Hi guys! Hope you enjoyed todays video and getting to see a little bit more of the new rats! If you have any tips for new rat owners on what to do or expect when bringing home new rats that I haven't mentioned, feel free to reply to this! 🏠
So, I'm getting my very first pair of rats this weekend. I've had hamsters before I guess I have an idea of what it's like to take care of a rodent? My question is, I have a hamster cage and a rat cage. But the rat cage is 3 levels and the soace between the bars seems too wide for a baby. Is it okay to put my baby rats in the hamster cage? The hamster cage has a plastic bottom, although my hamsters have tried and are never able to get through it, some people still say it's possible. And that's what I'm worried about
It depends how big the hamster cage is. Some people will put them in a slightly smaller cage first until they grow big enough that they wont fit through the bars, this can also help with bonding with them because they're not in a big huge cage that can cause them to become overwhelmed, as long as the cage isn't tiny, as baby rats have a lot of energy! Another option, although quite time consuming, is to chicken wire the whole of the cage until they're big enough that they can't squeeze through it anymore :)
Th first rat I ever had, I got when I was 12. I tucked her in my sweater's collar and walked around with her for a day. She just fell asleep. We were best friends from that moment forward.
Got my rats yesterday, one already wanted my attention, but the other was very skittish. Did the taming tricks you mentioned and now the skittish one loves everyone!! Thank you so much for making this video!!
Mine switched attitudes lol. Had one terrified of me and one curious about me. Now the terrified one always show me affection and the curious one snobs me
i got my first rats recently. One of my babies, immediately wanted me to hold them. Such a clinger, the one is still a little shy but is now taking food from my hand i feel the love.
rat experts: when you get your rats, leave them alone for a two days so they adjust to their new home. i know, it's hard... me before getting my rats: pssh! it won't be hard! those two days will be over in a flash! me after getting my rats: _all i want to do is hug you_
I have wanted to be a rat mama for TEN YEARS and I FINALLY am bringing home three baby boys from a local breeder in exactly 48 hours! (Parents wouldn’t allow pets and then my living situation for a few years after high school just wasn’t the right setup to have rats). I’m emotional even just typing this haha, I am so beyond over-the-moon excited to meet them and spoil them and watch them grow! I can’t believe I’m finally able to utilize my years of research hahaha I’m just so happy x
@@ManWithTheCow Omg hello! Wow, I commented that in May ‘21 so it’s been almost 16 months since then! Honestly, can I get deep here? lol. I absolutely adore my rats. They are such sweet little boys and they each have their own unique, funny personalities. Here’s the thing. I anticipated needing veterinary care for them; I even brought all 3 of them in just to have their very first checkup. I really wish that was the only time we needed the vet. The unfortunate reality is that rats are extremely prone to upper respiratory infections and I did not fully understand that until I got my own rats. I also entirely underestimated how the loss of them would affect me emotionally. Basically, after having them for a couple of months they all began to show symptoms of URIs. Back to the vet, no problem. Got some oral antibiotics for them and went on our way. The antibiotics would help for a little while and then the symptoms would return- sneezing, loud snuffling when they were up and active, occasional discharge from the eyes and nose. In January ‘22, I noticed one of my rats was breathing hard and he was just laying down. Emergency vet. Decided to end his suffering. God, I start crying when I think about that night, just awful. I feel so guilty for not being more proactive about medicating them. I misunderstood the vet saying “they’ll have this URI for the rest of their life, it’s really common” and took it as “They’re always going to be symptomatic.” My rat’s condition wasn’t improving and I thought that was normal. Lesson learned. I still have the other two boys though and I am VERY thorough in their health care. Humidifier next to the cage, daily nebulizing with saline, baytril and doxycycline twice a day. It’s a lot and for a long time after my one little guy passed, I wasn’t as close with the other two. They reminded me of him. I totally wrote a novel here but I hope people will read this and learn from my mistakes. Rats are wonderful animals. They can certainly be quite a lot of work to keep healthy. Losing them, tiny as they may be, can be much more painful than one might expect. I think once my two little boys pass on, I’m going to go on hiatus from being a Rat Mom. I’d love to raise more rats in the future, but I don’t see myself rushing into getting babies again. I’d consider adopting adults, actually. Thank you very much for asking, sorry again for the novel, and have an awesome day 😀
