noise overload?
Have them able to work irregardless of the distraction/environment
Nice pants dude

I wonder if Rush is still alive. If yes. How is he doing?
He is and he is enjoying retired life :)
I like the Rage Against the Machine playing in the background.
Hey Michael great training as always question what type of harness are you using for the puppy and were can i get one thank you in advance.
It's hard to tell exactly what harness the puppy in this video is wearing but this is the one we recommend to people with new and growing puppies. leerburg.com/1123.htm
Whats the purpose of the stick to hit the dog when doing this Shutzund?
if you have someone fighting your dog and hitting him, he wont back off
Michael also uses the noise of the stick to condition the sound to bite work so the dog gets into higher drive when he hears the noise.
Would you say this is basically applicable to all breeds within a certain age range? I am about to bring home a johnson american (when he's 8 weeks) and i want to train him to respond properly to this kind of training.

Not NOT teach them how to bite on command and let go on command is irresponsible. They will bite anything that moves and not know better.. :-)
Is a year old too late to start
Nope. Even in psa the dog has to be atleast 14 months old.
Why does the dog only bite legs-
what sup with the running in circle???
@homebrewgod they wear tights so the puppy or dogs want be distracted by pants flowing around and grab hold

Good video. Leerburg's advice is top notch.

6:16 "neurotic to the bone no doubt about it"
All being said michael is a great trainer..and great person worthy of respect..but its the idiot people who own these dogs that put us all in danger...
I wait for the adult teeth.

An awesome trainer but terrible at choosing a wardrobe. Dam bro please don’t wear those pants anymore.
