- In an unexpected turn of events, I spotted this Rx7 series 1 up a driveway and had to buy it! We attempt to get the 12a rotary engine started after it has been sitting for the past 10 years! Sit back & enjoy 😁.

What should I do with this car? Hit me with your ideas!
Restore it or turn it into 3 rotor gen 1? That would be a first
@@hamiltonsullivan6563 Not sure my bank account could cope with that haha...
Restore rust and sell it bro get that bank
Find a cheap M42 and a getrag box, put them in and add some boost. Perfect cheap reliable ripper.
turbocharge it and/or peripheral port. Get that brap sound. That's what I'm planning for my build. Blow through turbo setups are sick!
I just bought a 1980 RX-7 that hasn't run in over 10 years. this video is invaluable to me!!!!!! hope to do the exact same thing on saturday. love the content! thanks.
Hell yeah! Good luck with getting her started. Awesome cars
@@itsmikelake thanks. will have fire extinguishers at the ready :)
@@itsmikelake start attempt failed. I know i have spark, but I think the carb has unknown issues. not sure the rotors are getting fuel. got a lot of other stuff done to the car though. a good productive weekend. have to figure out if the carb is worth trying to save or if I should move on to a new one - or different like a weber. thanks.
The Tacho is a Volt metre before it starts. Hence the 2000rpm was actually 11V or so
Please keep it and do a build even try your own little porting on it
I didn’t even know it was possible to port them yourself?!
@@itsmikelake machine die and dremel could probably get it pretty good clean up casting i know vargas brothers sell a stencil im pretty sure
@@BrodiemcCready not sure Vargas bros sell stencils for 12a rotaries.
@@Jake_Hamlin would there be much difference and couldnt you just give a gradual port by hand and machine die
get Racing Beat porting templates
Yesssss! As the owner of a S3 LImited I’m keen for this. Love the V5s I want a set for mine as they’re perfect for the era! Factory non-wiper rear hatch is rare too.
Ohhhh thanks for letting me know the model of wheel! Just looked them up and looks like they’d refurbish real nice. Polished lip would be 👌🏻. Thinking I might have to put some effort into this car and make it nicez
@@itsmikelake They're a nice wheel for the first gen. I would clean her up a bit as it looks pretty solid and they're only going up in value.
Just want to correct you v5 is 5stud v4 is 4 stud. The rim is called Simmons versa
God damn your videos are great m8! This is exactly the type of car content I love!
Thank you homie!
Woohoo love these year rx-7 .. dude keep that!!
I enjoyed that. A good watch! Good luck with the restoration journey!
Cheers team!
Man. I dream of a barn find series 1.
surely build this!!!
I may have to 😭
RIP bank account
@@itsmikelake Just nimble it ;)
This is crazy bro I'm so jealous
Bloody good find mate! You’d be stoked!
That is a keeper
Yeah sell the 280. Fix up the RX7
Keep both! Restore both & just need a little care & cleaning...
I wish I had the money for that 😅
@@itsmikelake well like myself, i have four projects and i am going to clean up and have them driveable and in sound condition. I hope you keep them both but fix up one at a time. Good Luck
Got yourself a beauty man show the motor and running gear the love they need and slowly work on the body i was super excited she started and im all the way in the uk🤣
Ps. Use a kmr template if you port her but do your research also give radpotentials ytube channel a look hes got all the info your gonna need!
Hey bro, thanks for the love! And cheers for the info, i'll take a look. I already love the little thing haha. Let's see what we can do with her 😁.
@@itsmikelake thats what the petrol head communitys about man sharing the love! Theres one pretty local to me which is totally gone stood 15years but i feel i should save her an this video has nailed it into my brain🤣
Keep up the good content hope she treats you well shes a keeper haha!
Hell yeah Mike that's sick!
You should definitely keep it though
congrats! i own an S1 myself, fun little rigs
Thanks! How does she go? This one feels like it’d have some go with everything tightened up.
