What an opportune time for this to release. My brother is finally going to try 2E and he's a little nervous about how complex it seems to him. Thanks for being the start of both of our Pathfinder journeys, NoNat!

I was a hard critic about Pathfinder 2E. I told myself I'd probably stick to Pathfinder 1E, for years to come. I was still curious, and gave Pathfinder 2E a try for my players. I started reading it just this October. Already approaching January, I am revving up to run the beginner box for my players. But even I got lost in books, I have already read all of the core rulebooks, except for Dark Archive which I am half-way through and will likely finish by the end of the week, and within the first week fell in love with the system. I am looking forward to running Kingmaker for my players in the near months.

Yeah, I used to play Pathfinder 1E and I was ready to say "That's it, this is the perfect edition. I'll never need another system." But now I'm really interested in seeing what 2E has.

    • @lukebatchelor717
      @lukebatchelor717 ปีที่แล้ว

yeah 2e is actually sorta ahead of its time. I didn't want to leave 1e behind, and I never have to, but it's improving upon perfection. How do you do that? Well, you just make a game that helps tell a story in an approachable, fun, gameable way. It's not totally streamlining or simplifying, but bringing things forward in a fun way .

My DM Switched to Pathfinder a while ago because they were getting bored of running DND 5e and wanted to switch it up for a new campaign within the same setting. Now all the players as well as the DM are enjoying it a lot, the fights are more dynamic and fun and player characters are more personal. Which led to my favourite character i have ever made.
Changing systems can be intimidating, especially one as dense as pathfinder 2e but it can be fun as well, i hope more people can learn to enjoy such a fun system

10:23 this is (so far) the best thing for me regarding Pathfinder 2E compared to D&D 5E. Coming from 5E into pathfinder i am staggered by the amount of options you get. In D&D i have always been frustrated by the lack of options many classes have unless you are specifically a spell-caster, which led to every character I would ever make being a multi-class, because I love having options. Just looking at the list of feats, ancestry's, Races, Weapons, so many ideas come to mind for...everything.
*Seriously, so, so many options. How are there so many races, so many WEAPONS.*

There are a lot of things I like about P2E. Traits are one of those. Traits help clear up misunderstandings of rules on abilities and spells, and how they interact with everything.
The free archetype alternative rule is my favourite. I let players train with masters to gain archetype feats on their free time. Brings lore and relationships to my players, and a want to do things beyond the main goal.

    • @questmarq7901
      @questmarq7901 ปีที่แล้ว

Traits cleaning was such a big oof moment for me when i first saw/read it. Like "Wow, where have they been all this time?"
For me "Free Archetype" Variant Rule is a must. For getting a free feat through training though is a bit much. I give them "Ancestry Paragon" free variant rule and im actually thinking of allowing in new character sheets to use "Dual Class".
P.S. I also want to try a new homebrew survival Hard_Magic/Low_Fantasy free roam game with starting 0 lvl PCs, and above normal encounter only rewards XP (probably the highest)

I watched a livestream yesterday where people were explaining to d&d players what Pathfinder is,
In a really basic and simplified way.
Every time they answered a question
3 people would put in a new idea they were considering
And every time they explained how something worked mechanically there were at least 5 people saying something along the lines of "How aren't more people talking about this?"
And I agree, I knew I'd like Pathfinder,
But I didn't know it'd be more exciting than 5e ever was to me.

I’m a new GM and my players and I had tried D&D 5e over the past couple years and with all the crap going on in that realm at the moment, aside from the fact I kept getting let down by their encounter building system, we decided to jump ship and are thinking about trying Pathfinder 2e. I will admit, I was a little nervous about how much more it seems to have than 5e, in terms of my players being overwhelmed and me having to learn so much, haha, but with every new thing I read, I’m like this all sounds great! Watching this has made me feel comfortable with embarking on this new journey, so thank you! :)

I just wanna touch on the proficiency topic a bit. While it is true that choosing to diversify your skillset could be the way you wanna go, it should be noted that some of the skill feats are locked until you obtain Expert, Master, and Legendary proficiency in those skills. So you are essentially trading off diversification for specialization. There are pros and cons to both options. This is a bit more complex, which is why I assume he didn't get into it too much, but it should be worth noting.

This is coming out a really good time, with the OGL for DnD 5E taking a 180° turn. Every discord i'm on is discussing moving to another system. This is literally the first information I've ever heard about Pathfinder and 8 minutes in it sounds like the same system as 5E, but some options and details added to everything.
    Also love the music.

In theory I'll be running my first PF2E game in 2023 (once we complete Abomination Vaults), always handy to go over the basics.
As for swaying, maybe try a reasonably tall stool? In theory it'd let you still pretty much stand and move naturally while giving you a stable center.

