BTS always leave a space for a missing member. It's their way of saying, even if one of us is missing we are still SEVEN. It's such a beautiful thing - and not something I've seen any other group do.💜
And they look so cool coming down those stairs.💜 Their look actually reminds me of some of the concept photos for Proof; especially Jimin and JK💜
They've done that walk down the stairs a number of times, from their early years. It's iconic.
It's such a thoughtful thing. If they rearranged their positions for performances, it would be a lot easier to forget that a member is missing with all of the movement and the spectacle of their shows. Leaving a space makes it so much more glaringly obvious that someone is missing and it made me miss Suga even more. I kept looking at his spot and getting sad that he wasn't there but also it was nice knowing that I wasn't alone because the guys were probably missing him the entire time too. Such a nice way to show the world that they're all important and irreplaceable. They really do put their heart into everything.
The dance break during dynamite was an homoge to MJ, they also wore recreations of outfits MJ wore in either mvs or performances. They did not do a performance for 2021 MMA due to the concert in LA
especially jimin's outfit. i recogized that one immediately.
Please try reacting to both mma and mama 2016 and 2017. They're all live with loud audience. All amazing performances by bts.
If I am correct, 2020 Korean Award Shows like MMA and MAMA didn't have crowds obviously due to CO-VID. So I think idol groups did a mix of pre-recording certain performances or parts of it, and actually going live.
In regards to this BTS performance, parts of the Black Swan section was pre-recorded and edited together hence the sudden transition between pairs of members.... and the purple dove Jin conjured up lol. The small clips of ARMYS.... that part Im not 100% certain of and I don't recall seeing it in their Bangtan Bomb vlog of the shooting. If I have to guess, it may be a case where ARMYs were reached out and ask if they could record themselves so it would be used for the performance. I know BIG HIT sometimes would ask ARMYs to participate in some stuff like that (example being the Permission to Dance challenge which was used in a special PTD video).
I don't think BTS has done another MAMA or MMA performance since 2020. Once 2021 came by, those shows started to focus more on the 4th generation of idols like STRAY KIDS, ITZY, AESPA, TXT, etc. At least from my observation of it.
Of course, any fan is free to correct me on all this.
Fun fact tho: In an interview, I think it was Michael Jackson's nephew responded to a question about if Michael would have liked BTS.
Paraphasing: "My uncle would've loved them. He would've even done a collab with them, knowing him..... He appreciated artistry and people that worked hard. And BTS has worked hard. Michael would've respected that.... would've probably know their songs. Back then, he would have the world charts so he would know what's going on in the world. So 100% he would've liked them."
I also think they didn’t attend most 2021 awards because they were preparing for & performing their PTD shows in LA. Plus they were performing TWICE for the AMAs in the US.

Army sang through "zoom" (or whatever app) at the end of V'song Inner Child. It sounded a bit messy but the feeling was definitly there. Army knows how to support BTS in every situation 💜
Jungkook had long hair a couple of times it's the iconic hair it broke the Internet every single time he showed himself 😂 he is growing it again now we are all happy 💜

2:38 This is even cooler if you know that one of the things that Jungkook and Jimin are called is "The Sun and Moon duo". It's been their nickname for many years and not only by fans but it's used in Run episodes etc. too. So the sun and moon coming together to an eclipse and then you have their part starting Black Swan performance where the "Sun" and "Moon" come together to an "eclipse".

Jimin had such a hard time not being able to perform live in front of army. They were all getting tired performing virtually . In one of online virtual concerts, Jimin kinda broke down at the end , trying to hold back tears. He lives for live performances

This was during the pandemic and they still gave their all and that was Army live through online, i'm so happy we are back to live audiences because like you said the live performances are a whole different vibe. That was an MJ influenced dance break at the end and the music was from his 1995 MTV performance. 😊💜
Me too! it makes my heart so happy to know this was just a time in their performance lives they had to endure and I bet now they appreciate the crowds more than ever!

