Super rocky. This trail is no joke!
The Sunset Ridge trail is all technical and narrow singletrack with exposure. This trail is for intermediate and expert riders, and some will likely choose to dismount several sections. Watch out for poison oak when it's in season. Most of the trail is north facing with lots of shade; perfect for poison oak. There is a lot of exposure along Sunset Ridge and those not used to riding along a cliff edge should be mindful. Switchbacks are abundant and visibility is short along some sections so please use a Bell to alert other trail users. Sunset Ridge is also a popular trail amongst hikers and trail runners.
Access is generally either via climbing the paved Mt Lowe Rd via Chaney Trail in Altadena or by climbing up Lower Sam Merrill Trail at the top of Lake Ave. and crossing over via the left hand turn connector trail before the Echo Mountain Ruins.

Best trail on the front side of the mountain. Technical rock gardens mixed with fast exposed single track make for a thrilling 6-12min descent depending on skill. it only gets Five Stars because its in SoCal. Definitely Not For Beginners!
Love that trail! I go there all the time when it gets too windy or if its too wet to ride other trails 🙌

At 11:20-21 looks the worst for clipping the bar.
