He assumed a number excluding 9,1,0 and you can put any other no than 5 and check if ur expression is right or not , if not u can backtrack and try again
If you take E=4, N has to be 5, that makes R=8, now D+E has to be greater than 11 so Y is not 0 or 1. Such values are 8 and 9 which are already used as R and S respectively. If anybody has a different approach resulting in other answers, please tell me.
Constraints: Each letter represents a unique digit from 0 to 9. E and N must be distinct digits. E cannot be 0 (since O is 0). N must be greater than E by 1 (since E + 1 = N). Possible Values: If E = 5, then 5+1=6. Thus, N = 6.
Why do you need to complicate the simple understanding of a carry? Allow me to rephrase it simply because you re utterly confusing others. Students need to keep in mind that no two alphabets can have same numbers The carry was assumed on "E" because, as O is 0, whatever value is assumed to "E", the same value will be assigned to n because 5+0=5. Thus, we assumed a carry "1" because then 5+carry+0=n and 5+1+0=6. There you go, simple as that.
these problems can have multiple solutions but not this one.(thats why this question is asked a lot) The above given arrangement is the only solution to the question (unless you consider 'M' can be 0) so its either: S = 9, E = 5, N = 6, D = 7, M = 1, O = 0, R = 8, Y = 2 or S = 8, E = 4, N = 2, D = 1, M = 0, O = 6, R = 7, Y = 3 but idk if your study system allows taking 'M'=0 so i would not suggest considering that condition
Did not explained it correctly, he is assuming value by referring the answers directly, c3 can also generate a carry which will result in s 8 or 9 he didn't consider that at all , also why directly assume e as 5 , because he assumed the value based on answer directly
We know that E+O is N and O is 0, so that leaves us only one possibility for E to produce a carry, ie 9,but if E was 9 then N would have to be 0 as well, which is false. So no carry
You stupid he doesn't care about that case because there is always only one solution in a CryptArithmetic problem..he would have cared about that case if he had to backtrack (i.e., if there would have been some unsolvable equation in the ahead path of solving this problem)...So just be careful before analysing something & avoid judging a person before a correct judgement..& last try to appreciate the effort done by the person who tries to make your life better by providing these online materials available & easy to understand!!!

@@shahidshaikh7438 Agreed. On assumptions, we get different answers but they are accepted. The main goal is not to get the exact values but to get different values of the letters.
Bro letter O's value is zero... So without a carry over E would be equal to N since any number added to zero is the same number itself. And so we move to left to make a carry over 1 by assigning N=6 and R=8 which gives the result 6+8=14 and the carry over of 14 that is one will pass over which makes E=5 since x+0=6 with a carry over of 1.

Excellent explanation
You did not tell why we took 5 directly why not other smaller numbers 4 3 2

Sm here dude
Sir plzz reply...
Because by doing that the constraint won’t be satisfied as E=4 then N=4 which is wrong as two letters can’t get same digit.
Its all hit and trail method!
Yes i also confused
Sir why didnt' we consider carry for the last column. C3 ka ek possibility bhi consider kar sakte hai

There are multiple possible answers!
Any value other than 5 probably won't satisfy the upcoming conditions.

how did you take E as 5, I feel it its hit and trial but how can we choose more appropriate one
Well it's all about hit and trial. This mf knew the answer that's why he choose 5 directly

these types of questions have multiple answers possible
Mama said, "Your writing is very good and clear".

Superb explanation
Sir you made our problem easier
can it have multiple solutions.. e=2 also gives correct ans
these problems can have multiple solutions but not this one.(thats why this question is asked a lot) The above given arrangement is the only solution to the question (unless you consider 'M' can be 0)
so its either:
S = 9, E = 5, N = 6, D = 7, M = 1, O = 0, R = 8, Y = 2
or
S = 8, E = 4, N = 2, D = 1, M = 0, O = 6, R = 7, Y = 3
but idk if your study system allows taking 'M'=0 so i would not suggest considering that condition

S have two possibilities 8 if cosidering previous state carry or 9
The values between R and D can also be exchanged and there will be no effect
Nope, the equation doesn't hold up
Sir you are the best
s cant be 8 with carry , it has to be 9 as otherwise with s =8 O= 1+8+1=0 ,and if O is 0 , E= N which is not possible
thik se dekh pehle lawde
Sir,Why u considered C3=0 ?
We know that E+O is N and O is 0, so that leaves us only one possibility for E to produce a carry, ie 9,but if E was 9 then N would have to be 0 as well, which is false. So no carry

Sir why you assume E =5 you have not explained
because it can be any number but be advised according to constraint it shouldn't be assigned to other letters, meaning it should not be repeated.