@@claudiah.2935 no need to apologize!! I’m so sorry about your little guy. Thank you for sharing, I will make sure to be very careful looking after possible respiratory issues 💕I’m gonna be getting two females sometime soon :)
An idea that i found to be useful when i had rats was to take a handful of (used) bedding from their old place and sprinkle it above the bedding in their new cage, so it smells a bit like home to them. Aswell as putting a small amount of it in the carrier on the trip to their new home. It can help tremendously for them to have something smelling familiar to ease the stress of transition to the new environment. If their main food mix at their former place was different (brandwise or selfmade) from yours then it's also wise to take a handful or 2 of this and mix it with the new food for the first few days and then fade it out. In addition, their favorite toy is nice to take with you, if the person you get them from is ok with that, and put into the cage with them, best in front of a hideout. I think you are doing fantastic and your sweet new boys seem to settle in splendidly. :) I wish you all the best and a long healthy time with your babies! And good luck for the next step of introducing them to Rolo (hope I spelled that right ^^')! Greetings from Berlin
Hey can you help me? I really didnt understand the part in the beginning. The part were you have to take them in a different room because of illness or something? I really didnt understand that. And may i know where you come from? If we live in the same country i can maybe go a good farmer you know? Since it looks like you know a lot about rats! I want to get my first 2 rats but i want to prepare myself so yeah... 😂🤷🏽♀️🌸
I’m definitely doing this, I’m getting them from a breeder and luckily for me the breeder has food she feeds them for sale and I’ll pick some up from her when I pick them up in a week Thank you so much for the tip!
I got 2 rats a couple months ago. I am in love. They came from separate places so I was nervous about introducing them but it went surprisingly well. I have a hairless and a hooded. I am addicted to your channel!
As a breeder I find that a lot of people prefer getting their rats from me as all my babies are used to being handled, unfortunately pet shops don't have the time to handle baby rats everyday. Oh and a little fact about rats, every day I meet people who I don't like very much...I've yet to meet a rat I don't instantly fall in love with! 🤭💖🐀 Thanks for the great video. 🥰
I just got two rats today. Someone was going to throw them in the dumpster. So my friend grabbed them and gave me them. I already have 3 mice and always wanted rats. But didnt know to much about them so this video was SO much help. Thank you so much. ❤
brought my three boys home tonight and the personalities are out right away. one in particular was quick to explore the entire cage, take a piece of food right out of my hand, climb all over absolutely everything, etc. the other two went and hid and haven’t come out very much at all. tomorrow I’ll start trying to interact. I have a feeling I know who’s gonna interact back first, but you never know!!
Update it's month 2 and I have attachment issues 😅 We bonded really well and they get so excited when I go over to their cage to play when them in the mornings. They have really been showing their personalities ❤️
My daughter and I are getting 3 rats together, I guided her on research to choose an animal that is appropriate for what she wants in a pet, and have been guiding her on how to research for new pets properly. She's taking it very seriously, making care sheets, double checking her information as I am also doing research separately to make sure her information is correct. Under adult supervision do you think an average to above average maturity 10 year old can reasonably handle the majority of care for rats? As I said these will be our rats and I will be highly supervising their care, I am just curious others opinions on this because people often bash buying small animals for kids. Personally I think it depends on the child. With my 10 year old I've been confident that she is mature enough for it from the beginning, but with my 12 year old I am lukewarm like 2/10 on her getting a pet as she talks about it from time to time but hasn't shown much interest in actually doing research or being excited about the process of preparing for a new pet. I think another major factor also is the fact that even if my daughter lost all interest in the rats in 2 weeks I would be more than happy to care for them myself and as I don't work I have more than ample time to do so. sorry for ramble-posting. Really love this comprehensive video. :)
Thank you for being a responsible parent 😌 usually I’d say pets for kids are a bad idea, but if you get rats because you want rats too and you’re prepared to care for them if / when she loses interest I think you should do it, she sounds more responsible than most kids 😌 I don’t think age matters too much it’s more their maturity towards the subject!
