Know this is an old comment, but aliens fall into the science fiction category…unless they’re proven to be real, then I guess it would be Science non fiction? Or just Science maybe? 😅
@@TisGrym No.Aliens as phenomenon is not science fiction. But what we usually mean under aliens - yes. We and all life at earth is proof that life can exist in our universe.Universe according to scientists(all this and other you can google) have diameter in 93 billion light years and visible is 28 billion ly .Approximate number of galaxies in visible universe is from 170 bilion to 2 trillion. If we do calculations of volumes by 4/3 x pi x r^3 we get that visible universe have 36.641 times smaller volume than observable. So approximate number of galxies in Universe from 6.229 trillion to 73.283 trillion.Wiki says galaxies have in average 100 mil galaxies, yes, not best source but other options - we don't know for sure.So i will pick 50 million, plus some of strs definitely haven't habitable planets like A-O types, this don't change result by much. Each star system have in average 10 planets but this number based on incomplete information and contains gas giants so i take 5, not including rogue planets by obvious reasons. As result with raw calculations we get that Universe might have from 1.55x10^21 to 1.83x10^22 planets and this is HUGE number. Is pretty unlikely that there is no other alien life besides us. But what we are considering "alien life"?Answer is any not terrestial life from simpliest microbes to more advanced organisms like plants , animals and finally sentient beings. All this have different odds , mircobes have highest and sentient beings - lowest. All of this we certainly know is possible having Earth and us as example, so no restrictions from universe laws of physics. Finally reached main point. We know that nothing can travel faster the light besides space-time.We know it for sure because all objects further 14 billion ly is moving faster than light relatively to us.But we and them moving at least half of ftl because space-time expanding in both directions, of course not entirely half this can be like 0.7 +0.3 too.But on 28billion ly distance both objects for sure moving at ftl relatively to each other. This concept exploited by warp drive.Exist many doubts in his possibility because requiremnts to make space-time distortion around certain area to travel at ftl.So warp drive is sci-fi for now.And ftl travel between stars too. So alien civilisation that can reach ftl speed is science fiction. But aliens as phenomenon, even sentient ones rather not a fiction, they just extremely rare.
@@TisGrym Well... Statistically, aliens kind of have to be real, in an infinite universe it's ridiculous to assume that no life-bearing planets exist. Even if it's just some bacteria.
Aside from fitting in really nicely to this theory, the bit about the Aliens running the same operating system as Dib was probably a dig at movies like Independence Day where the humans hack advanced alien tech with a mid 90s laptop
@@hasturthekinginyellow5003 huh, I seem to have forgotten that plot point. I know that's the basic idea in the first Transformers movie, but again I assumed it was done to make sure that people didn't say "that's the same plot hole/ convenience from ID4" when the Autobots and Decpticons spoke english and used human tech.
I also like to think that Zim KNOWS that Membrane is irken. In one of the episodes, Dib comes home to the two of them having tea or something while Zim waited for Dib. Zim would also absolutely recognize the irken technology Membrane uses. I think they have an understanding of some sort, maybe even a competition or bet. I just like the idea of the two of them having a mutual understanding and respect thing going on.
I think during the movie Zim and professor membrane were working together to take over the world and get into the path of the irkin armada and that membrane going to space prison was to make it more convincing for everyone else that Zim has taken over peace day and was not working with membrane
I feel like Zim not only isn't smart enough for that he a) wouldn't be able to resist gloating about it to Dib and b) wouldn't be able to handle the knowledge of a competitor without completely freaking out. Zim at his core is childish, overzealous, and highly reactive. He's had his clever moments, but they're far and in between
From what I remember, Dib and maybe Gaz were confirmed as clones of Membrane, but I think there's good evidence that Membrane is a potentially banished Irken. In which case, yes I guess that means that Dib would be an alien clone. And it makes sense that Membrane would be so into trying to convince Dib that aliens aren't real, both to keep his cover best he can, and potentially because he isn't ready to let the kids know about their clone status. It would be crazy enough to hear that you're a clone, much less an alien clone.
* Invader Zim pitch meeting * Nickelodeon producer: Im not really liking the cartoon idea. What other work have you done Mr. Vasquez? Vasquez: Well... I made a small comic book series a few years ago. Nickelodeon producer: Is that so? What was it about? Vasquez: Nothing major, it was about a homicidal maniac, and how overly depressed he was. Nickelodeon producer: You're hired!
Producer: Don't you think it'll be difficult to get kids to watch a show with such horrifying scenes and ideas? Screenwriter: Actually it'll be super easy. Barely an inconvenience
Omg I never actually watched invader Zim but whenever I saw pics from it I would think "that reminds me so much of Johnny the homicidal maniac a lot" and now my mind is blown
JTHM is my absolute fave. I have every copy of the comic I could get my hands on and the directors cut. Also, Happy Noodle Boy is iconic. "I am TESTICLESE God of rash covered scotums!". Shouldn't be funny, is.
Even if Membrane was a irken, in the movie finally it's shown both his legs and arms are robotic. So I doubt he was a 'tallest'. More likely he was really short so no one paid attention to him and his genius. So he went to earth, made a mech suit to fit in. And his peace day stunt was to show up the tallest for ignoring him.
There's this line in one of the comics, when GIR mentions another Irken that came to Earth once. It's heavily implied that this Irken died somehow while on Earth, Zim himself even seems to mourn him. Now, this could be a throwaway joke about Zim's selective memory, but after seeing this video it makes more sense. It's a stretch, I know, but I think this could've been Membrane. It doesn't look like him, but that could easily be his true form, and the Membrane we see is in disguise. Another I'd like to mention, is that if I remember correctly, Tak's disguise had ears and a nose. Zim's doesn't since it's part of the plot for him to have a terrible disguise. If Membrane's technology is so advanced, why couldn't he get rid of some of the only good evidence that he's an alien? It's clear he left Irk long before Zim and Tak did, so maybe Irken technology wasn't as advanced back then. It really depends on when he left, and the history of Irk. Both of those aren't talked about much in the series, movie, or comics.
How about having that Irken being Dib's grandfather or great grandfather? Just so Dib would be part human and actually have had a mother and relatives.
Honestly, I do think membrane and Dib are aliens, but not Gaz. She’s an android! Think about it: She Dosent obey anyone but membrane. When she got wet when Dib splashed water on her and Zim, she looked like it hurt her. Robots are affected by water. Why do you think he wanted Dib to go with her to the mall? He didn’t want her to get broken. She protects herself, all the time. There was one episode where she was on the elevator, and was trying to get the GS2 from Iggins, and SMASHED AND GLITCHED THE ELEVATOR FROM ONE PUNCH. BUT HEY, THATS JUST A THEORY A FILM THEORY
What about that episode where Zim controls Dib's arm nerve? Dib says he doesn't have one, but Zim knows about it, almost like he knows more about Dib's anatomy than Dib himself does...
I used to wonder why Dib was so obsessed with Zim, he must be an alien too and can recognize Zim as a counterpart. But then I saw the Halloween episode and decided the teacher was the only true alien there.
Something I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned is the “Arm control nerve” in Dib’s stomach as seen in “NanoZim”. Even Dib points out how that doesn’t exist in humans. This would also explain how Zim, an alien creature who doesn’t understand much of Earth, would know exactly where to find it.
@@wehtawnikrap I mean, Zim, an idiot, was capable of creating methods of protecting himself from rain water (albeit idiotic and flawed means that didn't go anywhere), and he hadn't been on Earth for even a year, yet Membrane has been there significantly longer, and is intelligent and capable, despite having access to more primitive tech than Zim's. It'd stand to reason that he'd likely find a way to protect his clones (and hopefully himself) from something as common and devastating to Irkans as rain water.
There are Irkens in the middle ground heightwise. The soldiers on the Irken Mothership are medium height. The ones that work for the Tallest are between the tallest and normal Irken height.
@@chainsawz1312 well in a unmade episode the trial there was another tallest who zim killed some theorize the tallest where made to look tall to hide the fact that the tallest where all dying as they where the first ones to clone but as they continued to clone the irkins got shorter it's just a theory thou
Dibs always accusing Zim of being an alien, but what about their teacher Mrs. Bitters? She slithers and moves around in ways impossible for a human, makes cicada noises, has to wear a cloak in the sunlight, among some other inhuman things I’m probably forgetting.
Gaz also knows about aliens and knows Zim is an alien. She mentions it in the Gaz, taster of pork episode, “Yeah, Zims an alien, why should I care?” She doesn’t care because Zim is to dumb to actually take over earth
The last thing that fits just fine into this puzzle is found on the comics. On issue #12, at the end there’s a poem titled invasion, in which Dib wanders around the streets, apparently after the alien invasion arrived. Then, he finds Gaz, but when he gets close to her he realized she is an alien, and more irkens start to crawl out of the shadows, and surround him, and then Zim appears and reveals that Dib was an alien all along. Dib touches his face and realizes it was actually a mask, takes it of and confirms what Zim said.
@@benmcauley8872 I don’t know, but I suppose they are. Some stuff that happens in the comics was referenced in Enter the Florpus, in fact most of the plot of that movie was from a comic
I always liked to think that the humans around Dib were stylized to represent how he felt about them. So to me his father looked "alien" because to Dib it feels like he is. Like he can't connect to him because he acts so distant to him almost speaking another language while they talk. But your theory is amazing. Zim looked clearly alien to Dib because that is what he saw and felt. But clearly anyone else was not able to see it. To them Dib was the more weird and alien than Zim. Ever since I saw Enter the Florpus on Netflix you can bet I was thinking "theory, theory, theory!" I have been wanting more theories and IZ is a great start to new ones that branch off from each other!
I actually agree with this theory- as well as the fact that, from what I’ve seen, nearly EVERY alien does the thing where their voice raises- when tallest red says : “You- SAVE THE DONUTTSSSS” To Tallest purple- his voice does randomly raise, so it seems like a natural speech pattern for aliens.
7:00 The scene afterwards was my favorite of the series, he steps into a stall and screams "LEAVE NO EVIDENCE!" Then a kid runs out and watches the bathroom stall explode into fire, and stands there in shock.
If his father is indeed an alien taking over the world, it may actually be out of kindness that he doesn't tell dip since it would completely destroy him

