I went through BMT Lackland way back in December '75. I was 22 at the time and that gave me an advantage in dealing with the mind games of basic training. However, there was a group of 5 younger guys in my flight who decided they just couldn't handle the stress. For them, enlisting was a big mistake. We were in our first week of training. They came up with a plan to escape Lackland. As a group, they went to our 1st Sergeant and confessed that they have smoked marijuana and they will continue to smoke marijuana. Well, that plan worked. After seeing the 1st Sergeant, they were told to collect their belongings as they are being shipped home that day. I don't know what kind of discharge they received. Although I had no intention of quitting, I have to admit, I was a little bit jealous. Some of the 17 and 18 year old kids had never been away from their mommies, so the whole shock of basic was just too much for some of them.
@Fermi Paradox always communicate with your wingmen and give a good impression zero week by working hard and you’ll be respected by your wingmen and eventually by your MTI’s. But it’s not bad at all, just make sure you listen
I remember during the first week of training, one guy in my flight got taken away by security forces. Never saw him again or heard what happened to him. Everyone else that got recycled out of my flight was for failing their PT test so they got sent to fat camp I guess.
There was 3 people in my flight that got kicked out because of medical. There was 4 guys that got recycled into my flight due to not passing the PT test but they couldn’t pass the final and they got kicked out.
One of my BMT mate got kicked out. He got a cyber job that requires top secret, but investigator found out he used to do cocaine. the day before graduation day, he got kicked out.
Only one kid got recycled in my flight. He slapped another kid in the back of the head as a joke and kids in my flight snitched. They didn’t even talk to the 2 involved. Just keep your hands to yourself guys it’s not worth it to horseplay
Some people would do things like try and commit suicide or purposely try and get themselves hurt so that they can be kicked out. Those are some issues that people would try and do .
Usually you’d get sent to BAS at reid medical and they’ll dq you so try to be cool and avoid them bc if you say the wrong thing they’ll jam you up. Regular anxious feelings is normal but when it leads a depression and what not then it becomes an issue
@@onedown9936 They just ask if you have ever been depressed or suicidal before and if you have ever been diagnosed with a mental illness. Saying yes can cause you to be disqualified. Being in a highly stressful situation can cause people to become depressed, so you can be mentally ready before you leave but you won't know if that would change or not depending on the person.

Wow! Crazy stuff!
Awesome video, and this was great information. I didn't know that there was a term for it, so learning about it gives me great insight

Will thank God am not mentally ill but I do have a physical condition (hopefully temporarily).

We lost like 12 total. A lot for medical reasons. Definitely sucked!
So by mental issues what do you mean? It sounds like people get really anxious at basic and then get recycled. I just want to know what to expect

@@ashleymariah95 wouldn’t MEPS ask if you’re mentally ready before going to basic?