Zayden Elliot I think it would be a great idea. My little sister is 12 and she’s well prepared. My mom left her in charge of all of the research and she’s doing fine. It’s worth mentioning she very mature for her age and knows a lot about rats. I’d say if you are well prepared and you are willing to pay vet fees, it would work out
I wish you were my mom :( my parents wont let me get rats even though i can afford them and ive been doing research on them and im still earning more money for them
brought home 2 4-5 month old babies the other day I haven’t had them since high school and they immediately jumped up on the cage and wanted to play but I wanted to let them settle first I COULD HAVE BEEN PLAYING W THEM THIS WHOLE TIME 😭 I’m so happy 🥹 thank you for this super informative video I needed a little brush up🥰
I know this video is super old, but can I just say that I’ve been binging your channel and that the other day my fiancé and I brought home our two fur babies! I eventually want to expand the group but for now, one for me and one for my fiancé. The little boys get along so well and my little albino Gentle Criminal is so sweet and clingy already! Scooby is a little more leery, but he’s coming around slowly.
Niki or Nike same now I’ve been researching for years I’ll be Able to get to or three pet rat ties I’ve owned Ed them before but my sister was allergic but I moved out so I’m exited
Because wild rats carry diseases and throughout history rats have plagued farmers crops etc. They’re pretty much the reason cats exist. But as a pet you take care of and feed that’s different of course.
I'm planning to get a couple of rats and just stumbled upon your channel. I must say, I love it! You're to the point and just seem very nice. Thank you! Subscribed ♥️
Just had to say: Mostly rats have to be VERY scared before they will bite to break the skin. Most of the time they will simply tense and you can tell this by how much they grip you with their claws. Beautiful rats you have Emiology, I am jealous of your new babies!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who sets up the cage like a month early. although I think I also do it because I’m prone to changing my mind on the layout and I don’t wanna be moving stuff around when the little guys are already trying to adjust
Slimey Teddybears I have wanted them since I was 12 I waited until I had my own job I could prove to my parents that I can take care of them on my own that's when I was able to get them
This video has saved me from so much stress. I obviously did my research before bringing home my boys but not one thing I saw before getting them warned me about the new rat sniffles. I was about to book them in for the vets I was so worried! So this was a weight of my sholders! This was a very informative video! Thank you!
I've had my boys since Saturday 14th and 1 of my boys is sneezing and sniffling lots. I did contact the vets but then I read up loads about new home sneezes and this video has eased my mind.
I’m definitely not getting rats for a long long time but I’m watching all your videos so I know what to expect, and so I know how to care for them! Your videos are so informative and I love your channel!
I love your videos and thank you! my tiny rat after two days escaped and I was beside myself looking all over my condo which is pretty much rat proof where they can’t get out or underneath or behind cabinets fridge toilet but I was so distraught and came up with an idea of getting a thermal imaging machine!!! It detects a heat source. Fortunately I heard a clink on my kitchen counter at 5 AM (I had blocked up the sink so she could not get down the drain)... and when I left the couch I saw her but she was so fast and don’t know where she hid... as I left the house I put the other baby and her cage on the kitchen counter when I got home the baby in the cage kept looking up and I thought it was strange because I had a towel over the cage and when I lifted the towel the lost baby was under there.....I guess freedom didn’t work out for her... ;). &And I’m still trying to figure out how she got up onto the kitchen counter...lol I heard so many stories of people losing their pocket pets just an idea a thermal imaging which you can get for an iPhone or rent it may help.... Instead of training two babies at a time on the sofa one at a time would be better especially based on the personality of the lost baby was acting more adventurous... Keep up your videos my friends and I, Rat lovers, enjoy them !!
