Personally, I think it’s a good idea, but it depends on the amount and the person receiving it
If the kid is immature enough, he will be more responsible and
      spare some for later
As a person receiving money every week I think it has been the best thing because I can buy little things that can change a person day ❤

@@Abashed_Sticker3w As a former rich kid and now a 34-year old new mom sometimes I resent my parents for not teaching me life skills. I learned how to wash my own undies when I was 31. My then bf (now husband) and I just moved in together and he had the surprise of his life when he learned he is dating someone who doesn't know how to clean a house, do laundry, tie a knot, etc... because I didn't have to learn any of it because the maids can do it. He was raised poor, and sometimes he'd be really honest and say things like I'd never survive the real world the way I was back then. He slowly taught me a lot of things, but most of it started learning by myself because he'd give me "frustrated" looks when I do stuff around the house and he sees I'm not doing it properly.
As a new mom I'd go to my husband's parents for advice about how to take care of a baby. My MIL had 6 kids she raised herself. I just learned my own parents have no idea how to mix formula or change diapers. They hired nurses and nannies for that.

I have an IPhone that I got from my dad (he got the new iPhone 14 and I got his old X, he even bought my sister a new SE because she destroyed my old SE that she got handed down to her. My X is first gen (i think) so it doesn’t have 0.5 and I’d really like a new phone soon because my phone consistently has no storage, and the battery is really messed up and glitches (and I have a feeling it’ll die soon) but I feel bad even asking for just that. My first phone was a flip phone, my first iPhone was a iPhone 5s. These kids don’t take good care of their phones because to them they don’t have real worth, my sister being an example of that, she does not take good care of her phone despite the fact hers is brand new (from Christmas). Hers is already shattered on the screen practically, but my phone isn’t cracked at all just old. It’s bullshit tbh

Hahahah if those kids had to work for that money they wouldn't be puffed up. My parents are middle class, and they always raised me and my siblings with a "you want that toy, you have to earn your own money to buy it" mentality (which has led me to appriacte money since a young age). And now as a teen, I have my own part time job (because I'm still in school, if not I'd have a full time job lol) and am starting to save up to go to secondary education or get a car(probably a used Toyota). My parents never gave me money if I didn't work for it, and I'm all the better for that.
    .
Edit: the "kids" that I mention are in the age group of 8-10-18 year olds, not little toddlers or smth. When we were younger (around 4-8) we'd help our mom with small tasks like matching socks and folding towls and picking up our toys (which I actually found fun lol).

      You had a good upbringing.
I have earned money from my family since childhood, but I always saved it and then started investing. I never felt like this money was really mine, so whenever I spent it I spent it very carefully, on durable things that I would use a lot or were very necessary.
Today I'm an architect, I work, but they still give me money and the accumulated money remains invested there. From an early age I think about accumulating resources, investments, assets, to retire in the future.
I think that if the person is well educated (which these children clearly weren't), even if they have access to money they will have common sense, they won't be an empty pot like these tiktokers

I’m 27 and was raised during the recession. I was raised very similarly. If there was something that I really wanted and my parents approved of it, we’d bargain for it to be a reward for something big. I remember wanting Animal Crossing Wild World for my ds lite and that was a reward for finishing 6th grade with all As. By way of a college fund, my mom bought a savings bond each year from my birth for me to cash when I got into college.

    • @wifflewaffle5006
      @wifflewaffle5006 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I agree and disagree, on one hand I do think it’s good and very logical to teach kids the importance of money and that you need to be aware of how much you have and whether it’s reasonable to spend it on this thing or maybe save it up for something better that they may want
You know, I get that, I really do
But I also believe in kids being kids? I don’t believe kids should ALWAYS being doing chores or pushing themselves into a breakdown trying to keep their grades up in school just for the slim promise they may get what they want
      For teens? Definitely
For kids? Eeehhhhh, it depends on the level of chores or expectations ur putting on them to earn their buck
Small chores yes, but if you’re having ur 8 year old scrubbing all ur walls and floors over a dollar store toy then I’m pretty sure that’s just child labour and I don’t agree with that
I also don’t agree with parents who make these terms just to make it easier to pawn chores onto their kids
I resented my mom for the fact that it seemed like since I could walk and move I was forced to do chores that she just didn’t want to do, and lmao I wasn’t even paid or given toys for it, just chores 😭

I kinda disagree with your parents parenting, kids shouldn't have to be working a job or jobs just to be able to go to school.(I think they should be working jobs to learn responsibility and the value of money) They should be living like kids doing dumb things and hanging out with friends.
It really should be the parents job to secure a future for their children. Not the kids themselves. Don't have kids if you can't afford them.

Whose fault is it? The parents. 100%.
My classmates and friends growing up were VERY wealthy. Lots of old money but most were not entitled and detached like what you see on tiktok. Granted, old money and new money does make a difference in family attitudes but that said, I grew up watching my friends’ parents and my own parents snip bratty behavior at the bud. Some of the wealthiest people I know personally are very kind and down to earth and aware of their privilege. It’s not hard for parents to make their kids aware of their privilege and explain to them how there is so much poverty out there. It’s not hard to not spoil kids rotten.
In the same way though, many many are completely delusional. It all comes down to parenting.

I think because culture portrays material wealth as the key to happiness we just undermine any struggles they experience because we figure ‘they must be happy because they’re so rich’, whilst ignoring that there is so much more that goes into having a joyful life.
