"The original script became one of several I wrote but never produced, this was very typical for me in 2018 when I was falling in love with screenwriting and would write pretty much any idea for a script that I thought was worth pursuing even if I didn’t choose to put my money and time into getting it made. I thought of my scripts as short stories and was content having a few friends read them and knowing that they were part of my body of work. But Expanding was always one of my favorite ideas that visually and thematically represented who I am and what I’m interested in as a filmmaker; an emotionally intense event that triggers an internal transformation, portraying a specific type of person and place in America, focusing in on a highly dramatic situation in a mundane and ordinary environment, occupying a genre, coming-of-age, but not delivering on audience expectations, etc."

I knew someone like this when i was a kid. He did the same thing, asking someone (me, his friend) to choke him. It wasn’t until later that i found out he was struggling with his sexual identity and was aroused by it. Another part of this fetish is he felt guilty about his feelings and felt he needed to punish himself. Choking was his choice but he didn’t want to be choked to death. It’s the fear that became addicting.
Oh i forgot to add, my friend didn’t offer me money. It seemed like a joke at the time.

Cela a peut-être un lien ? un copain (je suis né en 50) voulait ressentir sans doute quelque chose qu´un psy lgbtqia etc pourrait analyser quand il demandait qu´on le pénètre en "gorge profonde" à la limite de l´étouffement... Par la suite il a vécu en couple, gay, il a adopté aidé à l´époque par relations de travail.

I'm seeing this in two different ways:
1) He's suicidal and he wants some idea of what it might feel like if he hung himself; which wouldn't come close to the real experience. Also, the fact that he scratched his name off of the sign up sheet for the trip to Europe might infer that he doesn't plan on being around much longer.
2) The drug dealer is HOT. Sexy as Hell. He didn't choose anyone ugly to choke him. And I felt some sexual tension immenatimg from both of them.
I'd love to see a Part 2 & 3 ...

They both are too good
The social psychology theory on observed social behaviors in this theater fits with locus of control issues, and resolving the internal cognitive dissonance by Kelly's Exchange Theory. The "alpha" has the self image "I'm cool" as he has his reputation of not being a weak emotional "Artsy" guy dealing his weed, and the "consumer" has the self image "I can afford to pay for it." Each will resolve their self-image social meaning by the exchange. The one says, "but I'm getting $200 so even though this is strange inconsistent with my very cool self, I can agree considering no one is physically getting a mark or any obvious hurts, and I'm getting $200." The other denies the hostile feeling questions advising he watches too much strange porn, but also turns to emphasis he will raise the price from $40 to $200, and that amount of money in a way validates him being indication he has the means to pay such an amount for such a simple yet also socially strange personal aggressive intimacy momentary thing. Each walks away with their rationalization of what was exchanged for the unusual moment shared. Yet the moment shared remains part of their social reality. Because it is clearly about the loss of control, which the "consumer" is experiencing and motivates him to seek being chocked by the obviously attractive other young man, the real social behavior model issue is that this experience only deepens awareness of the lack of ability to resolve and control desire for intimacy from a chosen other male peer. His lack of resolution shows in the next scene when he first writes his subscription to the Art History field trip seeing the "Alpha" is named to be attending on that event, then cognitive dissonance overtakes his expression and he scribbles out his name on the listing form on the wall. He walks away in defeat unresolved concerning his social behavior model of himself as compared to his inherent emotional responses in social situations. They both in some measure damaged their social behavior model they try to keep of themselves, as the presence in classroom after that event is to totally avoid eye contact or relaxed social presence around each other. It seems most likely in this one incident the boy who took the $200 actually compromised his own social behavior model the most, because "I'm cool" doesn't really fit well with rationalizing taking $200 to agree to choke someone's neck for a moment. Young adults collide with each other as they experiment all the time. It's rather an existential meaning, not greatly moralistic in any particular way. It does remind of the idea there should be programs of peer counseling support groups for young adults of all sexual orientations, so they have a way to discuss and process what they go through along their journey.

His demeanor and body language suggests to me depression. He chose the drug dealer classmate because he believed that guy will do anything for money. I don't think this was a kink. I'd group him in with people who cut themselves. Teens who engage in self harm as a coping mechanism for anxiety or depression. Physically speaking, it's ALMOST impossible to really choke ourselfs. The brian sends a signal of self preservation. Thats why he had to have someone else do it.

He really wanted him the feel of being dominated and chocked, weirdly enough, not in a sexual manner, just the grip on his neck, certain people can feel a lot of a certain type of pleasure and release, that isn't related to a specific sexual thrill, it's the feel of the action.Have you ever asked yourself why some people do extreme sports even though they can be really hurt at any given moment in which they are practicing it?
There's tons of other stimulus responses that people have that are way less extreme than this.
‘Erotic asphyxiation’ is a kink or fetish that I believe exists primarily in the BDSM community. The person being choked becomes aroused. The recipient here may be gay and have feelings for the active person he recruited, or may simply be curious about the phenomenon of EA.

Personally I would have really liked to have seen a part 2 and a 3 to this short film to see what is going through this kid's mind and what becomes of him and his drug dealing friend!!!! I know someone that's just like this in a way and someone that is just like his drug dealing friend also and they are both friends with each other in sort of the same scenario!!!!!

Never understood this type of kink.
With certain people, being put in this situation, their brain will release certain types of hormones that correlate to the response to danger and pain that can feel pleasurable.These people are more likely to respond positively to dangerous situations and certain other pain related kinks.

"kink" is a sexual term..."fetish" would be more appropriate as it can be sexual or non-sexual and no one knows if the character was interested in this for sexual reasons.