Just brought home two bigger boys to our house to be with the one that I'd originally gotten. I only got one from a pet shop, pretty sure he was meant to be snake food, and he's so sweet. Then I found a breeder and met him about two hours away from here, now I just need a better cage. Thank you for all of your info, it's been invaluable.
I just got my babies today and they are SO CUTE! ( they’re names are cricket and pebble :) ) and I’m so glad for this video for helping the first week of them being in their new home! Thanks emi!
Most vets don’t know what to do with “exotics” even when they do take them. I wish more vets specialized in exotics. I’m lucky enough to live near an exotics only clinic whose director is practically a rat king. Normal vets, even when they try, usually misdiagnose and mistreat issues.
I brought mine to a local vet and they gave me meds that killed both my sick rat and my rat that was not sick (i had to treat both since they live together). Unfortunately even if you have vets that take in exotics, they sometimes are still more interested in the money than the animal :(
i am getting rats tomorrow and i have already watched all of your vids including this one 123444322455 times. i want to thank you for all the hard work you put in for making vids like this one for new or exsisting rat owners. without you i would be totally lost.
I've had two rats who both loved long, happy, healthy lives. However, I purchased them to feed them to my snake, who did not eat them. So for both of them, it was a relatively slow process of keeping them in a small cage until they were comfortable being handled. (Got them about a year apart). They both became my absolute best friends. My second rat recently passed away and although I don't feel ready to get a new rat so soon, I'm getting one today because I'm moving into my first apartment in less than a week and I want to have a rat with me when I move in. Gonna go get another feeder rat, not going in my snakes cage this time.
Hi Emi! I'm getting rats for my birthday in about two weeks and I'm so excited! I've watched so many of your videos and Im so inspired by your channel. Have an amazing day! :D
I'm picking up my girls in less than a week (from a local ethical breeder) and I'm so excited to bring them home! These will be my first rats, and I can't wait to meet them.
I love rats and have wanted them for a year, and I knew my mom would be... Unhappy about the idea, so I put together a LOT of information to educate her, and she still said no. My heart broke ☹️
i just recently moved cross country and there aren’t any rat breeders near me :( however, i did go to a petsmart near me and brought home two healthy boys! the assistant said they came from the same breeder so these two definitely bond well. i hate adopting from shops but you do what you can for the time being!
Hey :) I’ve just got 3 girls.. been home with us since Saturday… I’ve found and not sure if I should be worried or not.. they can fight and I hear little squeaks 😳 so must hurt a bit.. 🤷🏼♀️ don’t want any bullying going on! Any advice .. ThAnkyou 🙏🏻
@@jennyjohnson4145 it shouldn’t be anything to really worry about. My girls have fought a few times but it’s more play fighting than anything. Sometimes when they groom each other they squeak to let the other one know that whatever they’re doing hurts. Keep and eye out for any blood, that’s when you should worry. As well the fighting could be them asserting their dominance and establishing a hierarchy within their group
@@samp2864 yes exactly ThAnkyou.. I definitely check for blood! First call… and I Was reading and found out about aggressive grooming - can be stress related - which I put down to the move etc.. obv it’s just not nice to hear.. so I tell them no and to play nicely 😂🤦♀️🤷🏼♀️ and I was just concerned and thought it’s no harm asking.. yes.. when you said you had three.. that’s why I asked you.. because I’ve got three gorgeous girls myself.. maybe it was something you had experienced too.. if not I could delve deeper.. I’m sure it’s all to do with pecking order too.. I’ve made sure I have three food bowls and three water bottles.. so they never have to compete for food or water.. I’ve got lots of toys.. and looking into enrichment - their still babies.. but can’t wait to get a bigger cage .. already looking lol :) ThAnkyou for the reassurance 🙏🏻
