I find this totally entertaining, I wonder what the profit would be subtracting overhead like fuel, insurance and Dottie maintenance. Then divide by the hours it took to get the scrap materials. I'll bet scrapping has become the source for content at this point and the money made from selling it is peanuts in comparison, but totally worth it. I'm a general contractor in the north bay area in California, we do a lot of remodel on commercial buildings, I have laborers save up non-ferrous scrap at my yard in 55 gallon drums and bring it to recycle in our flatbed once a year. It's usually around $20,000 of copper, brass, lead etc. and we have a Christmas party where I cook prime rib for employees and their families. Then whatever is left I divide evenly amongst the employees, usually like $800 cash each on top of their yearly bonus. 20 years ago, before I was really aware of scrap value everything went into 20-40 yard debris boxes. The first year I started telling guys to save it they acted like it was a pain in the butt, now I hear employees telling other employees to separate everything and haul it back to the yard in a laborers truck because they like getting a good little extra bonus a couple weeks before Christmas.

My scrapyard doesn’t pay out for cleaned anything…it’s all considered dirty….except for copper…then it has to be shiny and cleaned perfectly…if not then it’s all #2 payout…they figure…where else are we gonna take our metal then lol…they’re the only scrapyard within 70 miles….
Damn that's crappy of them I'd definitely find a different yard or there's gotta be buyers for your precious metals somewheres around you or maybe even an idea to get into
