    Easy to understand, no nonsense, no filler. That's a sensation on TH-cam :)
    Thanks Bob!

    I have finally understood grain direction thank you. Brilliant explanation.

    The best video that I have seen so far, as a newbie to this topic.

    Thank you, I finally understand after countless times wondering what people mean :D

    Thanks - makes a lot more sense the way you explain it, than the video I watched just before this one, where the guy was rushing through things and throwing out terms like "petting the cat" without saying what the hell that actually meant, just so he could squeeze everything into a two-minute slot!

    Great explanations! The cat dog reference
    is spot on. Thank you!

      Yes, identifying grain direction is vital to carving.

    You cleared up something for me. I think I am dealing with wood going both directions!

      Great! Yes, some wood has no "good" direction for planing.

      sometimes running your finger along in both directions can help. you'll usually feel one way is rougher than the other. i learned pretty quickly after working on a slab with a lot of reversing grain. that was good times (not really). but definitely wont forget it 😅

      @@ConfiscatedZyra I will try that! I have been easily finding out the hard way- actually planing both sides 😄

    Hey Bob, I had a question about this video but wanted to see if you we're still checking comments for this one first

      @@BobsWoodStuff Cool, I'm gonna try typing this out best I can and hopefully it makes sense. So, around :40 second mark, you draw the lines with the sharpie from right to left, and I've seen a lot of others doing similar things going with the lines of the grain, but I am confused on how you're getting to that point. Meaning, how do you know that those lines are not actually going "left to right" instead? I can't figure that part out. Hopefully that makes sense. Another example would be around :20 seconds, the way that you are holding that wood, how do you know it's not supposed to be the other way, with the flat part on bottom?

    • @BobsWoodStuff
      @BobsWoodStuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adamthewoodworker2571 The grain line goes through to both edges of the board, so I could have continued each line all the way through, but I chose to only draw it on the edge I am planing. It could be planed with either part on the bottom, and often I will plane all sides of a piece of wood. The important thing is to plane each individual face in the right direction.
      I hope that helps.

    I like the cat analogy.

    I can't help but notice you sort of had your planer at an angle?

    • @BobsWoodStuff
      @BobsWoodStuff  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, when using the hand plane it should be skewed. This gives it a better slicing motion.