@@jennyjohnson4145 anytime! Sounds like you have everything under control and you’re gonna have some lucky girls! And yes the amount of times i’ve said “girls be nice to each other” has got to be some sort of record😂
@@samp2864 lol :) I caught myself saying.. come on your sisters, you should be nice to each other lol :) so funny how they stop and stare at me 😂 When I bought all the stuff for the cage .. I thought how am I going to fit this all in.. but I did lol 🙌🏻 love watching them explore and get more confident with things :) cut them a lovely bit of soft Material for the coconut.. (just something other than the hammock to explore) kicked the nice blanket out 😳 🙄😂 prefer it natural.. need a bugger cage to toilet train them.. don’t have enough room on the floor for a decent size toilet.. I’m going to go second hand.. their quite expensive for big ones.. to be fair I’ve been looking at big bird or ferret cages and I like white lol 😆 They have a lush cage atm.. but I’m sure when they start growing more and with three.. they will appreciate more running room. And more beds I guess.. I saw the boys at the breeders proper snuggle partying in hammocks.. the girls seem to love the coconut - abit gutted lol I got a lush big hammock - but I wonder because I’ve put a little soft blanket type thing in.. it’s more our smell.. so prefer the non human smell coconut- maybe in time.. tbh I think they pee on it? Seems to smell abit.. I’ll wash it soon - just the holes are abit big for them being small atm. So needed something. They do crash there sometimes and defo go to eat there and stare at me 😂 anyway! ThAnkyou 🙏🏻 all the best :)
My first rat friend took a nap on my arms the first day home. The other one took 2 more weeks to get settled in. A third one is on her way, the breeder sends me pictures every week
My husband and I just adopted four 14 week old boys. They were from the adoption section in our local pet store. The assistant opened the door to the enclosure and they were literally all over us so the person who had them before must have handled them quite a bit. We just stood playing with them for ages. We just had to take them all home. They are a little skittish since we got them home but they're super friendly (so funny and crazy too) and the most adorable little boys. Really looking forward to getting to know them. Rats get such bad press but they're just so awesome!
Got my first two yesterday after months of research (they’re babies 🥰). One thing I wasn’t aware of was the sniffles they do in a new environment.. I was very concerned thinking it could be symptoms of respiratory infection. So glad to know it’s completely normal at first 😅
I'm getting my rats tomorow. I am so excited, I'm not going to a breeder, but i am going to buy them of a rat owner who had an unexpected litter, I can't wait. I'm getting two boys, their names will be Pepe and Pink (Pepe after the skeleton from the Black Parade, Pink after Pink from the Wall, I have a thing with concept albums XD) I'm literally so excited.
Thanks for your videos. I had many rats growing up and decided to get some to raise with my toddler. I've relied heavily on your videos to get back in gear and get better at what it was I used to do!
I think I've done a pretty good job of getting all the basics (and then some) for the wats sorted out. And a few extra things. I know what I need to add eventually.
I’ve owned rats before, and I’m getting one again soon, and I knew a lot about them, but your videos are super helpful and I’m learning lots! Thanks for that. PS I love your rex. Adorable!!
A bit late, but I might be getting my first rats soon! (I’m getting 3 rescues) Does it matter how much cucumber you put in when getting them? I just want to know so I don’t put too much or too little in!)
A slightly more common place alternative to a bonding pouch can be a dressing gown! I tie the belt and double knot it then pull through the chest of the dressing gown to make a pouch for them to sit in
I got my rats from a pet shop called Elliott's. I expected them to be skittish, but they were actually hand-raised by one of the workers! They're pretty friendly, but still getting used to their new home.
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm about to foster 2 female rats, and your videos have taught me a LOT. Thanks for educating people on rat ownership. :)
I went to a local pet store and one caught my eye! I brought him home today. Very skiddish and nervous but hes a sweetheart❤ I cant wait for his new toys to get here!