@@itsmikelake runs like a treat! just a pain finding parts, my front calipers siezed on me and i cant find new ones so i have to retro fit something, pretty much like anything with this car... atleast this chassis is getting more popular and easier to find info! check out @Radpotential on youtube, hes got great rx7 content!
So fuckin excited to get some shots when this beast is down at calder 😍
11 months ago, do you have the car 🚗 still in your possession? I am a Rx7 1980 original & first owner. It's garaged & parked. I used to own a 1973 Datsun 240z with a black & white interior. I got the Rx7, because its style was as almost close to the Z, and it was the first one in town. I will watch your video to see if you get the Rx7 started. Sounds like I remember! You got it started but needs some more tender adjustments...
love the car hopefully you'll make a nice profit!
There's one by me I've been talking to this guy for 6 years trying to get it....
It ain’t a motor unless it’s a rotor.....yeeeew big dawg. Bring the kiwi 🥝 spec rota to life gee
Haha love this!! Hell yeah brother ✌🏻
The tac is also a voltmeter from memory with the key on not running
Epic barn find for sure!
Build both 🤷♂️👌
Hey Mike what you see on those pips that coming together with the muffler is a air converssion to a more compression but they dont need it specialy the 12A engine maybe are the smaller engine in the RX verssion of Mazda but is very economic in gas and one of the must powerful engine in the market I us to have three of them and I eliminate all thos pips and hoses conected to the muffler pips and just leave the headers and the get at least 50 more horse power so for me you can eliminate those tubes and pips the this car dont need it because only make a bit more dificult to work on them and you going to have more power and estability on the car other thing for this cars is the if they have a single spark plug get a tripoid spark plugs but dont forget that those tripoids coming with letters and numbers for example the top's ones coming with 1 t and 2 t and the bottom's one's coming with a 2 b and 2 b so you can distinguish where they going because if you don't know those car's even with the 1.1 that is a 12 A and 1.3 that is the 13B engines they are not a 4 they are in cilinders a 6 cilinder's because each Diabolo have three points and each diabolo means a cilinders in the piston's engine in case that you need some more advice just let me know in here at the coments thx Mike and I hope that you going to love this lil but powerfull car also the RX* is a nine cilinder's if was a piston because they RX8 have three diabolos insted 2 and the engine change to R20x thx and like I said if need more advice let me know
Sooooo goooood!!!
Keep it!
Omg that is awesome man
Cage it, weld the diff and take it to Friday night drifts #sendit
Dammit this is a good idea haha
#doit
Caging it could hurt its value alot
In whose eyes? Invest in property or ETFs if you want to increase in value. Leave the cars for us kids to enjoy
Sell the datsun, keep the rx7.
Haha, never!!
Sick find man!
Thank ya bro!
I bought my S2 in Oct last year it was a country car and had been sitting around for 10 years im the 3rd owner now.
Yeeeew
so i recently purchased a junk rx7 thats been sitting for 40 years. I have no idea where to start. ive been watching revival videos like junkyardigs for years, but i have no idea what to do on a rotary, especially because im scared to touch cars with electronics :| any tips?
Now we are talking
It's not bore, it's dore (dorito).
Cant you just twist the distributor to tune the timing?
I remember Nugget Garage did an episode tuning a 12a on their Dyno
Dont think rotaries love to breath too much, I know long tube equal length headers are best and if each housing doesnt have the length the torque goes down considerably.
I wouldnt sell this, just clean it up and sit on it for awhile. Maybe weld the diff for some fun
Raffle it off..
Not a bad idea! Restore it and raffle it?
I would just raffle it as is.. plenty of people would be interested in it this its a honest car with nothing hidden and a quick turn over on cash for you.. I can't see how you would lose out. If you restore it and raffle there is probably to many over heads to make decent money off it and may well end up with the same profit as not touching it at all?.. $25 tickets pick how much you want for the car and cap the ticket amount off that number, any one would be stoked to win it that way.. no matter what you do with it will be awesome either way
You lost me when you showed the fd
