Great reaction! Ren was an upcoming artist and was signed by Sony when he was younger but he started getting sick and was misdiagnosed many times, doctors told him he was schizophrenic and gave him multiple pills that just made his mental health deteriorate. Later he was diagnosed with lyme disease and had a stem cell treatment to get better. That first line bitten by a tick boy, stem cell poster boy is a killer one. I feel once you know a bit of his background this song ties it up really well and it adds a whole another level to it. Check Hi Ren and What you want

@@RoarTheRapper yeah, being undiagnosed for a decade, that Lyme Disease was allowed to ravage his body and brain, causing constant inflammation in his whole body, which also caused him to suddenly have allergic reactions to almost all foods so he was severely restricting his diet, but out of necessity. Unbeknownst to him, he’d also stopped recovering from viruses and infections properly but instead his body was harboring some of those invaders for all those years. His body was attacking itself, his immunity was down to nothing basically. To add insult to injury, he was being given loads of anti anxiety and anti psychotic meds that were not treating the root cause of his problems, because they didn’t really believe there was a treatable physical root cause for his mountain of ever increasing problems. They told him it was all in his head. However, those meds only served to worsen the anxiety, depression and psychotic episodes due to him still constantly being in pain while being heavily medicated for what they told him was wrong with him. So walking around either severely suffering mentally and physically or mentally numb from the constant stream of meds all these doctors were throwing at him, but still being in such awful physical pain. Being put through all of that for a decade, while a silent disease was ravaging his health, that all resulted in some degree of brain damage. I’m thoroughly impressed he even survived. I’m unsure he knows his own strength. He’s seeing a specialist in Canada that is doing daily IV treatments (Lyme disease treatment and nutrition, vitamins and minerals, to get his body in tip top physical shape and hopefully expanding his diet again) for at least 6 months or maybe longer depending on how he responds to those treatments in getting his body in tip top shape and hopefully his body will start accepting more foods without an allergic reaction) and all the associated treatments he’ll need to address all the other physical and mental health issues caused by the Lyme disease being left untreated for so long.

@@NativeNYerChicHK I really hope the treatments in Canada will help him. I feel super protective of him now! Crazy, I know. Signed, a former NYChick! 😎

Definitely check out "Hi Ren". It pairs well with "Sick Boi" both visually and thematically, but is a complete different style of rap, and one of the best overall artistic performances I've seen in ages from any musician. It's the video that really grabbed the attention of a lot of people. I've become a big fan of all of his different styles: solo rapping and masterpieces of storytelling such as "The Tales of Jenny and Screech" (with the excellent "Violet's Tale" pulling it all together at the end), and the rock-focused performances with his band the Big Push. If you want to focus on rap, after "Hi Ren", check out "The Hunger," "Money Game" (part one for a cool performance video, and part two for a studio-focused song), "Genesis," "What You Want" for fun Beastie Boys vibes (not a cover), or his "retakes". A lot of his solo stuff is rap-focused, but he's a tremendous guitar player and singer, too.

@Steven Bunn Agree on all the above.
A track on my playlist this morning, It's Alright, is a more gentle ballad, and I was teary listening having learned so much about Ren since Hi Ren.
Just the most versatile, real artist, open and raw and vulnerable. Words really aren't enough.

What I take away from the message Ren is sharing through his art here is the experiences many people endure when they are chronically sick trying to find solutions within a failing healthcare system. I know this story well from my own experiences.
    In summary....from my perspective.
He was clearly sick with a treatable condition. This wasn't diagnosed so he became chronically ill with multiple complications, including pain, psychosis and inability to function in everyday life. The professionals he saw focused on his mental health rather than recognising the devestation a parasitic infection caused. The judgement, stigma, dismissiveness, trivialising symptoms and lack of genuine investment in finding out what was wrong and treating it appropriately, is enough to send anyone over the edge. The mind body connection is overplayed, so access to the right care is blocked, leaving him sick, getting sicker without the right treatment. The Pigs are perhaps those who will seek to take your money, rather than helping.
Ren puts into his art the experiences of so many who are failed by the systems that are supposed to be there to provide healthcare. His work is pure brilliance and artistic genius!

As someone that’s been in pain management since 04 (botched double knee surgery), got slammed with a handful of some really awful diseases and side effects, this song hits hard. I’m still new to the Ren rabbit hole, but art hits in ways I’ve rarely run into. His openness, and transparency, is just phenomenal.
This is the first reaction of yours I’ve seen, and I really enjoyed it. It’s obvious (besides you mentioning it =) you’ve been through somethings as well, so best wishes on your health and I’m looking forward to catching up on your content.

You have one hell of a journey ahead diving deeper into Ren. His art is incredible. Hi Ren should probably be the next port of call, but I'll also throw Money Game 1 and 2 and The Hunger in the ring here, plus the tale of Jenny and Screech (full). Really, there are no misses here. Enjoy the ride.

Rens Lyme disease was misdiagnosed for around 10 years. So i feel this is about that, how he felt through it mentally and physically. He was treated for M. E, schizophrenia, bi polar ( i think) a whole load of other stuff, BEFORE they discovered it was Lymes disease. All of which has left him with long term issues/side effects , physically and mentally.
He was signed to Sony but all his health issues prevented him taking it up.
He's currently in Canda recieving treatment for MCAS. Im so happy people are picking up on his music. He deserves this and so much more!
    Big love to Ren
Ren is a frickin musical genius.

Ren's problem was Lymes disease..... which probably got a chance to get hold before it was diagnosed ..and resulting in a long stay in care, bed bound.
Kids, don't go looking for ticks...Ren was probably already a potential genius before that interrupted him. x

It could also. E the medication that they put you on could makes thi gs actually worse cause some mental health problems looks like other more obvious issues. If they just assume you have the obvious problem and not do their research it could be very damaging to the real issue you actually have. As im sure a gang of people including ren knows about
