I was rewatching this video and now I have a direct quote from John Mayer to reply to you that I didn't have
"rip me off in fundamental ways" watch it in context(prs silver sky guitar musings), you'll learn a lot

It’s a pity an old guitar is all he can afford. Not like Harry, he’s got those daytime job dollars now, but he doesn’t even care if he makes the scene anymore. What a jackass.

Jefferson Multimedia Mayer, whom may have started self-taught, is definitely not solely self-taught. He went to Berklee and roomed with James Valentine whom is the current Maroon 5 guitarist.

People might already said this, but the stop this train slap thing is more of a "slap with thumb, flick/hit another string with first finger" thing, so when he slaps he also hits a string at the same time.

Wow - great job demonstrating those 3 stylistic JM techniques. I was unaware of the prep-rake sound but once you demonstrated it I could spot it immediately. I'm impressed that you can discern those nuaces and then show how us the standard approach and how JM is a cut above in his execution and unique voicing of chords. Thanks for sharing amigo! Cheers.

Thanks for explaining a bit about the "Hendrix style" of wrapping your thumb around to the top strings to replace the barre chord shape. I always thought it was just a trick to mute the top strings so you don't accidentally strum them when you don't want to. I've even have had other guitarists claim it was a sloppy hack for sloppy strumming.

JM actually plays note with his pointer finger when he slaps his thumb on bass string in half of his songs ..including 'Stop this train' which you played muting the note with each slap, thereby killing the feeling of the song. Who says, heart of life are some other songs where he plays note while slapping instead of completely muting all strings.

It'd be interesting to see you try "Habits of Ryan Adams". I'd appreciate it at least! His guitar work back in The Cardinals from 2005-2009 was incredible. He holds back A LOT nowadays.

Related to this you did a video about a rhythmic blues solo approach. Would be great to see an in depth video about that

BTW, how about doing a video of outtakes from our other videos? As in, the blooper reel. :)
