    Thank you very much for this video. I ordered and received the same converter via Amazon few days ago and it really works. I can now convert all my old Hi8 analog videos to digital. 👍

    what if you are transferring Macrovision Copy Protected VHS tapes?

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't know for sure. But from what I have read, the macrovision is designed to prevent an analog to analog copy and is ineffective against digital sampling. In other words, it should work.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @WaybackRewind

      Sounds like a software issue, it might be looking for the S-video and you are using the yellow RCA instead? Hearing the sound is a good sign though, at least you know the camera is being recognized. I would search for an option to change input on the software.
      Let me know how that works out.

    I have been using a similar device, the GV-USB2 and the GV-USB2/HQ from I-O Data (Japanese company). The quality comes out just as the original tape, and I used it with a Sony VHS deck and a HI-8 deck. Now I'm looking to work on the MiniDV tapes so I think I have to change my capture method.
    The included software is not as content-rich as OBS, but it's done the job until now.
    The only thing is, the software I have doesn't do deinterlacing. Would you be so kind as to make a video going through that process? Taking these digitized old videos from this capture method and applying deinterlacing vis OBS?

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have not tried the deinterlacing process, so I appreciate the suggestion. I probably should have stated in all these videos not to expect an increase in quality. It would take advanced artifical intelligence to do that. These methods simply get it off the tape and into an easier to watch format.

      @@WaybackRewind I must say after many tries I am lost in regards to how the hell to edit and output miniDV footage that looks and feels the same as the original footage looks like, while having the final file be progressive+25fps. 🤔
      If you go 25fps + Progressive - this means you will have choppy frames since it feels like you must render at 50-60fps to keep that smooth camcorder look. And if you render @25fps you throw away half of the information /fields away.
      And this is quite confusing, as I never saw camcorders as ones who record 60fps. I think it's the fields that make it so. I thought the Deinterlacing process is supposed to do just that: unite both interlaced fields into one, and so display all the information under 25fps, but I never managed to do that.
      Either I don't know how to deinterlace right (after effects is supposed to do that automatically),
      Or, I am missing some information in solving that..... 🤔

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  ปีที่แล้ว

      @eladbari Since you are talking 25 fps I'm assuming you are in a PAL? De-interlacing is not something I've ever fussed with to be honest. After I get the DV out of the camera I put it through Handbrake to convert to MP4. I think drop it into my NLE and render everything in 60p. In my experience it never quite looks as good as I remember it unless I watch it on an analog TV.
      Thanks for watching.

    I have the trv 280 it doesn't have a S cable port only the AV out.
    Does it need a s cable to transfer or can i jus use the av out cable that came with the camcorder

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The TRV-480 doesn't have the S-Cable either. The TRV-460 does. For some reason, Sony eliminated it on the newer camera.
      No, you do not need to use the s cable. The AV out cable that came with the camera will work just fine.

      When I get home, I'll take a look. There is one tricky step where you have to add the camera. That might be the problem, but I can't tell you from memory how to do it. When I look at it later I will post the instructions. Thanks.

    Using a similar capture device for my Panasonic palmcorder but no video shows whenever I try to record it

    • @WaybackRewind
      @WaybackRewind  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say no video shows do you mean on the computer? I assume video is coming out of the camera okay if you connect it directly to a TV? I need a few more details to be able to give you specific advice.
      Most likely, something is not configured properly on the software. Start with standard troubleshooting technique which is start with what you know works and see where it stops working. For example, make sure the camcorder plays on its own, then make sure it plays into a TV. Take another video source and attach it to capture device. Depending on what doesnt work it narrows down the failure.
      Good luck and thanks for watching.

      A computer with a DVD drive should be able to read the discs. As for pictures, remove the SD card from the camera and plug it into a PC using an USB card reader.
