I like how he was looking for the treat after Michael said, “Yes” in his explanation. Michael’s puppy course at Leerburg is SO beneficial, and is a super primer for raising dogs in an operant mode (so they learn faster, with more mutual energy).

I love how quickly this dog is learning. Really proves that Michael Ellis’ methods work!

Great principles. It can be harder to 'explain this' to dogs that are not food or toy/play motivated.
Voice inflection/petting can be used if properly timed as well.

Please include how long we should be working the dogs/puppies each day. I have a 3 month old puppy and I don't want to over do it. She is a willing learner. She does sit, down and a stay for 5 min. She is resisting the leash. She will do it for 5 or 10 min then she wants to quit. Is it ok to end training for this session and then repeat later in the afternoon or evening? Or just wait for the next day? A little explanation on how long a training session with beginners would be helpful. I do love your method of training. I have to alternate between treats and toys or the pup seems to get bore. Is this OK?

Lisa Wheeler never more than 10-15 minutes per training session, even that can be a lot

Lisa Wheeler ... Quality of training (effectiveness) is more important by far than duration. 2-3 min/period is fine for a puppy, just do it several times a day. Quit before the pup loses interest ... your job is to be interesting and effective.

Reminds me of Jordan Peterson's rule about not letting your children do things that make you dislike them. Don't let your dog do things that make you dislike them.

I taught my Border Collie to take/hold in the way that Michael shows in the little clip with the Lab in this video (gently holding the mouth closed on the item). I did it just to prove to my psychotic bird dog training boss (who just loooooooved to burn dogs with a shock collar on high intensity level) that it could be done without hurting the dog. Taught her in about 5 minutes. Thank God I don't work for that psycho anymore! It's too bad people are still paying him to "train" their dogs (ie. let them sit in a kennel for months with no training, then take them out a week prior to the owner showing up, and torturing them with a shock collar until they piss themselves). It's too bad more bird dog trainers don't use humane methods. They're so behind the times when it comes to the science and psychology of dog training. It's pretty sad.

What kind of shit collar is she using that burns the dog's neck? sounds like someone with not a clue on how to use an E-collar.
