This movie was awesome, has a lot of heart. A love letter of old school film making.

I picked up a DVD of "Spine Tingler" The William Castle story. Very good it has interviews with his daughter and John Waters and it is a loving tribute to Mr. Castle and his film legacy. It's a must watch...

One of my all time favorite films. Not so much for the Key West segments, but for the Mant! scenes. The dialogue was outstanding. For example, in one scene the wife, and doctor are talking, while her husband is locked in a jail cell behind them. The doctor is already on the make for the wife, just biding his time until the husband completes his transformation into a giant ant. At one point the wife turns to Bill (husband) and in an effort to calm him down she says, "Oh, Bill, if you could only put the insect aside--" "Insecticide!" Bill screams. "Who's got insecticide?' I could not get over that line. The read was perfectly done. I had first seen The Tingler as a kid and loved it! So when Matinee came out and I saw it I instantly thought of William Castle. Joe did a great job.

This movie was sold as a comedy so when seeing it at the theatre it was disappointment from expectations. However, I enjoyed it. Watching it again about a month ago, knowing now it was far more a drama, I enjoyed it much more. Movies should market the truth about what they are, always.

Excellent video! Joe Dante has a very cool view on this stuff. Did you ever hear about Joe Dante's unmade official Godzilla project from the Early 2000s? Fascinating story.

I wish we had someone like William Castle these days, it would make movies worth seeing again instead of the political oriented crap we're being shoveled.

I was a member of the Castles real fan club. I got a postcard from him saying to repeat three times everyday, "William Castle is the master of movie magic." (Sometimes I still do for fun.). His auto-biography is on amazon. I maintain the his movies; House on Haunted Hill and The Tingler have great craft to them. Watch the pre-credit opening of House on Haunted Hill. Watch the trouble Castle went through to film the mute lady in black and white, put that on a screen in front of a blood bathtub and film that in color. And then hand-splice that into 200 prints of the movie.

I grew up in the 60’s. They really could have dropped “the bomb” at that point. They still could, it just seemed more possible in the 50’s and 60’s because WWII was recently over and atomic testing was going on.
