I was so disappointed after I got born again. I could not wait to go to my local church and do whatever was needed. I was on fire for Christ! When I volunteered, I got assigned to backstage production due to my computer skills. I would put up the captions for the songs and for the sermon. We ran two sermons and often I would do both. In between the sermons, the leadership team would pass me notes from the pastor with things changed like jokes, etc and notes like "Not enough laughs, swap out" or "did not get enough Amens, use another scripture". I tried several times to talk to the pastor but couldnt' get any appointments or past his bodyguard (it was a MEGA church). I soon began to realize it was all just a showbiz production...off broadway. The music group were all paid handsomely to come sing and were basically musicians who needed work but couldn't care less about the words coming from their mouths. It really hit me hard and I almost lost my faith after leaving that church. I'm now in a small country church with a good pastor. They barely make ends meet and we pitch in when we can. From the outside and by the world's standards...you might feel pity for that little church or feel that it is a failure. I am here to tell you that little church holds a dear place in Christ's heart and the many people who keep it going will be rewarded. We may not have a starbucks in the lobby, but we've got the Holy Spirit in the aisles.
We have been through that, too, and gave so much of ourselves to what we thought was serving the Lord. We have inadvertently been a part of progressive, seeker-sensitive, and prosperity gospel churches and unfortunately, have not been in church in two years. The meanest women I've ever met are "church women." I hope we can find a church home that isn't compromised.

I went to a mega church in Lake Forest california.. I was already saved and I was able to serve. I used to beg the pastor to teach us just one book of the Bible verse by verse. He never did that. He just chose a topic and would pull scriptures out of context to make it fit. I belong to a smaller church now and that's what our pastors do, teach us the Bible verse by verse and I'm growing so much

Im 52 yrs old and im a new Christian and even I know these people do not read their Bibles. None of them fear GOD at all. Its obvious they dont have the Holy Spirit because if they did they wouldn’t be saying these things. We need to continue praying for all of them

My former pastor used to play clips from Bill Johnson's sermons and then we were to discuss them (and how great they were and how we should be like them, yada yada). This was supposed to be our bible study! People in our church were eating it up like candy. I sat there silent-just a baby Christian, yet I knew something was seriously wrong. When I later confronted him about the fanaticism on always focusing on manifestations (and nothing else), he brought his elders out and they told me I was full of demons. One elder said (about the pastor).." I would take a bullet for this man." I looked at him in horror and was so dumbstruck that I could not reply. Now, he's got all his cronies as elders and one of them is extremely rich and is paying to keep the church open-since so many people have left. The saddest thing is that once people are hurt by churches, they often get disillusioned and mix up the hurt with Jesus...you know what I mean. I actually said this to the pastor and you know what? I used to watch Steven Furtick a lot especially when I was struggling with anxiety. Helped me at the time but he is a feel good pastor…he says things you want to hear. The ONLY way that I got out of major anxiety and depression was from reading the Bible myself and learning about God and finding a Church that speaks the truth.
Listening to this, Jordan, it certainly sounds like this is an American creation---me, me, gimme, no problems only blessings. But then I wondered...did these wolves spring up because so many American churches are looking for the "American dream" of wealth and plenty, or did American churches become compromised because of these wolves' "American dream of unhindered plenty" messages? We are such a spoiled bunch---many American Christians, that is. It struck me hard the other day, while scrolling through Facebook, that while churches in China are in hiding, Christians in other countries are dying for their faith, Israelis are at war, and the world seems to be going haywire, so many churches over here are using their rapidly waning freedoms and liberties to gear up for celebrating their Christianized Halloween instead. There seems to be, in the majority of American churches, no crying out for His mercy on this spoiled nation...no fervent prayer and beseeching on bended knees. No bended knees, period. Years ago, I watched Osteen for a short time, even though I was already a mature Christian. Then I noticed something that I found really disturbing.........I never heard him mention Jesus' name in his sermons. How do you avoid using Jesus own name in a Christian church? I immediately stopped watching him. But, when you look at the vast audience in his church, you realize that so many people are being misled at a time when the Christian population shrinks in a post-Christian era. At the very time when we most need a solid Bible-believing, Christ-centered Christian church in America, we have all of these false teachers leading people astray. We are in the end times. It may seem like something trivial to many, but when I learned that Russia was actually supplying Hamas with weapons through Iran, I knew that just one more sign of the end times was revealed. The Rapture is soon. These people in these churches are going to learn a terrible reality.

@jonyoung6405 Hi Jon! Well, I live in a small town. Mormon dominated, but there are other denominations, 7th Day, Catholic. There are a few more nondenominational. I gave up on them. They are all very soft teachings. This does not mean they are wolves, but I can attest to the fact that it is more like a good ol' boys club of pastors. Disheartening, however, I have several pastors (online) that I follow and can communicate with them. I want to hear the truth about sin, repentance, and salvation, from pastors who are not afraid to ruffle the feathers... Jesus taught it. It's not quite happening here. Thank you Jordan Riley…I am in Alabama where many are deceived by COTH and Chris Hodges. They even have a college and have 40 plus campuses statewide and that pastor is on their screens at each “church.” I have been to one service years ago and felt so empty and sad when I left.
A friend of mine who lives in Alabama near that area posted news articles earlier this year that leaders in this church arrested for physical and sexual assault. Along with the false teaching is criminal activity.

