    In the beginning I also hated watercolors because it was very difficult for me to control the amount of water.
    Either I had a lot of thin light paint that a puddle had formed on the paper or very dry with interrupting brushstrokes.
    Either desert or flood, unfortunately, there was no in-between for me.
    I tried it out a couple of times and then put it aside for a long time out of frustration.
    Years later I got a box with watercolor pencils and was able to practice the amount of color and water separately by drawing with the pencils and then adding the water with a brush.
    so I could grope me slowly and have about 2 or 3 years needed for me to make friends with watercolor.

    Hot press paper layers just fine, it is frequently used by botanical and photorealistic watercolour painters who work in dozens of layers building up to brilliant colour. You just have to avoid using super wet brushes as it will pool and make cauliflower effects.

    Hi Shayda! The round brush set you recommend, in your description, for beginners is in low stock on Amazon and the only seller has a terrible reputation for malicious sales. Could you possibly recommend and alternative set for beginners that is affordable as well? Your videos have woken the little spark in me to begin art against for the first time in over a decade. Thank you...thank you. 💜

    Good explanatory video ;-).
    The Heritage paper is unfortunately out of my budget,
    because I still have to be able to afford paints and rarely a replacement brush in order to be able to continue painting as often as I like.
    I think there are some alternatives and there are different favorite papers.
    I buy my materials in the offer and from then on I save money again in order to be able to buy them again the next time when my material is almost used up.
    Good for my small budget that watercolors use up very slowly,
    that I have to replace a brush happens very seldom and that I can paint on paper from two sides, that is not possible with canvas.

      Wonderful! Art doesn't have to be scary or overwhelming. Too often we put too much pressure on ourselves to create something 'great'. But an afternoon spent painting and doodling is so rewarding, it's like you're baking muffins, not a wedding cake. It's just for fun. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Shayda, I've bin wondering if you could make a video about scan the work that you make into the computer. Here's my struggle, that when I'm finished with my art work, I really want the same good quality I have on my paper also get into my computer.
    If somebody has some tips they are welcome!
    And thank you so much for al your video's, I'm learning so much from you!

    • @ShaydaCampbell
      @ShaydaCampbell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Desie, Yes, it is a struggle, isn't it?! Digitizing artwork is such a difficult thing to do well. I'm still figuring it out myself. For now, since watercolors are so notoriously hard to scan, I'm photographing my artwork and putting it into the computer that way. I up the contrast/exposure and then rework the colors once I'm happy with my file. I'll absolutely consider making a tutorial on this process in the future. Best of luck! And please, if anyone has more suggestions, post em!

    Shayda, this is a great tutorial. I always wondered what it looked like painting using the hot press and rough paper. I use only use a cold press. I've been wondering if there is a way to make a dot style sheet to take with you to say the park. Have you ever made something like this?

    • @ShaydaCampbell
      @ShaydaCampbell  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, for a long time I only used cold-pressed as well. Trying to get the hang of hot-pressed now, but I don't like it nearly as much! I'm not sure what you mean by 'a dot style sheet'. Can you clarify? I do like the Canson paper blocks for taking with me on the go. :) And you can get small ones on Amazon, maybe it's just me, but I seem to like working small when I'm at the park or the beach.

    • @Gray_Day_Flower_Farm
      @Gray_Day_Flower_Farm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shayda Campbell I guess that would be similar. I know some of the bigger name brands use them as samples but it’s seems to be like a dot of watercolor that you can try out. I was thinking that it would be fun to try to make but not certain where to start. Like what kind of paper to put it on or what kind of paints to use that would dry well enough to make it work.

    This is a good video, the information is very helpful. But I have a different type of question. Why is it almost all of the people who make art related or book related videos have these aggressively white color dominant backgrounds? Its like the shelves are white, the items are white, the decor is white, the light is white. Its like everything and their poop is white. How much white and why does everyone do that? Is this what youtube tells people provokes more clicks or somethings. Its like white color decor is soon going to become a cliche like the wood panels and dirty earthy orange and red colors in the 70s, or the horrible neon lighting, plus blue and pink combo of the 80s. Its just so unsettling. Does anybody's apartment and working area look that white?