For 2021 it's not that the MAMA and MMA were focusing more on the 4th gen or things like that, BTS is always a crowd drawer but for 2021 they couldn't make it to the event due to a previously scheduled activity. As is the rule for these awards, if they cannot be there then they cannot receive any Daesang. They did receive award for other minor awards though but was disqualified for the Daesang.

the jikook's iconic dance in the black swan intro was INCREDIBLE. i remember all the trends abt it and the legendary pics! and dancers talking about how professional they did the positions here, and also about the clean and perfect moves of jimin (i think they said these look easy, but actually not everyone can do that so well like him or someone who is so pro).💜

the black swan perf. was epic with the whole dance crew and Jimin & JK's part man so beautiful. Then JK's solo part in ON, Hobi's dance break in dynamite, then their hairstyles... they freaking killed it! and yes definitely missed the live audiences charms, claps and screams. We found it so weird, imagine BTS themselves, it would feel so empty just in front of cameras for months during COVID.
missing Yoongi was the sad part but it was so necessary for him to have the proper treatment, recovery and rest.
I love the fact that they always leave a space for him and they won't even try to cover his part - they said themselves too each of them has such different vocal/style, they can't even cover each other.
Did you spot Suga briefly in Life Goes On? They had a hologram made (very costly) so that he could, in a sense, be with them for that song. ARMY are not the only ones to miss our Suga, his bandmates do too.
Btw I’m a 78 year old I-ARMY and saw them at Wembley the night we sang Forever Young to BTS. Apart from getting lost on the way back to my hotel, it was the best night of my life. Borahae. 💜💜💜
They did several live shows during the pandemic, and it was heartbreaking for both them and ARMY, to have them performing in an empty room. During the MOTS: ONE concert, the staff arranged the wall of video screens where selected ARMY were livestreaming back to them (like a two-way zoom call.) BTS didn't know it was going to happen, and when they realized, they just were so excited and moved to tears. During all the performances they did without Suga, they always held his space open, and didn't sing over his lines (though JK did do his rap part in one song during the NYE concert that year, ending with a salute to him.) They always found a way to include Suga, carrying his photo during all their appearances. For his part, Suga was at home watching the award shows and chatting on VLive and Weverse just like ARMY. At MAMA, they even called him on stage and held the mic to the phone so he could accept the award on air. It was bittersweet and magical. Their bond is so genuine; they have always supported each other and been there for each other.
This Black Swan performance has such a special place in my heart 💜
Jungkook killed me in this performance from the black swan intro, the On bridge, dynamite intro and all the harmonies/adlibs on top of his parts 🔥🔥 incredibly stable and talented! They are great live!
Jimin is a contemporary dancer and contemporary takes from all forms of dance. So Jimin and Jk who spend alot of time together worked on the balletesque idea for the choreo on this particular dance.
I agree, as fantastic as their studio recordings are, BTS do sound better live. Which, let's be honest, is not something you can say about a lot of performers. So many sound great recorded, but live... It's like "What happened?" It can be a let down.
Not BTS though. How do they sound better live than in the studio? Well, they've said it themselves, on stage is where they love to be. Performing in front of people. The extra energy and emotion that gives them really shows. They put their all into live performances, almost to the point of collapse; because that is where their hearts live.💜💜💜
Also live, you tend to get a hint of a Rock edge from Jimin at times, which is so cool. I wonder if he'll do a more Rock style song on his solo album. That would be something 💜
I completely agree with this whole comment! Theres been so many bands ive seen live that im like.... wait... what happened to that sounds on the recording!? bts has been the exact opposite on that, they really crush every single live show not only vocally which is most important to me but also as performers.
@Leah Warburton On vibe and action alone V gives off the rocker feel and Jimin gives the flowy, soft vibe but it's the complete opposite. V is more bluesy, jazzy. I can't quite pin Jimin down...maybe a mix? It'll be fun to watch where each of them land

They are live vocal kings. I’m 51 and have seen concerts from The Beach Boys to Janet Jackson to Alan Jackson and everyone in between. I’ve seen bts live 3x and no one compares. The audience is a huge factor. Bts and Army feed off of one another. It is a true symbiotic relationship. Even though this wasnt performed in front of a live audience, their vocals were obviously live.
I love that you give us little daughter- dad stories that involves BTS its sooo wholesome 💜 please don't stop sharing them with us. I have a daughter that will try to do anything and compete with me in whos the better ARMY the better fan, that she convinced her dad to take her to the Proof BTS pop up store in LA with out Me!! lol She bought a shirt wore it and I came home from work and my mouth just dropped to the floor. Thanks. This MMA for me was most memorable because of pas de deux with Jimin and Jungkook. It’s unprecedented between two male dancers. It’ was remarkable and most beautiful.

They've expressed several times that the pandemic really hit them hard mentally and when you watch a performance like this one you can clearly see why. It just isn't the same without an audience. That being said they're one of only a very few groups where I totally agree with you that they're so much better live. Especially Jin and J-Hope tend to sound very different from the studio recordings imo.
(Btw, ironically, the one song you just said they wrote (Dynamite) is actually not one of their own at all but it served it's purpose: To promote them in the US and to cheer up ARMY during the pandemic.)

