    In this video, I hike out to have a nice camp in the rain. I love to camp in the rain and I do it frequently. I was very excited to cook on the campfire and try out a plow point tarp shelter. I got a very unpleasant surprise, which you will see in the video.
    I am a big believer that sometimes you have to know when to throw in the towel.

      Some areas just don't make good campsites, no matter how many trees they have.

      Hey Sam! I think that yellow wrapped/wrinkled paper was either a McDonald's wrap or Burger King or...ah-em a poo bag for a person if not a dog...?? You will not believe the crap I have found around my area hometown...and it gets me very angry because I have no idea why or how the junk got there in the first place.

    Hello from Oklahoma! Good Video! I liked and subscribed. That yellow plastic is more than likely what's left of a mylar balloon someone let go to remember a loved one etc... I find them all the time in my travels. I found one about 160 miles from a town one time deer hunting here in Oklahoma. I burn them in my fires. Appreciate your honesty. Love what You're doing.👍👍 God Bless!

    Hah! I made that same tarp setup mistake the first time I went winter (18 deg F and ~20 " of snow and still snowing!) tarp-camping, too. Also, after getting up (never got to sleep for more than a half hour or so) at 3-hour intervals to take care of business, on the third wake-up I said THWI; packed up at 0400 and walked out in the dark! Cheers!

    Another great video. I appreciate that you still post even when the camp doesn’t go as planned. Personally, I don’t know that I’d have handled hiking out of the woods in the pitch darkness and coming across an ancient cemetery with the same positive attitude you did. I’ve seen too many horror movies. 😱😂

    Dude you always smother your fires before they get going good. Hint, thick white smoke. Don't pile on so much wood till it really gets going good and hot. I still like you're videos dude you are one I can't wait to see. Thanks man

      Thanks Lillian! I swear next time I’m going to follow all the rules to making a perfect fire on the next one haha. I’m always in a rush because shooting the trip makes everything take so much longer. Thank you for watching, I appreciate the view and the feedback. Stuff like this helps me get better.

    Sam I don't understand high 20s you had enough insulation on the ground ? Your decision bit it would have been fine

    • @CampingwithSamBananas
      @CampingwithSamBananas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In hindsight I may have been alright. It was below freezing, and the foam mat only has an R Value of about 1.5. I would have liked leaves for some insulation but all the leaves were wet. Meaning when it dropped below freezing, I’d be laying on a bed of frozen leaves.

    Not criticizing at all, but I'm thinking that if I was in that situation I would have weighed the risk of being a bit cold from the ground (use some gear for insulation underneath??) versus the, IMO, less safer option of bushwacking back to the the trail and hiking in the darkness. High risk of injury.....Of course I wasn't there so you made your own decision. Just throwing it out there for others to think about should they encounter that situation.

      I appreciate the perspective. Having to do it again, I think I might have tried to tough it out. These are woods I'm in a lot and I know them very well. So I decided to leave. I never what to let my pride stop me from throwing in the towel.