Kind of like when Zim in the NanoZim episode where he was controlling Dibs arms with the arm control nerve in his belly. Zim also seemed to know where to go like he knew the entire anatomy, but didn’t think twice about it.
Another interesting "coincidence" that I'm surprised Mat didn't mention: Zim is a three letter name. Who else do we know with three letter names? Gaz and Dib.
Technically not - Dib fits, but "Gaz" is short for "Gazlene" - a play on Gasoline to reference her volatile nature. That said, it's not like Irkens all have three-letter names (see Tallests Miyuki and Spork from the unproduced "The Trial"; or invaders like Skoodge, Skutch, and Larb).
This video might be one of my favorites. I've known about Dib being a clone for a few years now, but I always wrote it off as just another one of professor Membrane's experiments. Membrane being an exiled Irken would put it into an entirely different context since that's just how Irken children are made.
Rewatching this again and I really am thinking Membrane is Zim but a future version of him, hence why he is trying to convince others that aliens don't exist. That way his (Membrane's) present plays out the way that currently exists.
Kinda hard to say when Membrane has memories of being a small child, Zim would notice any alien organs inside Dib, also a lot of people talk that way in the show showing its just a running gag, Dib eats the food, plays in rain, Membrane is just the dad that doesn't pay attention to what his kids say trope
We can actually explain those problems away with Mat’s theory. That was just a flashback to his first days on Earth before he understood Santa or other human cultural norms. He concocted further disguises to provide the illusion of growing up, to ensure that he blends in. Heck, that’s probably the reason Dib and Gaz are there in the first place he probably abducted some extremely young children, modified them to look similar enough to himself and then uses them as part of his cover.
@@kyestar88 Really? 'Cause, if he said there were no aliens intelligent enough to get to Earth, then he'd probably met the Irkans. Zim's rampant incompetence isn't actually unusual for his species.
At 10:17 you said that Professor Membrane might be taller than the Tallest which is why they sent him to Earth, but earlier at 5:43 you said he's been dressed that way since he was a child. So that part kind of confuses me, seems like a little contradiction to the theory. Lol But cool video theory, regardless!
I would've loved it if they kept the series going and they actually showed this twist. Dib would've blown his top if he found out the whole time he and his family were actual aliens. 😂
I haven't watched much of Invader Zim but that could be. I think Membrane could be spying on & stealing tech from the Irken to get in a position of power on Earth and denies their existence to avoid being found out and losing his technological advantage. Those wouldn't explain the weird facial features however unless they're a strange byproduct of it's use.
I mean it looks Zim was born inside of a vat and the only thing that was a parent to him was metalic hand so i don't think the irkens have a mom and a dad
Zim: "You never learned the truth about your father!" Dib: "I learned enough, I know I am a clone!" Zim: "No, Dib, I am YOUR FATHER!" Dib: "Well that's just wrong." Zim: "DON'T INTERRUPT ME! I was going to say I am your father's species. He's an Irken, just like me!"
wait............. what if........ @@satoukazuma4837 zim is not that calm and probably won't ever be and why would he clone dib instead of just not having the clone so he can take over the world