It’s not live since you know, covid but it’s not online either. Keep in mind it wasn’t for a concert, but an award show. All these performances were pre-recorded and then sent to “MMA” so they can edit it together and post it. It is weird not having a crowd, live or online.
The Black Swan Orchestra version performance is ICONIC IN EVERY WAY YOU CAN’T CHANGE MY MIND. The dynamite dance break too, it’s almost like a tribute to Michael Jackson in a way too. Lol it’s the best thing ever.
Black swan isn’t really ballet but contemporary dance. But Jimin does have experience in both, hence his solo with black swan. It’s also why they danced barefoot in the dance practice video.
There have been MMA performances in the past too, like 2016 (IM SORRY BUT THAT BOY MEETS EVIL PERFORMANCE IS BEAUTIFUL) and 2017, etc. There was no MMA 2021 performance by BTS. They took a small break from the world to spend time with their families (they hadn’t done that since debut so they needed it) so they didn’t perform for that year. We’re also I sure if this year they’ll do it because of their solo work break. I mean we’re getting a concert in October so they might come together at the end of the year so I don’t know.

BTS stopped doing online shows. Performing without a live audience was taking a toll on the members’ mental health. Breaks my heart💔

Dynamite wasn't written or produced by the Members, which Namjoon pointed out during Festa Dinner 2022 as a reason for the growing disconnect between himself and the reasons for BTS in the global stage. Songwriters were David Stewart & Jessica Agombar, Producer was also David Stewart.
This is one of THE most iconic dance breaks of all time!. The love & admiration our boys have for Michael makes me cry every single time I see this. Black Swan was breathtaking, ON was awesome & Life Goes On was beautiful. But Dynamite was my favorite hands down. Once the lights went down I was like 'I am not ready sir!'. And their outfits are recreations of MJ's legendary outfits which also blows my mind. Is there anything they CAN'T do?!... Nope!. These are the references for their outfits:

The visual, with Army Bombs, is why I wanted to pursue light design out of high school. Of course there was no BTS then, Don't think they were even born yet, but that visual you get is like another show.
All of the 2020 award shows were sans audience. Sucks they had no fan interactions & fanchants like past shows. Must’ve been so heart breaking for them. They’ve said previously how not seeing army in person weighed heavy on them & they didn’t feel like they were giving their all, but they are still the most incredible performers I have ever seen.
When JK lifts Jimin in black swan my jaw dropped. Them leaving space for Suga at the opening & ending of ON broke my heart. Tae’s voice in LGO was beautiful, plus could he look more like a freakin prince?! The song during the graphics section was We Are Bulletproof: the Eternal. Have you reacted to that yet? It was a song gifted to Army during Festa 2020. It’s one of my faves & the mv is animated. I can’t NOT tear up listening to it. And the Dynamite performance…the dance break. “Are you f-ing kidding me” I believe were the words that came out of my mouth when I first saw it. You HAVE to react to the dance practice for it. The sound of their boots stomping in synchronization is the best thing ever.
FYI if you ever want to catch an award show live when you’re in the US, be prepared. It’s in the middle of the night here, lasts for 3.5-5 hrs, & there’s lots of “BTS up next/coming soon”. Grammys aren’t the only culprits to use that line.

@@JohnReavesLive the final 2018 speech is after their performance. Tae had dyed is hair red that day & you can see the “red” sweat dripping down the side of his face. Namjoon does his best to wipe it a little. But you can really see how hard they ALWAYS work.

This wasn't a live concert because it was 2020 during the Pandemic. Artists recorded their performances and sent them in to be aired.
I love this performance so much . It’s visually stunning in every way. I also love how they included ARMY with the video screens as they couldn’t have a live audience due to COVID restrictions. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a group so tight that they didn’t change anything to cover Suga’s absence. They made a point of including him so that you felt his presence. At the end of ON when they linked arms around his empty space, I just cried. Who other then BTS would show such love to their brother! They taped many performances finding really creative ways to keep him with them wether by holding his photo and even have a hologram of him.

