Takes me back when I was 9 and in my grandpa's 3588. It was the first tractor I ever ran by myself. Pulled a 28' 490 disc. Man those were the days i wish i had back. Thanks for the video.
The Fuel tank radiator and Engine all sat out front . The back half of the tractor was a 86 series rear end . The 2 + 2 stood for is that You got all the advantages of a two wheel drive tractor plus the advantage of two more Full Time drive wheels up front. Basically a Four Wheel drive tractor with Row crop Versatility . It was kinda ahead for its time.
Totally, and the front and rear tires always followed in the same track which no other tractor did then. You did such a great job with the video. love it. I hope I can find a clean anteater myself real soon.
epic and very moving emotional video+song. man.....when i think of the good old times, i as an young boy with my grandpa on the fields with our IHC 644. and later the 1455XL........where is the time its to fast then he died and all was over :(
I remember going to a special Saturday morning breakfast at our local IH dealer, Gause Equip, when they unveiled the new 2+2. I was about 9 and thought we should have one. Dad didn't think we'd be able to turn it around on our 300 acres so my input didn't matter.
@DerbyDriverLD50 Yeah Ive heard that too. I also herd that they were bad for wearing out the pivot pin in the center of the tractor where they articulate. Yeah what an awsome tractor.
Awesome tractor. I like those tires/wheels you got on there. I also noticed some narrower style wheels in your pictures. I don't know much about tractors so I was wondering what reason would you have to put the narrower wheels on? I figure you'd do that to have duallies but then why not have duallies all the time?
Narrow wheels are row crop work. The slender wheels are designed to fit between rows of corn etc. In wheat country people may have ordered big "donut" wheels for extra traction. It was possible to fit the tractor with "row crop" dual wheels , that is two narrow wheels per axle spaced to fit between the rows of plants,
@chambsuper90 Yeah its ashame they didnt catch on ... Ive drove one before it takes some time to get use to it but the concept was just too far for it time.
I've often wondered about these tractors. Whats the deal with the mile long snout on them ? What the hell is under the hood that required them to be so long ? Also what did the 2+2 stand for ?
@@blixtkrig wow thanks for telling me that. I grew up in very remote mountains and forests as well. We spent out time logging and farming. So I completely understand how if Skynyrd was not played 20 times a day on your local radio stations you would not know. And in Finland I'm sure the local radio stations are quite different.

Wonder if Case IH will reintroduce the 2+2 design in a rubber track version? To compete with the JD 8RX 4-track row crop tractors.

I need one like this. I had to turn the sound off, because I like to hear the tractor. The song was too sad.