I wish I'd listened to you lol. Instead I got 4 rats from a feeder breeder. My daughter's 2 females are doing well but scheduled for a vet appointment this weekend for fecal tests and rat lice treatment. I also got 2 males for me. They developed diarrhea, one died the second day and the other died after a vet visit and 7 days of antibiotics. It tore my heart out. I had gotten another male to pair with the one I thought would survive so he wouldn't be alone. I got him from a pet store. He also developed diarrhea. I took him to a different vet, he had worms and bacterial GI infection. I should probably just make a video about all of this. Bc here I am with a lone rat forcing meds when I should be bonding and building trust. I think he hates me now. 🥺 . I've got 2 new babies coming from a breeder when we hopefully get the "go ahead/all clear" from the vet this weekend (so I'm taking 3 rats to the vet this weekend). Hopefully I'll finally be able to get him some friends. I have watched a ton of your videos and know how to go about the intro. I wish I had listened and gotten from a reputable breeder in the first place, and I wish I'd gotten 3 girls for my daughter and 3 boys for me. Trust me people who read this, 2 is a minimum but I wouldn't recommend it, bc one could pass away, etc. I've paid over $2000 this month for our new rats (the rats, cages, excessories, medications, vet bills). And my heart is broken bc I was really attached to Dumbledore (the one who passed after I tried saving him for a week). It has been a nightmare and I could have avoided it. Lesson learned... The hard way.
You made me feel so much better about my babies 😭😂😂 I just got two baby rats and I thought they absolutely hated me but I’ll just give them more time and be more patient with them 😂❤️
I just got 2 baby rats too! One of them will cuddle with me already but he grinds his teeth around me sometimes so I don't know if that's good or not, the other one will let me hold him for a short period of time and is sitting on my bed napping right now, I just got them today so I think they are doing pretty well with bonding to me, I'm just a little worried about the teeth grinding
@@CapnArrich okay! they do bite on their cage sometimes too but that might be because they want out because they really only do that at night or when i come by their cage
Thank you I've been thinking about getting one and wanted to learn more I love your information on rats it's helping my decision and getting ready to have one.
I've a question. I don't know if it was already asked but here it is 😸. How do you vacuum or clean the room where they are without scaring them with the loud sound ? Thanks for your precious videos by the way, I'm getting 2 rats from an rescue association near me 😊
my very special son blueberry chose me yesterday so i'm rewatching this again to drive it home! since.......i didn't expect it to be so hard to follow this, lol. i left him overnight but i kept wanting to bother him lol. i also didn't expect to be at all tempted to open the carrier but i didn't hear him and i was scared btw - he's rat aggressive, so he had to be adopted alone, don't worry about him not having rat friends. he vastly prefers people - he's already relaxed in my home even though he's still kinda spooked because there aren't any rats around and i haven't had one before so no rat smell even.
OMG! I’m so excited! I recently lost a rat, and now I have none . But it’s my birthday soon , and my mums found a breeder! IM GETTING 2 NEW RATS!!!! EEEEK!!!

How are they??
Those are great tips, thank you! I'm probably getting 2 female babies in a couple of weeks :D
Yep. My breeder gave me their HAMMOCK to take home with my new wats.
I’m definitely doing this, I’m getting them from a breeder and luckily for me the breeder has food she feeds them for sale and I’ll pick some up from her when I pick them up in a week
Thank you so much for the tip!