Two things: Mike Todd, Todd White and Jesse Duplantis should be added. Second. Jesus referred to tithing in Matthew only because they were still under the law. He had not yet died and resurrected. So they were still under the law.
You need to read Matt. 5:17-20. Yeshua (to give Him His correct Hebrew name) filled the Law. The Law is still in force! It has not been "done away with" like the false "grace only" churches preach.

One more point to make is I don’t believe in tithing, I was taught that you can donate to the church if you can afford to just to keep the doors open. My papa was the preacher and never took one cent for being the pastor. He had a business outside of the church to feed his family. He’s the one who built the church when God called him to preach.

These schools were all tuition schools and my crop-picking parents struggled simply putting food on the table for our family of seven and certainly couldn't afford to send us to tuition schools, so.....we all walked a full two miles past ALL of these schools every day, sometimes with a foot of snow on the ground, to a one room school house where one teacher struggled to teach 25 or so students of grades 1 through 7, a variety of subjects. As a result, my English suffered and plauged me all the way into college, where I finally 'buckled down' and got it. This was the only time in my life when my folks didn't attend some kind of church, dragging we five siblings along, kicking and screaming. That said.....Over 2500 religions do exist today....take your pick as one is just as good as is another.....including Jehovah's Witlesses....which my ex SIL is one and I've attended a few 'sessions' with her just out of sheer curiosity. My firm belief is RELIGION and IGNORANCE dovetail and do truly DO coexist together. Ever see a bon a fide UFO? I've had four encounters within my lifetime and have attended the McMenamins UFO Conference three times within the last five years, even though for me it is a 1700 mile drive round trip. There I've met and chatted with many others with similar experiences. Full UFO disclosure has been withheld for decades out of fear of 'upsetting the religious', but cannot be withheld forever, so, may I firmly suggest....EMBRACE yourself. Over 400 billion stars exist within our home galaxy, the Milky Way. The Hubble 'Deep Field' photos of the late 90's revealed we reside within a two trillion galaxy universe. The tithe was for Israel and Old Testament times when there was a temple and they had priests. We have none of those and we are not Israel so the tithe does not apply to the new testament church. This is just horrible biblical teaching

Yes some things these churches do are stretching it and not biblical but we cannot deny some people are being brought to Christ through these churches. Rather than judging them doesn’t the Bible say to leave that to God? I totally agree on John Hagee’s Cornerstone Church as one of the 10 worst churches. I went there when I first got stationed in San Antonio and the atmosphere of the church just felt downright hostile, despite some friendly ushers. Hagee has a very cruel, vicious, and vindictive streak. I went there maybe 3 times in 1997 and kept giving him the benefit of the doubt because he really was spot on in some areas. But when he tells people to hold up their tithes and offerings before passing the offering plate and declaring anybody not giving their tithes and offerings as a thief in the eyes of God, that was it and I decided to stop going there!

I went to Elevation University Campus, Charlotte North Carolina a few years back. Pastor Furtick preached that morning and i remember he SO eloquently justified his purchase of a million dollar mansion. I can honestly say his way with words was extremely hypnotic.
The other worst churches here in America we can't forget about are Regeneration Nashville Church run by Kent Christmas, Global Vision Bible Church run by Greg Locke, Eagle Mountain Church run by Kenneth Copeland, and then lastly Life Tabernacle Church run by Tony Spell. The Osteens you've mentioned are absolutely spineless jellyfish. We need to take their mega churches and convert them into theatres and convention centers! My former pastor used to play clips from Bill Johnson's sermons and then we were to discuss them (and how great they were and how we should be like them, yada yada). This was supposed to be our bible study! People in our church were eating it up like candy. I sat there silent-just a baby Christian, yet I knew something was seriously wrong. When I later confronted him about the fanaticism on always focusing on manifestations (and nothing else), he brought his elders out and they told me I was full of demons. One elder said (about the pastor).." I would take a bullet for this man." I looked at him in horror and was so dumbstruck that I could not reply. Now, he's got all his cronies as elders and one of them is extremely rich and is paying to keep the church open-since so many people have left. The saddest thing is that once people are hurt by churches, they often get disillusioned and mix up the hurt with Jesus...you know what I mean. I actually said this to the pastor and you know what? He didn't care. God bless you for doing these videos and speaking out. I am subscribing now.

I used to watch Steven Furtick a lot especially when I was struggling with anxiety. Helped me at the time but he is a feel good pastor…he says things you want to hear. The ONLY way that I got out of major anxiety and depression was from reading the Bible myself and learning about God and finding a Church that speaks the truth.