@@justsomebody9990 Wait, doesn't it? Hence him saying that line as a cheeky remark towards Independence Day. Or am I missing something? That said, I prefer the explanation in the video :P
I always had a theory about the Tallest that they arent actually tall. They're always hovering, and Idk about you but their limbs and bodies look to me like they've been augmented. Like they used levitation devices and cybernetics to make themselves seem taller. That or being that tall for Irkens causes physical disabilities, their leg muscles too weak to support that much mass.
He has done exactly what an invader should do, he perfectly blended in with the planets native inhabitants, even to the point they think he has children. It makes perfect sense for him to clone himself if there are no other Irken on Earth for him to reproduce, yet Dib and Gaz will still be biologically related to him. While simultaneously throwing Dib under the bus, he was going to show them off to society before he started the Perpetual Energy Generator, saying "I'd like to introduce you all to my children" at the very start of his speech. I feel I should mention in the comics, there's a poem that details how Zim conquers the Earth and reveals that Dib has been "one of us all along" before he rips his skin off and shows that he's Irken underneath. Maybe just a nightmare, but possibly foreshadowing?
Makes me wonder if the professor wasn't genetically altered to take over Earth but then wound up being taller than the tallest so instead of conquering Earth he was banished to Earth instead.
That's a great theory, actually. That would explain why he has human skin (it seems?) and why his children have human eyes. If they were genetically altered to fit in with humans...
Maybe because they realized how smart membrane was as a shorter irken and were afraid of his genius, so they sent him away to prevent him from overthrowing the tallest somehow
"Make sure to take them out of the can, or the explosion will destroy all human life" is exactly how it felt as kid when you're told not to put metal utensils in the microwave
If we act like this show has strong continuity and characters don't just die every episode, then I have an alternative to this theory that doesn't rely on believing that Dib is an alien. Dib says that he has "I have vague memories of being taken on board an alien ship as a baby." But if he's a clone of membrane with the intelligence to boot, then what's to say that he doesn't have similar memories? Membrane picks up alien mannerisms, is hyper intelligent, and refuses to believe in the supernatural even when it's right in front of him because of a single thing called trauma. In Enter The Florpus, he says, "How could anything this horrifying, plausible be real?" At the end of the episode, Mopiness Of Doom Membrane asks himself where he went wrong. He appears to be an alien because he was experimented on rather than being one. His actions, like embarrassing Dib on live TV and trying to get him to give up on paranormal investigations, are partly out of not wanting to remember his painful past and wanting to keep his kids safe from events like Enter The Florpus and Dark Harvest. Or we're just overthinking kids shows as always.

