    This video reminds me of Gwydir forest, which I'm visiting again next year to explore further. I agree it is a challenge to find compositions in woodland and forest, but it's that which makes it all the more rewarding when you do find that location and photo that comes alive.

    • @SimonBaxterPhotography
      @SimonBaxterPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say I generally find woodland photography challenging, it's always been what I enjoy the most. However, a brand new location in lacklustre conditions can certainly be testing but always enjoyable. Good luck at Gwydir!

    I can see the decision not to upgrade to the A7Riv hasn't stopped all spending: that's a very serious tripod (Systematic Giant?) and head bundle. Good to see some colour in the water there, there's been proper rain, methinks, and good job subduing the fence details!

  • @valk-photography

      Mario Valkenborg. Beneden Givet ligt het enorme woud van Manise (foret Domaniale de Manise) met oude loofbomen. Het woud van Marchiennes, net over de grens in noord Frankrijk, is ook heel mooi, met oude bemoste bomen in een moeras.

    I'm currently in Snowdonia, I took ally photography gear and all I've done is snap about 6 photos on my phone. I managed to find an area of planted birch but with the bank of the river filled with old gnarly trees I do not yet know the name of to park at. It's a mobile dead zone, a farm steading about a mile in either direction and an owl as a companion in the evenings so solitude was guaranteed. This solitude was what I needed, I wanted to capture images but having no connection the outside world was such a relaxing and rejuvenating experience I chose to simply enjoy the few days I had there.
    At the end of the day I know the location, with some mist you would love it as singular gnarly trees dominate a river bank or the centre of a field but its o ly half a day's drive from me so my next wee excursion will be back here, I imagine spring with some mist and bluebells will a sight it behold

    • @SimonBaxterPhotography
      @SimonBaxterPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Hibon! Yes, it's very expensive but an investment into my practice that should hopefully last many years. It's rare that I need a polariser - I prefer the natural appearance of light in woodland.

    • @SimonBaxterPhotography
      @SimonBaxterPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say I said anything directly negative about the A7R4. I've used the A7R4 and it's a great camera but the resolution and the dynamic range in the R3 are already great. It didn't bother me when I gave the R4 back ;)

    • @huwmorgan51
      @huwmorgan51 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimonBaxterPhotography Fair enough. It's just the way you said that you wouldn't be buying it that it seemed to imply something wrong with the camera. I just sold my a7rIII and some left-over Canon glass to buy an a7RIV and I wondered if there was something you knew about the camera that was worrisome.