Listening to this, Jordan, it certainly sounds like this is an American creation---me, me, gimme, no problems only blessings. But then I wondered...did these wolves spring up because so many American churches are looking for the "American dream" of wealth and plenty, or did American churches become compromised because of these wolves' "American dream of unhindered plenty" messages? We are such a spoiled bunch---many American Christians, that is. It struck me hard the other day, while scrolling through Facebook, that while churches in China are in hiding, Christians in other countries are dying for their faith, Israelis are at war, and the world seems to be going haywire, so many churches over here are using their rapidly waning freedoms and liberties to gear up for celebrating their Christianized Halloween instead. There seems to be, in the majority of American churches, no crying out for His mercy on this spoiled nation...no fervent prayer and beseeching on bended knees. No bended knees, period. Years ago, I watched Osteen for a short time, even though I was already a mature Christian. Then I noticed something that I found really disturbing.........I never heard him mention Jesus' name in his sermons. How do you avoid using Jesus own name in a Christian church? I immediately stopped watching him. But, when you look at the vast audience in his church, you realize that so many people are being misled at a time when the Christian population shrinks in a post-Christian era. At the very time when we most need a solid Bible-believing, Christ-centered Christian church in America, we have all of these false teachers leading people astray. We are in the end times. It may seem like something trivial to many, but when I learned that Russia was actually supplying Hamas with weapons through Iran, I knew that just one more sign of the end times was revealed. The Rapture is soon. These people in these churches are going to learn a terrible reality.

They are all very soft teachings. This does not mean they are wolves, but I can attest to the fact that it is more like a good ol' boys club of pastors. Disheartening, however, I have several pastors (online) that I follow and can communicate with them. I want to hear the truth about sin, repentance, and salvation, from pastors who are not afraid to ruffle the feathers... Jesus taught it. It's not quite happening here. A friend of mine who lives in Alabama near that area posted news articles earlier this year that leaders in this church arrested for physical and sexual assault. Along with the false teaching is criminal activity.

One more point to make is I don’t believe in tithing, I was taught that you can donate to the church if you can afford to just to keep the doors open. My papa was the preacher and never took one cent for being the pastor. He had a business outside of the church to feed his family. He’s the one who built the church when God called him to preach.

These schools were all tuition schools and my crop-picking parents struggled simply putting food on the table for our family of seven and certainly couldn't afford to send us to tuition schools, so.....we all walked a full two miles past ALL of these schools every day, sometimes with a foot of snow on the ground, to a one room school house where one teacher struggled to teach 25 or so students of grades 1 through 7, a variety of subjects. As a result, my English suffered and plauged me all the way into college, where I finally 'buckled down' and got it.
This was the only time in my life when my folks didn't attend some kind of church, dragging we five siblings along, kicking and screaming.
That said.....Over 2500 religions do exist today....take your pick as one is just as good as is another.....including Jehovah's Witlesses....which my ex SIL is one and I've attended a few 'sessions' with her just out of sheer curiosity.
My firm belief is RELIGION and IGNORANCE dovetail and do truly DO coexist together.

The tithe was for Israel and Old Testament times when there was a temple and they had priests. We have none of those and we are not Israel so the tithe does not apply to the new testament church.

I totally agree on John Hagee’s Cornerstone Church as one of the 10 worst churches. I went there when I first got stationed in San Antonio and the atmosphere of the church just felt downright hostile, despite some friendly ushers. Hagee has a very cruel, vicious, and vindictive streak.
I went there maybe 3 times in 1997 and kept giving him the benefit of the doubt because he really was spot on in some areas. But when he tells people to hold up their tithes and offerings before passing the offering plate and declaring anybody not giving their tithes and offerings as a thief in the eyes of God, that was it and I decided to stop going there!

Big News!!!! God doesn't need our money. He is the Creator of the universe. He spoke this earth into excistense. He never asked for all our money, He simply asked us to follow Him with our whole hearts. Also the 10% was mentioned as the first fruits of our harvest to be given back to Him. I went to Elevation University Campus, Charlotte North Carolina a few years back. Pastor Furtick preached that morning and i remember he SO eloquently justified his purchase of a million dollar mansion. I can honestly say his way with words was extremely hypnotic.
The first time I ever heard of Steven Furtick on the internet, I knew immediately he was into New Age mentality. Won't listen to him.

Furtive looks like a thug ,I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him .
I went to elevation “church” years ago but my eyes were opened!!! Please stay far away from that church and the heresy of Furtick!!!
The real story is nothing like the way it was presented by the secular press.

The other worst churches here in America we can't forget about are Regeneration Nashville Church run by Kent Christmas, Global Vision Bible Church run by Greg Locke, Eagle Mountain Church run by Kenneth Copeland, and then lastly Life Tabernacle Church run by Tony Spell. The Osteens you've mentioned are absolutely spineless jellyfish. We need to take their mega churches and convert them into theatres and convention centers! Props to you Jordan Riley and once again glory to God!

I started to listen to Kent Christmas once on you tube and could not get through the video because he reminded me to much of Robert Tilton.
He is nothing like Robert Tilton, I know Kent Christmas and he is truly an awesome man of God. I would be careful speaking against this man of God. I know you will not receive this but you have been warned.