th-cam.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/w-d-xo.html.
I always thought that was just a known fact haha
It's also pretty clear throughout the show that The Tallest very much so want to remain in power and would probably do anything to stay in power, so killing actually taller peeps seems plausible
I also remember reading something about how when they become one of the Tallest, they have to cut off their thumbs?
That does make sense in the theory's context, since membrain is very obviously a cyborg
I like how prof membrane says he doesn't believe in the paranormal, but aliens aren't really paranormal. If anything they're more science than anything
Especially given how demons, which are paranormal, are shown to be real.
But they aren't normal and I need to find stuff for the definition

I like your idea
I think during the movie Zim and professor membrane were working together to take over the world and get into the path of the irkin armada and that membrane going to space prison was to make it more convincing for everyone else that Zim has taken over peace day and was not working with membrane

Vasquez: Nothing major, it was about a homicidal maniac, and how overly depressed he was.
Nickelodeon producer: You're hired!
Johnny the homicidal maniac was a good comic
Producer: Don't you think it'll be difficult to get kids to watch a show with such horrifying scenes and ideas?
Screenwriter: Actually it'll be super easy. Barely an inconvenience
Funny enough, it was because of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac that Jhonen Vazquez got the job to begin with lol
Omg I never actually watched invader Zim but whenever I saw pics from it I would think "that reminds me so much of Johnny the homicidal maniac a lot" and now my mind is blown

Tallest aren’t actually tall they are in Robert armored exoskeleton
Dib is a clone
the tallest are clearly also short inside mechanical bodies. this just lines up with what we know.
Membrane's legs aren't robotic. He's wearing rocket boots and in Florpus, it's shown that he has bones in his legs but not his arms.

I’m so upset the show had gotten canceled, the plot twist would have been CRAZY- I wonder what the other episodes would have been
There's this line in one of the comics, when GIR mentions another Irken that came to Earth once.

Why do you think he wanted Dib to go with her to the mall? He didn’t want her to get broken.

Yeah, he probably just assumed humans would have one too, not realising Dib was an Irkan.

