Tennessee Vols is called the volunteers because Tennessee is a state of civil war and when the civil war was going on they volunteered people to come to the civil war kind of like Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone and I think you should do an episode on it.
So proud to be from Tennessee. It's not perfect but it's as close to perfect as I think a place could be. Well except for Memphis but they need to annex them out anyway. 😅 lol.
Dixie Carter was classically beautiful. Dark hair, dark eyes, and a smile that graced every project in which she was featured. She exuded class and sophistication, yet possessed a down to earth aspect that made her relatable to all. A kind of woman that is not made anymore.
I remember watching The Edge of Night. It was a little different from other soaps in that the story lines involved mysteries and crimes. I remember the opening seeming a little spooky to me as a kid
You're close to me, Lamont! My dad's family are from Huntingdon, Tn, and my grandmother went to school with Dixie. My aunt's sister lived next door to her and Hal Holbrook, in McLemoresville. There is a small entertainment center there in Huntingdon, named after her, called "The Dixie." Glad to see you're visiting us! Bless your ❤!
Omg I love Dixie!!! She was so feisty!! "The night the lights went out in Georgia" episode where she goes on a rant taking up for Suzanne with a beauty queen is my all time favorite rant of "Julia Sugarbaker"
@eleciatatum678, OMG, I remember that episode. It's probably one of the most famous ones ever on that show. That scene of her telling off that blonde woman was so funny, she was even in her face, lol. Julia was not someone who tolerated drama from anyone else.
Those 80s sitcoms delivered moral and ethic truths in clear, unadulterated terms. They were written and portrayed in ways that were meant to be understood by all viewers.
Meshach Taylor was also on the pilot episode of the golden girls. He played a police officer that came to the door to tell Blanche that her fiance was a bigamist. 😊
Never missed an episode! Then watched reruns!!!! Loved the show! My son said I was "Julia"! Took that as a compliment. Always stand up for what's right......thanks, Lamont.....
Lamont I was born in 1976 I think I’m a couple years older than you we were the last generation that drank out of a water hose and stayed outside during summers for 8 plus hours not glued to a phone or gaming system! Your content is top shelf stuff!
I still drink out of a garden hose, but then I'm 10 years older than you. Nothing like an icy cold drink from the hose after the water has run a while.
I miss this tv show I honestly miss her dearly ❤ I remember some of them not all of them. I was still in school when she passed away unfortunately thank you for doing this story
One of the lines I remember from Designing Women was when one of the characters, I think it might have been Delta Burke, referred to the French university, the Sorbonne, in a lovely thick southern accent, as the Sore Buns. They had funny dialogue to entertain all ages on that show, even kids, by including silly butt jokes. lol
I remember Dixie Carter (Julia Sugarbaker) being called the Terminator by the other ladies on Designing Women!! I still watch the reruns of the show on Antenna Tv!! RIP Dixie Carter. ♥️🙏🏼🌹😇✝️
I watch the Edge of night one of my grandmothers favorite soap operas. She played on different strokes as Philip Drummondswife, then she left and was replaced. Bye, Maria Mobley.
Im 48 next month, but i remember the show it was on Wednesday at in the afternoon. It started in 1986 on CBS. Thanks for sharing her final reasting place of Dixie Carter. Thanks Lamont.
Gerald McRaney is an excellent actor and I’ve watched him in Major Dad, Promised Land ( a spin off of Touched By An Angel), And This Is Us He was the doctor on this is us who delivered all 3 of the babies at the beginning of the show and he was in other episodes too
Oh I definitely remember The Edge of Night. It was a soap opera that I remember from my childhood. Loved Designing Women. Thank so much for doing this video
I find it odd they buried them clear out of the limelight. but I believe they have a music or acting fund in a near by town. But Thanks, I never saw the whole cemetery Lamont.
Hi lamont from shelbyville tn! Loved designing women! Julia sugarbaker was a firecracker! Simon and simon was a pretty good show you probably were to young and a boy but the moms loved simon and simon oh and fall guy😂
Loved her in Designing Women and Desperate Housewives. I was just reading about her last night. She died in Houston and Her and Her Husband are buried in Tennessee where she was born.
Got into Designing Women in 2020-ten years after Dixie Carter passed away. As a matter fact, I watched two episodes last night on Antenna TV-Dwyane’s World and Marriage Most Foul from Season 5 (post Delta Burke and Jean Smart aka Suzanne Sugarbaker and Charlene Frazier, respectively). Getting back to Dixie, she was amazing as Juila Sugarbaker in Designing Women and deserved an Emmy for her performance (a complete 180 from playing Maggie McKinney on Diff’rent Strokes). Great video, Lamont. PS. First five seasons were great. After Delta and Jean left, the final two seasons tanked.
@DoubleHeader97, I agree with you about the show. I have the first 5 seasons on DVD, but not the last two seasons. You're right about that the show wasn't quite the same with season 6. Julia Duffy replaced Delta Burke (Julia played that nasty cousin, Allison, who always insisted she was #1, etc.) Jan Hooks replaced Jean Smart, playing Carlene (Charlene's sister). I learned the ratings for season 6 dropped because of Julia Duffy's character. Ms. Duffy was dismissed after that season and was replaced by Judith Ivey (playing a rich Texas widow) for season 7. The ratings for the seventh season improved a little, but the end of the show was not far off; it would end in the spring of '93.
Tennessee Vols is called the volunteers because Tennessee is a state of civil war and when the civil war was going on they volunteered people to come to the civil war kind of like Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone and I think you should do an episode on it.
Yep!!!
Always wondered that myself and I’m only a little over a hour away in Ga.
👍🏼
War of 1812!!!!!!!!! Not civil war

@@christicovingtonI was born and raised in Tennessee. Gods country.
She was the best conservative woman playing a liberal you could ever run across
RIP to Dixie Carter and Meshach Taylor who played Anthony Bouvier on Designing Women
She was such a spit fire. I loved that. Thank you for remembering her. 🕊️❤️🙏
Designing Women was a great show. All beautiful women.
Dixie Carter was classically beautiful. Dark hair, dark eyes, and a smile that graced every project in which she was featured. She exuded class and sophistication, yet possessed a down to earth aspect that made her relatable to all. A kind of woman that is not made anymore.

Mike Carr and Adam Drake
Designing Women was my show as a kid. Probably had no business watching it but Dixie taught me how to read a person down!!!
Looks like her father passed just 3 years before she did , and her husband being older than her lived till he was 95
80s & 90s tv was so good

Shoulder pads were a big part of the 80's
Shoulder pads were in jackets and dresses mostly. I used to cut them out.
I wore my shoulder pads proudly! 😂

Annie Potts!
I loved Meshach Taylor as Anthony. He had me cracking up. He was my fave along with the old woman at the beginning on the clip you showed.
He was my favorite too! He and Bernice could really have ya rolling in laughter.
Him and Suzanne always had me cracking up 😂
Did he played in mannequin as Hollywood?
@@morrie79 yep 👍
Glad you made it to West Tennessee. I met Ms. Carter a couple of times. Her grave is not far from my house.