My first TTRPG campaign was in Pathfinder 1e which I didn't at the time know was different than DnD. I didn't really understand what was going on very much, but I loved my character concept soo much. I played a halfling (I think) druid who had a giant constricter snake animal companion and would wild shape into a small viper. I think I might have put more effort into my constrictors character sheet then I did my own. I loved them with all my heart, but unfortunately for various reasons the table fell apart before they were ever introduced. When I moved to 5e I was really disappointed that I wouldn't be able to recreate that build and get my snake companion (The animal companion options in 5e being a lot less customizable.) Maybe I'll buy a 2e book and see if getting the fictional snake of my dream is possible in this system.

So I started a ttrpg group and started playing in pathfinder. One of my preferred systems as it gives players and GMs so many options to be themselves. Switched to dnd 5e for the dnd beyond app during lockdown as the app showed rolls, allowed me as GM to interact with their character, etc. We are now looking to switch back, and personally... Currently still waiting for a session 0 to iron a few things out, but I have already three version of him to go off of depending on the roles the other players want to take in the kingdom before me. Just want to say awesome video, found your channel as my D&D group is finishing up 2 long-running campaigns and looking at the next for those groups (both dms and me overlap between the groups) and thinking of trying at least one of them as PF2E with some short adventures and one-shots to try it out first. Videos like this have me really excited to try it as personally I am looking for something a bit less restrictive than 5E character concept wise and from reading PF2E rules and the classes/ancestries/etc it seems to be much easier to take a concept in your head and make a workable character here than in 5E where doing so leads to some really janky 3-4 class multiclass characters that require DM buy-in to make work, hopefully it works out the way the reading makes it seem and looking forward to watching more of your videos, highly entertaining and making learning PF2E more fun than it was for me already.

I'm a little late to the party, as some life things happened that took me away from TTRPG's for a few years. When I got back, I was honestly not really interested in the system I played those years ago and wanted to try something new. It happened to coincide with that system having some crazy drama come up around it, and I figured I'd re-look at Pathfinder.
I have never been more happy that I did. This is the game I wanted. The ease of creating encounters that were interesting, magic item rules (and prices.. oh my GOD how I've missed simple prices on them), the vast array of choices and 'boss' enemies that felt like tense, dramatic encounters sold me. I think I've found my TTRPG home again.

    Great guide, thanks, Nonat.
I don't think the line at @13:50 was elitist. I like both Monopoly and Settlers of Catan for different reasons. I think it was a good way to distinguish between various RPG systems. Sometimes you want simple & fast gameplay, and other times you want to sit down and have a longer session where the pace might be a bit slower or might be a bit daunting for new players.

I think I agree with two yeard ago Nonat. Knowing this review came from someone who also thinks of Catan as Monopoly but worthwhile really helps me know I might like the same things about Pathfinder as well.

SO, few things. 1. Great video! your videos on PF2e has made me excited to actually play it. 2. I am going to be one of the ones who drop D&D for at least now. I'm just to mad at them right now to even wanna play their system. My biggest issue is my group have a hard time wanting to learn new systems. I am going to be pushing PF2e on them to hopefully get them to change over at least for a while. I love everything I've heard about it so far. It sounds so much more fun than D&D. I just hope I can get my group interested. Thanks for the videos.

I feel your pain on the fire. Had it happen three years ago and still in the hotel room since we can't afford housing or to move.

The swaying and the Mario 64 water area makes it feel like you're on a boat. XD
But also, thanks. For the welcome.
    Happy Holidays!

This video came at the right time! The group I GM for and me are trying pathfinder 2e for the first time soon. They already love the character options and I am excited to see what they come up with.

I started truly looking into PF2e a couple of weeks ago when a friend of mine offered to run some games for a few of us when we are done with raiding in FFXIV (none of us have a free day in the week aside from that lol), since he was getting frustrated with DnD 5e as a GM and a lot of us were similarly a bit frustrated and/or bored with 5e too. I had looked into PF2e but legitimately was like "the hell is all of this... nevermind this" when I looked at it for the first time.
When I sat down and properly looked into it again, I had turned on one of your videos Nonat as to how to fill in your character sheet and *everything* clicked. I was instantly excited to make a character. While I have made some basic characters to learn how to use the sheet, I am still trying to settle on what that character for the few games will be. Ancestry, class, etc. are still entirely up in the air, though I did already get some good advice on the subreddit. I have even ordered the pocket edition of the Core Rulebook now.
Anyway, I am going back into my cave trying to brainstorm that character lmao

This option paralysis is a weird idea to me. You play fighter and you attack plus kill enemies while protecting the milk drinker caster types. FIGHTERS RULE!!!
