Hi, Doyle. I don't know if you'll remember me or not, but I was your first guitar teacher back when you were 12 years old in Fort Worth. I am so proud of all you have accomplished since then. You were, no doubt, a child prodigy and the most promising student I have ever taught. My only record, a 45 rpm, was also your first record. At 12 years old you played drums on the session because the drummer I had hired didn't show up. As my most promising student, I had invited you to come watch me do a recording session, thinking maybe it might inspire you further. Little did I know you would wind up saving the day. Your dad said that it was your first time to ever even enter a studio, and he was awfully proud of the job you did (as was I). I regret that I didn't stay in touch with you after that. You were a remarkably kind and respectful young man back then, and I hear those who know you now saying the same of you now, which doesn't surprise me a bit. I don't know if you will ever see this letter, but even if you don't, it might be fun for your fans who read these things to know these things about you. I wish you all the best in life, and I cannot reiterate enough how proud I am of you. You're a good man, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to be a part of your musical journey and to have called you my friend.
@@themightycrespo You have heard correctly. He sure does play a mean shuffle, even the dreaded left-handed shuffle. As far as my first record goes, I'm afraid I don't have access to a copy at this point. My only copy is framed and hanging on my wall. ...with Doyle's autograph amongst the others.
@@FullRaidersAlchemist Thank you for lacing me up to Doyle playing drums on that song. I just listened to it for the first time. I appreciate the lace-up very much.
Doyle had the soul of a blues man at a young age. Great to watch him grow age and mature. I remember when he played with the Thunderbirds and was dubbed " the next SRV" Fast forward to arcangels with soulful and blues tributes like "see what tomorrow brings" and "good time" ...moving on to doing Pink Floyd SOLOS with Roger Waters, to playing the Great Wall of China with Clapton....this guys career continues to grow. Playing with Mayer Tedeshchi and Countless others, and being a studio legend. Love me some Doyal. I was introduced by a Bay area legend Stu Blank. Rip.
My words fail to describe how beautiful this is, so I will quote Van, The Man, "Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher, radio. Turn it up, that's enough, so you know, it's got soul." Mr. Bramhall, so you know, you have soul, so much soul! In a world where the music industry is more concerned with ratings of contest shows and an artist's number of online streams than making great music, thank you for creating art that is authentic and beautiful. You rock!
Thank you, architectaudiophile, for being the voice of reason. I am in total agreement with you. Doyle definitely has soul and the voice of an angel (his grandmother once told me back when Doyle was a boy that he sang like an angel, and she was right). Thank you for countering the arrogant and tasteless folks who trash talked him in the comments above. They know nothing of fine music.
I am in a music trance with Doyle Bramhall !! A very good friend of mine , turned me onto his music , Oh, I am so stoked !! Love, love his voice, guitar and fellow musicians 😎You have an amazing voice that just hits my soul ❤ Thank You !! 🎸🎶😎💖
I only discovered this talented guy recently and so glad I did. Love his music 🎶 and watching him play with Eric Clapton is also brilliant. I need to see him live one day. Doyle, you are awesomeness💝 ❤️ and such a brilliant guitar 🎸 player !
Doyle's so versatile going from Texas rock to have the ultimate honor of playing with Eric Clapton. Dude is incredibly talented and not to mention still so hot!! Love him....
DB... I watched you play that gig with Roger in Portland Oregon at the rose garden arena. The inspiration you 'all' gave me took me all the way to singing every single major arena on the northern continent... from one coast to the other. LOL... NO SHIT MAN. I watched you and 'snowy white' and Roger ... and I went out put a band together .. a soul band... and I played out. And I invited a random woman to my gig ... who put me in Trans Siberian Orchestra. Hence, I toured huge for 4 years. I felt that big tour feeling and I loved and continue to love it. Thank you for being such a light for me to admire and grow from. All because of that magical night at the rose garden it changed my musical career forever and ever.
I love the footage of Gadson...I would guess he played on the track and the footage might be of him recording it or other material on the album. Everything that guy does is a stone gas!
Once again Bramhall II staying true to form. Oozing Funky Soul that is sorely missed in the sonic galaxy. Love that old Plymouth Valiant too. It was the first car I ever drove and thought every car after should have been push button!
Great song! Lovely vocal and harmonies, steller. Lovely guitar work and great chorus. Doyle has come from a blues background and has developed really interestingly, you can hear a more 70s soulful vibe here a little bit of Eric towards the end.... In the actual track you get two lovely trading solos between him and doyle which is beautiful. Great track doyle love it! From your UK blues rock guitarist fan.
If you listen to the extended album version, you can hear Eric soloing even in the central part of the song. In this version he just plays a few licks in the end
Excellent! Saw DBII at the Tralf in Bflo NY last year. Who-wee, brought the house down. Danced my ass the entire show. He's beautiful to look at too. Good for you Renee
Really cool hip. Reminds me of Sly, Marvin Al Green and some of the hip vocal groups of late 60s early 70s can’t recall any at the moment. 👍 south Louisiana 👍👍
I wonder how much people know about Doyle and his connection to Clapton. I have read the comments and it makes wonder. I like the song Doyle . One of the many over the years!!
Doyle has toured for years as Clapton's guitarist and has produced some Clapton albums. If you'll read Clapton's autobiography you will find several passages where Clapton raves about his reverence for Doyle. Clapton holds Doyle in very high regard. I can easily understand why.
This song Changed my Life. This song sent to me, by ColBear, made me a believer on all layers.. 7 generations because of you blessed Energy and Guitar Man….for Me…You are a bit younger, but you made me, Doyle.
Doesn't Doyle just bring you up? The song Cry really lifts me up. It's an amazing song. I first heard it as someone close to me was near the end of their life and then passed away. The song has really helped me. "Give me strength for today"

So cool! I kinda want to listen that track if you still have it around.... I've heard he plays a mean shuffle!
Doyle also drums in " I'm leavin' " on Jellycream which features arguing about the direction his career should take with his father. Statement song.

Loved this song, but a bit disingenuous calling the artists Doyle Bramhall with Eric Clapton
no Clapton in sight.
He's probably on the album- (and, not in the video).