Jimin did ballet training, contemporary, modern dance, hip hop, and some other dances as well. He did the hip hop training first then the contemporary and modern dance. Because of his contemporary and modern dance training changed how he moved in the hip hop and K-pop movement, he almost got kicked out of BigHits 8 times. The day before his debut, they were considering to let him go but after talking to V they decided to keep him. How lucky for us as well as BitHits for letting him stay. They would not be the group they are today without him. They are all very talented and would have done well no matter what they did. Jimin was well trained in dance but had no training in vocals. He did sing karaoke and his dad said he could hit those high notes even then (natural talent). He only trained 6-9 months with BitHits before he debut but still no training in vocals. He asked J-Hope and J-Kook if he could listen in on their training. He would go practice what he heard in their sessions and even without training he still made lead singer. He often got criticized in his singing but he often got the hardest parts in singing and dancing which is very hard to do according to the experts. I am no singer or dancer so I am only going by what I read.

Touching on your point of how bittersweet it must’ve been for them to perform for no audience, they said they stopped the online concerts bc it had a huge mental tool on them. It was nice giving us something but it made them sad, it really negatively impacted them. I think specially bc they were in the middle of preparation for their world tour for MOTS: 7 when they got the news about having to postpone/cancel
As it was in the midst of the pandemic, MMA was aired as a pre-recorded event. Big Hit ( and the other companies) recorded and post-produced their groups' performances and MMA then put it all together and aired it.

Those fans in each square boxes are the on-line audiences watching an on-line live performance. They've done a couple of full on-line concerts during the pandemic since they couldn't travel. Of course they were so creative with on-line concerts and millions of people from all over the world watched them together.
With the song, Dynamite, not only they tribute to MJ choreo but also Jimin & J-Hope are actually wearing same looking outfits as MJ's.

Yes John MJ is a big influence to BTS. He was their idol growing up. Oh did you notice Jimin wearing the white strip on he's arm, just like MJ did.The whole performance was amazing, but yes Suga missing was so different. It was not the same for me either. Jimin and Jk duet during the Black Swan perf is legendary. It was mindblowing to see it for the first time ! They did so well, Jimin moves are pure perfection, he really is the black swan .
Also if you dont notice, the white stairs during ON intro is the same than in the N.O MV, and the music when they come down is the intro of NO. The 2 songs are somehow related (NO /ON) (same for SAVE ME/ I'M FINE)
I love this MMA 2020 (and the MAMA 2020) , all the BTS on line performances/ shows/concerts, and the BE Album release help me a lot during the 2 years of pandemic, specially lock down periods, but it's also a curious mixed feelings, comfort for me, sadness for them, seing them deprived of what they like the most, performed in front of Army, knowing how much they need this exchange of energy and joy , and how much they long for this. I'm so happy they can performed on in-person concert for PTD and are able to made their come back in a live show with Yet to come, (even if they can just performed 2 songs) . I think they want to do this just in order to see K Army and hear their cheers (witch was not possible during PTD concert in Seoul ) , the last time all together for some months...

I managed to see the Dynamite reaction video, before it got blocked. It was great, and your reaction to the Tiny Tans was so fun to see - they are so adorable. It's a shame TH-cam decided to block it.💜

There's definitely no rush whatsoever, but when you finish watching all their MVs, I hope you'll react to their "We are Bulletproof: the Eternal" (2020 Festa) MV. It's a very beautiful and meaningful song about BTS' journey (no further spoilers than that), and I tear up every time I hear it 💜 The lyrics themselves are so emotional, but paired with the special MV, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised 💜

Since Magic Shop only has the lyric and live videos with nothing much else to go with it, we're adding "We are Bulletproof: the Eternal" (2020 Festa) MV + the lyric video, live performance, and explanation to the schedule for next week to go along with the Magic Shop reaction.
I noticed that they left a space for Suga even though he was not there they always left a space open for him which I find extremely sweet.

About 4 months before this performance and the MAMA performance for 2020, I read that HYBE had bought or invested in a company that was developing hologram technology. The idea was maybe doing holographic performances while BTS was serving their mandatory military service, since they had pre-recorded songs for release during their military service. (This was before the law had changed of course, and before they might be able to serve as diplomats instead of soldiers) but they used the hologram technology extensively in their award show appearances in 2020.
This mma was done virtually from December 2 through December 5, 2020 due to covid
My absolute favorite performance is THIS black swan performance. It kills me Everytime I see it I have tears in my eyes. I think it’s a dancer thing 🥰 I love it.
I agree with you 100! Life goes on hits so much. So a beautifully written song. It helped me through the pandemic, more than that, these lyrics are just sooo good....