Thanks for the great video. 🥰
I've just got three baby's today and there all so cute 😍

You couldn't have posted this at a more perfect time. I'm getting my two boys this weekend, so thanks for all the amazing videos ❤️🐭
I have a feeling I know who’s gonna interact back first, but you never know!!
where did you start to look for rats? I dont know where to find rat breeders
It's day 2 with my rats and one of them gave me kisses and went on my hand
Update it's month 2 and I have attachment issues 😅 We bonded really well and they get so excited when I go over to their cage to play when them in the mornings. They have really been showing their personalities ❤️
Lillth Oml this is so cute and inspiring! I’m getting my pet rats tomorrow, it’s gonna be so hard to leave them alone!! xD

Probably gonna be getting mine in a few weeks, I’m gonna be seeing them later today! c:
5:50 THAT YAWN!!! 🤩
I’d say if you are well prepared and you are willing to pay vet fees, it would work out
I wish you were my mom :( my parents wont let me get rats even though i can afford them and ive been doing research on them and im still earning more money for them
@@ratonatheramona5310 same I've been doing research for 2 years and I've been saving money for a couple months but so far I only have about $20

brought home 2 4-5 month old babies the other day
I haven’t had them since high school and they immediately jumped up on the cage and wanted to play but I wanted to let them settle first
I COULD HAVE BEEN PLAYING W THEM THIS WHOLE TIME 😭
I’m so happy 🥹
thank you for this super informative video
I needed a little brush up🥰
I know this video is super old, but can I just say that I’ve been binging your channel and that the other day my fiancé and I brought home our two fur babies! I eventually want to expand the group but for now, one for me and one for my fiancé. The little boys get along so well and my little albino Gentle Criminal is so sweet and clingy already! Scooby is a little more leery, but he’s coming around slowly.
I already liked rats since they're so cute.Idk why people are so scared of them.I'm trying to feed our garden rat.
One of my rats when i first got him he would lick ur hand and he still does that telling u to pet him
+Jessi Barwick mine does that too 😍
I'm planning to get a couple of rats and just stumbled upon your channel. I must say, I love it! You're to the point and just seem very nice. Thank you! Subscribed ♥️
I'm a rat owner of 7 years and I'm still here 😆 loving the videos :3
Loved this video so much ♥️ it was also so nice to see the babes towards the end:) xoxo

Just had to say:
Mostly rats have to be VERY scared before they will bite to break the skin.
I'm getting my 2 girls this Saturday and I'm so excited! This was really helpful! Thanks! :)
Your videos have been really helping me with my baby rats I just got! Your channel is awesome!
You also need to save up money for the vet. At least $200 or more.

Fortunately I heard a clink on my kitchen counter at 5 AM (I had blocked up the sink so she could not get down the drain)... and when I left the couch I saw her but she was so fast and don’t know where she hid... as I left the house I put the other baby and her cage on the kitchen counter when I got home the baby in the cage kept looking up and I thought it was strange because I had a towel over the cage and when I lifted the towel the lost baby was under there.....I guess freedom didn’t work out for her... ;). &And I’m still trying to figure out how she got up onto the kitchen counter...lol
I heard so many stories of people losing their pocket pets just an idea a thermal imaging which you can get for an iPhone or rent it may help....
Instead of training two babies at a time on the sofa one at a time would be better especially based on the personality of the lost baby was acting more adventurous...
Keep up your videos my friends and I, Rat lovers, enjoy them !!
I’m glad there’s a exotic vet down the road for when I get rats soon!
I picked up my new rats today so this video was very helpful thank you!
I just got my babies today and they are SO CUTE! ( they’re names are cricket and pebble :) ) and I’m so glad for this video for helping the first week of them being in their new home! Thanks emi!
I LOVE this video! I'm getting my first pair of rats tomorrow from a breeder . This video has helped me. thank you!
When my boys got pneumonia, I learned vets in my area don't treat rats. One of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with.
Unfortunately even if you have vets that take in exotics, they sometimes are still more interested in the money than the animal :(
Most pets I have (rats, parrots etc.) Can't be treated due to them being exotics
I thought when you said boys you ment kids and you named you rat pneumonia i was so confused 😅
I just brought home 2 new babies today! ❤️ they are super sweet and I love them!
i am getting rats tomorrow and i have already watched all of your vids including this one 123444322455 times. i want to thank you for all the hard work you put in for making vids like this one for new or exsisting rat owners. without you i would be totally lost.

