her rebrand was the right decision, BUT, to survive she will have to find her own aesthetic; yes, she looks mysterious, but in a Lana del Rey style, she dresses like Madonna and imitates Britney in her photos, for the moment it works, but eventually the public will start to call her attention for that if she keeps doing it for long, she has potential, but only if she finds her style.

  • @auliamate

addison rae going from a cringey clock app girl to a genuinely popular music artist is also heavily powered by diet pepsi just being enjoyable AND you know, rae being seen as "good at making good music". not my can of soda personally, but diet pepsi is a listenable track (unlike ksi's thick of it), she was on von dutch and the borrowed credibility (tee hee) from brat being so lauded is that addison is now seen not just as a serious artist, but a serious artist who can make songs you'd wanna listen to. i say this is kinda what bella poarch did with her EP and singles being enjoyable music, wouldn't be the same if the song sucked 🤷
if diet pepsi was more in the lines of jake paul's "music" or charli d'amelio's happy, it definitely wouldn't have reached the success it did. so props to addison and her production team for dropping a banger!

Hello I loved this video and have Diet Pepsi on repeat lol🙌 Your end point about how cringe is part of the process is v true; I don’t think it’s a coincidence that ‘messy’ is a part of both Lana and Charli’s brands and that brat/von Dutch is all about being hot and hated but cool regardless. It’s more effective than pretending she has never been ‘cringe’ or basic. ANYWAY I don’t mean to sound like the worst person ever but I’m an editor and I get really stressed about the fact that there’s a grammatical error in your intro😩 When you say “i analyse pop culture girl icons, because many of whom are unaware of the impact they have..” the word “because” disrupts the emphasis of the sentence and makes “whom” incorrect - but it’s all correct if you just remove ‘because’. If you kept ‘because’ it would need to become ‘because many of them’. Apologies if you’ve heard this, just wanted to clarify if that’s useful! ❤

I think what is the most cringe is the unintelligence and lack of self awareness displayed. We are significantly advantaged by being intelligent and having self-awareness of our surroundings. Being around people who have none, deeply infuriates me. I do not envy them, I do not wish I could be like them, I get frustrated by it. And the only reason they get any recognition is because we often idealise the wrong things these days that don’t even benefit us, individually, long-term. Wtf is she doing to better people around her or society, considering she has enough of a following to do so? Envy and second-hand embarrassment are not synonymous

Someone who isn’t well known enough for people to even be interested in and wonder where they are might need to align more with what Jojo Siwa was doing perhaps by posting a lot on the platform?

I feel like today it's either "she's giving nothing," but when someone starts giving, it's like "ew she's cringe." People can't have different personalities or do weird things anymore because there's so much judgment. Especially when the judgment has a huge platform. We ruin it and wonder why people don't know what to do with themselves on stage.
