  • Kawasaki have taken a retro approach with the W175 to stand out in the highly contested upto 200cc segment that is filed to the brim with sporty commuters! And the 2024 variant at Rs. 1.35L is 12k cheaper despite getting this new paint scheme and alloys compared to the spoke wheeled W175 launched last year. But is that enough to convince the Royal Enfield audience that they are targeting to give the W175 a shot? Sarge hops on to find out.

    Interesting bike. The 135kg weight seems to be good, not much higher than my CT100b.
    Need to ride and check the bike out. If the suspension is decent and the bike has decent low end tractability (for a solo rider) I might consider buying a bike like this as I anyways ride very slow.
    How did you find the bike's low end torque, especially while tackling gradients(if in case you did encounter any); does the bike need frequent gear changing?

    Tbh sarge, for 1.5L this is actually a more of a blank canvas. I've seen a lot of scramblers made out of small capacity bikes , and this bike actually has a knack for it! minimalistic design, less sensors and circuits to worry about. Just an old school old gen ride ... take this bike out for a spin in weekends ... go to neighboring towns , villages.. add duel purpose tires( if available) and explore surrounding wilderness... this may not built for long dist touring, but definitely for explorations!!! I'm actually looking for a second hand model.... i got few ideas !!!

    I definitely like its looks, that old school styling for a senior citizen like me, but then again I expected a more sportier performance from a 175 cc engine, but that's a big let down 😢. I remember in my younger days, way back in the 90s, a friend of mine had a Kawasaki KB100, which had a terrific 99 cc engine. That's how I got attracted to this Kawasaki brand. Glad to hear Bajaj is introducing Boxer 160 cc and Yamaha Rx 100 is also gearing up with a 200 - 250 cc engine.

    I never thought Sarge would be reviewing the W175 😂but here we are 😅. BTW you are right about the obvious reason on why this bike won't work in a country where people love REs and FZs all big bikes or atleast give the feel of being big depite being nimble and lightweight. Anyway Kawasaki has unveiled the W230 and Meguro S1in Japan with 250cc single cylinder air cooled engine . I don't know about the Meguro S1 250cc but the W230 engine gearbox is derived from KLX 230 dual sport bike which is air cooled 227cc , single cylinder engine producing 19.5nm torque and 20hp with a 6 speed gearbox actually. It has dual channel ABS as standard with FI obviously. I think that is perfect for india to fight RE Hunter 350 as a retro commuter bike . All they need to do is get it here in India with tubeless tyre alloy wheels variant and aggressive price 😅. Anyway as always love your cinematic yet honest review. Keep them coming ❤😌🙌.

    • @aashutoshbhagat2677
      @aashutoshbhagat2677 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hedonicalex well W230 is bigger than W175 anytime with bigger engine, wheelbase and tyres with different frame and chassis. It may not have the heft of RE but it will look like a taller version of Jawa 42 and that's enough for most people who want a lightweight peppy retro bike which weighs under 150kgs. If offered with tubeless tyre alloy wheels variant with a aggressive price tag it will definitely work.

    Hi Sarge, thanks 4 the review. I own this bike since past seven months. I generally use this W175 bike some of the days to commute to office for 60 kms in one stretch. The ride quality is good & engine is refined & i don't feel tiring when i drive even in long distance. I usually drive on higways @80 to 90 kmph it feels nice to ride it. The bike can hit 110kmph with some effort though. I have tried it. But overall its comfortable speed is between 70 to 90kmph i feel.

    My father was looking for an upgrade from his humble 16 year old Honda unicorn; I'd love to share my Speed 400 with him but he wants a dedicated bike for himself.
    He is 65 and back then wanted to buy a Jawa however settled for a Lambretta as utility was a priority back then. I wish Kawasaki would have worked a bit more on the design aspect of the bike and also provided rear disc brake; He used KB100 back then and was looking for W175 when it was launched but was dissapointed with the look of the bike!

    I took a test ride and feel its a good city bike with occasional long rides. The suspension is very good. Absorbs bumps easily giving a comfortable ride. Handling in nimble in heavy traffic also because its I feel its a perfectly balanced bike. Few things lacking are good meter with gear indicator, a little wider rear tyre. Its has more than enough power. But milage is an issue for the engine capacity. Even short riders will find easy.

    They're popular in the Southeast Asian market because people use them as project bikes to build trackers, scramblers, brat bikes, and cafe racers. If you search for modified W175, you'll find many beautiful custom builds. However, India does not have a similar modification culture, and it also does not make any sense to use an underpowered 175cc bike with a price tag of 1.4 Lakhs as a project bike. Maybe if they priced it under around 90k and marketed it as a project bike with different mod kits, then it would have made some sense.

    @sagarsheldekar, Hello... Nice coverage of all aspects of the bike. I need your suggestion. Presently I'm using Yamaha FZ-S V3 Deluxe model (149CC). Its absolutely amazing bike with top class reliability, engine refinement and handling. Am getting a constant mileage from FZS in between 53-55 KMPL as per my usage pattern. One of the stable & grippy motor cycle on road. Am bit passionate about bikes. So, Can go with Kawasaki W175...? Power (12.87 Vs 12.2 BHP) and Torque (13.2 Vs 13.3 N-m) almost identical W175 vs FZS, Though W175 is 177CC motor cycle. I need family comfortable bike too. Can i expect same level of performance and mileage from W175..?? please suggest me. How is seat and pillion comfort..? Do the tyre sizes matter for handling..?? kindly answer all my queries. Thank you

    I am very disappointed as a bike enthusiast. I just wanna ask one question, why would a price sensitive market like India would pay so much for just a basic bike? (as wise men say, looks ain't enough). you get nothing for paying such a price. I think Team Green got the Indian commuter bike formula completely wrong.
    Kudos to Sarge for still being so kind to the bike despite that XD
    Honestly, that positivity is one of the reasons we love to watch your reviews. Love to see you enjoy every ride, no matter how the machine is. Cheers to a good show.

    The target audience for such bike always considers fuel efficiency, ease of maintenance and PRICE which w175 completely fails to deliver. Reliability is debatable considering a Hero Splendor will last atleast 1L kms before asking for a engine rebuild for fraction of the price. The enthusiast won't even bother to look at this.