I'm getting a rat in 4 days and you made me feel so good about it.
Hopefully not just one 🙂
i just recently moved cross country and there aren’t any rat breeders near me :( however, i did go to a petsmart near me and brought home two healthy boys! the assistant said they came from the same breeder so these two definitely bond well. i hate adopting from shops but you do what you can for the time being!
I brought home some rats today I’m so excited I’ve been watching you for years!
My daughter got two little boy rats yesterday an she's trying to follow all your suggestions to try to bond with them. She loves your videos 😁🐭🐁

I just recently got three girls and all your videos have been so helpful i've been using a lot of your tips!
@@samp2864 lol :) I caught myself saying.. come on your sisters, you should be nice to each other lol :) so funny how they stop and stare at me 😂
When I bought all the stuff for the cage .. I’m going to go second hand.. their quite expensive for big ones.. to be fair I’ve been looking at big bird or ferret cages and I like white lol 😆
They have a lush cage atm.. but I’m sure when they start growing more and with three.. they will appreciate more running room.
5 years ago but still super useful! Getting a pair tommorow and I’m super excited but nervous
I'm getting rats tomorrow! I'm so excited. This video helped a bunch :)
Imee. You are always so positive and happy. Im getting rats in a week so wish me luck
Good luck!
Got my first two yesterday after months of research (they’re babies 🥰). One thing I wasn’t aware of was the sniffles they do in a new environment.. I was very concerned thinking it could be symptoms of respiratory infection. So glad to know it’s completely normal at first 😅
I’m getting my new rats tomorrow, I’m so excited!!!
5 hours and counting to when I bring my four new wats home.
Four males. Two juvenile and two adults from two of the best breeders in South Florida.
Deplorable Dave all males that’s gonna be a hard time

Because they will kill each other, then eat the body tbh. You didn't know that?? Males must be neutered to live together!

Emiology yes! 2 females
A bit late, but I might be getting my first rats soon! (I’m getting 3 rescues) Does it matter how much cucumber you put in when getting them? I just want to know so I don’t put too much or too little in!)
A slightly more common place alternative to a bonding pouch can be a dressing gown! I tie the belt and double knot it then pull through the chest of the dressing gown to make a pouch for them to sit in
They are adorable! I teared up over all the cuteness.
You have really helped me learn more about rats! Now i can look after my two new babies goodly (if thats a word)

I’m getting a rat next month. I can’t wait there so cute
You have had him for a month how's it going
please, please get him a friend! rats get severely depressed when alone.
@@norahdejournett9609 From what I have discovered, teeth grinding is completely natural. Their teeth don´t stop growing, so they grind them.
@@CapnArrich okay! they do bite on their cage sometimes too but that might be because they want out because they really only do that at night or when i come by their cage
so can we get an update?

Thanks for your precious videos by the way, I'm getting 2 rats from an rescue association near me 😊
thank you so much for posting these videos i’m getting two baby boy rats in a week and i really want to be prepared!!!
I saw a picture of a hairless rat and burst into tears.......IT'S SO CUUUUTE!!!!
Baby rats are the cutest things in existence ❤️❤️❤️
my very special son blueberry chose me yesterday so i'm rewatching this again to drive it home! since.......i didn't expect it to be so hard to follow this, lol. i left him overnight but i kept wanting to bother him lol. i also didn't expect to be at all tempted to open the carrier but i didn't hear him and i was scared
btw - he's rat aggressive, so he had to be adopted alone, don't worry about him not having rat friends. he vastly prefers people - he's already relaxed in my home even though he's still kinda spooked because there aren't any rats around and i haven't had one before so no rat smell even.
I've only had experience with mice and the care is completely different. Mice take longer to bond and aren't as social. Good info thanks
Oh my goodness you have Angel stuffed animal in your background angel is my favorite character in Lilo and stitch and also I love the rats are so cute