If I am not wrong, They don't perform in MMA and MAMA 2021 because of Covid 19. They were busy and was attending AMA in USA (and win) then have PTD concert in USA. When the time for them to go back to Korea to attend MMA and MAMA, covid was getting worse in Korea that the rule change that everybody who just come from overseas has to isolate for 1 week or few days, hence BTS could not attend the MMA and MAMA because of this changes.
I respect you so much more since you figured out on your own that the space was for Suga babe.
Agree BTS with no crowd is definitely bittersweet no matter how happy the song they perform might be... A crowd, Army, That's what fuels them!!
That's why their performance of 'For Youth' on Mcountdown about a month ago was so special and emotional!
It was the 1st time they performed since the beginning of the pandemic (in 2 years) in front of Korean ARMY without restrictions and also one of the last time for a long time (due to their "hiatus", which the audience didn't know at the time)+ the song is a farewell/thank note/ love letter to everyone who's been around for them containing a sample from one of their most emotional performance.... which the audience recreated live....
The members were emotional, the audience, me in front of my screen... i almost never cry but there I did!
All this to say! Yes BTS=ARMY, it's a unique synergy and it was likely frustrating for them too not being able to perform in front of people!

This was in 2020, so no crowds due to Covid. BTS chose to put videos of ARMY on the stage with them during "Life Goes On" so that ARMY was still with them, even if no one could be there in person. Oh, and did you notice that they were dancing in water during the Black Swan performance? One of the Christmas performances they did for this year had a snowman taking Suga's place. Suga was watching them just like ARMY and he hadn't know they were going to have a snowman Sunga, complete with headset mic. He actually went live to talk about it after the performance. Something about, "They made me a snowman?!" was the title of the live.
Someone should suggest the best fancam of the LA or Vegas concerts for you to react to. We are perfectly fine with a three hour reaction!! 😍

I think they didn't perform at the MMA and MAMA 2021 bcoz they were having a busy schedule that time... And that was the time when they had their 4-day PTD LA concert... And it was their first offline concert since the pandemic... But during the pandemic, they still held multiple online concerts... Loved ur reactions... BORAHAE 💜💜💜
I see you reacted to all the MMAs, you should know that there are 2 biggest award shows MÁS and MAMAs awars, they are both huge and both just 1 week again. So BTS prepares 2 huge performances with 2/3songs same in both shows(sometimes 1 of them different) and both shows are completely different and unique. How they do it, still a mystery to me. However you should definitely check out for the MAMAs of the same years 2018-2020

Suga!!! Just doesn’t look right with only 6 performing. Loved how they left his recording in the songs. And how they started in separate rooms in Life Goes On but came together to finish.

6:44 this is what I’m talking about with jungkooks live ad libs… he’s someone who LOVES to play around with adlibs for live performances and he def does this so much but like you notice here he wasn’t even on screen lol so some may just not register that it was jungkook… but he does so many vocal and rap adlibs live… it’s one of my favorite things. It’s funny watching behind the scenes you hear the other members rap and vocal asking for jk to do adlibs during one of their parts specifically lol they ask but he also just does it bc he feels it… but some of my favorite rap ad libs I found out we’re actually jk and not rm or yoongi lol it’s wild … and yeh honestly jimins little growl during live performances for specific sounds is def a fan favorite for sure lol tae and yoongi do it as well band yeh it’s def army fave for sure!!!! They all sound way better live imo for sure! It’s why I always hope people check them out live… they’re so so good !!

Have you watched their Grammy performance it was great giving the circumstances they had to work around . Jin had a surgery and was recommended not to preform with them then jhope and jungkook both had COVID and stayed at home to recover and they had to practice with only four of them and when they get to amarica they found that the stage is way smaller than they thought it is so they had to repractice their performance .it was intense man

If you haven’t already, watch the MAMA’S 2020…they holographically add Suga. In my opinion, BTS has the MOST creative staff in the business. They’ve paved the way for other groups, but BTS is a completely different entity on an entirely different level. Their sets, clothes, attitude, work ethic…the list goes on…all of the reasons why they could outlast the belief that “in the world of boybands, turning 30 is something different in K-pop" (RM dishing the hard realities of aging as an idol in the K-pop industry).
2016 MAMA is my personal fav! It was the first year they won a Daesang so it feels extra special. You should check it out 😊
20:04 First, yes as you figured out it was during covid so no audience but about ít affecting them and them missing Army; oh yes, you should have seen Jimin at the end of their second online concert they had when they all said their ending comments they were surrounded by screens showing Army watching them live and Jimin just broke down and cried so much. You could see how it just hit him.
They kinda laughed about it right after but right then and there... oh man. 💔