Membrane could have just spliced him and his kids DNA with human DNA to better blend in
We can actually explain those problems away with Mat’s theory. That was just a flashback to his first days on Earth before he understood Santa or other human cultural norms. He concocted further disguises to provide the illusion of growing up, to ensure that he blends in. Theory: Membrane made a deal with the aliens to keep them secret and they give him all of their knowledge

interesting
I wonder what dibs reaction would be
And steal his ears.
@@jarrenstarkey8541 And nose.
much better theory than the straws matt is grasping at here.
The irony of this theory would have been an amazing twist for the show! I wish the cartoon would've been continued. :(
yeah there was really lost potential tbh 😭😭😭
I mean technically it could continue, lots of shows were cancelled or ended for years but then either got rebooted or a sequel of some kind
@@CheshireEclipse Yeah but let's be real here
@@TheAdvertisement just tryna (tryna Autocorrected to tuna-) be positive XD
honestly glad enter the florpus exists, but isn't exactly what we lost :(
So Professor Membrane doesn’t want Dib exposing the truth about aliens because Dib would be exposing himself? 🤯
I would've loved it if they kept the series going and they actually showed this twist. Dib would've blown his top if he found out the whole time he and his family were actual aliens. 😂
There's Actually Alot Of I.Z Fanart Of Dib And Gaz Being Irkens
You can always read the comics. Iirc they're cannon
@@ghostprince4284Now I kind of want to see some of that fanart ngl (don't mind the fact that this comment is 3 years late)
Invader Zim needs to be renewed for a new season.
th-cam.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/w-d-xo.html
It got cancelled bro, sadly aint gonna happen
Vasquez hated working on the series.
Very much agreed
A final season, like Samurai Jack
I like more to imagine that Membrane is not an “alien invader” himself, but his parents or his ancestors WAS.
JP animation life maybe one irken made human-irken hybrid who has his own reproductive system?
So his ancestors fricked aliens?
That is true, we can’t say for sure that Membrane is or is not the first Irken sent to Earth
I *live for the fact that zim casually unbanishes himself, it is always very humorous everytime I go on an invader zim marathon once a year.
Zim: "You never learned the truth about your father!"
Dib: "I learned enough, I know I am a clone!"
Zim: "No, Dib, I am YOUR FATHER!"
Dib: "Well that's just wrong."
Zim: "DON'T INTERRUPT ME! I was going to say I am your father's species. He's an Irken, just like me!"
this needs to happen in the future show
wAIT thats hilarious
Perfect.
wait............. what if........ Zim fixed his "skin condition" traveled back in time conquered earth, his son is Dib(which explained the similarities of their names) Dib goes to school with zims young self, Dib figures it all out, Zim denies everything Dib is saying to keep the world under his control
@@satoukazuma4837 zim is not that calm and probably won't ever be and why would he clone dib instead of just not having the clone so he can take over the world
Something I also noticed is that during the realities colliding scene in the movie Dib was turned into an Irken at one point. So that could have been eluding to the idea!
It can run apps. Oh yea, it also can make a galactic stargate.

To be honest I think it was said that Dib is actually his father clone. But him being an alien could be interesting.
Yes!! It was going to be an episode I believe but the show got canceled or the episode was just scrap I’m unsure
Yeah, Matpat mentions that around 13:50
Maybe he spliced the clone with human dna.

I think Dib saying "I just hope the Irkens use the same operating system as I do" was more of a reference to Independence Day.
HEY u should watch my new ZADR animatic rough sketch! 💓💞💖💕THANK U SO MUCH!
That... Doesn't really make sense
that just don't make sense at all, please can you explain?
@@justsomebody9990 Wait, doesn't it?
In independence day, (never actually saw the movie, so apologies if I'm wrong) didn't they win by infecting the alien ship with a virus built on a human operating system, which doesn't make sense because there's almost no way they'd be compatible. Hence him saying that line as a cheeky remark towards Independence Day.
Or am I missing something?
That said, I prefer the explanation in the video :P
@@techyon9401 You're correct.
There writers did actually plan to explore this idea
12:07 "Not scientifically possible!" Said Prof. Membrane, clamly.
XD 😂

at the end of the movie, professed membrane says the reason why he was trying so hard to make dib think aliens don’t exist, was to protect him.

@SniperX Stop self advertising please :/
You will get hate
If they didn’t know what earth was tho, how would they know their features such as skin?
I’m confused why would the tallest send him away because he was tall but he has a memory of being short during Christmas?
That is...A good point.
Maybe because Matpat didn't watch the show
they g r o w
@@avocado5810 Not that high and also he would've gone to earth after he grew
In Enter The Florpus, he says, "How could anything this horrifying, plausible be real?"
At the end of the episode, Mopiness Of Doom Membrane asks himself where he went wrong.
