Generally you need at least 5 to 6 cars fully loaded to offset the running costs of the whole train - including the locomotive - and to start turning a profit. The way you went overboard with the signal-gun, you might need 7, to cover the infrastructure costs 😅 Don’t fret! Since your trains are running on the flats they can manage 10-15 cars as well. It’ll take a bit longer to reach max speed, but at these distances and speeds it doesn’t yet really matter. Also: start delivering food to the cities that need it, or your factories won’t grow and eventually stall out. Pay attention to the resource requirements of the buildings when placing the drop-offs. Also:point-to-point passenger services can be great money makers in the beginning. Use “country roads” not “city streets” to connect the settlements.
You can clone trains. It makes it easier to get additional trains with the same capacities/cargo on the lines you want them on. Plus, you have far too many signals for the number of trains you have. Each of which costing you to maintain.
Top speed is not the only thing you have to see while selecting a locomotive. You need to check the horsepower and tractive effort also. Higher horse power & higher tractive effort will help to pull more cargo and achieve top speed quickly.
Seniac, I dont think you have to place these signals so near each other, you can put them only on crosses/joints. (by the way they cost you money once like 20 seconds in fast forward)
More signals means more blocks and more trains moving at the same time. You should set up signals about the same size as your longest planned train for maximum speed and/or trains moving at the same time. No trains can enter a block until a train leaves out the other end of the same block. If you only put signals at the end, near junctions.. Only one train (on each track) can be inside that entire block at one time.
Yeah Seniac you fool, we or at least I want to see some more of this. Also really enjoying your city bus manager game. Enjoying you're break out from City Skylines on this of your second channels.
anyone else find it funny that the train storage place looks pretty close to the main track and just needs a triangle but irl thats about 50-100 miles off the main line
For sure like some more but i must notice that the more you export the more the factories demand so if you start exporting the food your grain demand goes up.
Seniac, "its a struggle to get started" has a train setup making tons of money in less then hour Me, playing for 5 hours and barely making money and getting things done
The financial tycoon aspect of the game is OK. Where it really shines is the building of the tracks. It's basically a virtual miniture railroad table. Where you can run cool trains and build awesome tracks.
You should build truck stations that have one way in and out systems to better handle traffic and make the trucks not having to do u-turns all the time
This map looks amazing! I always start with oil and fuel as it makes the most money, maybe look at something in Texas? More of this please!! Whats the name of the map please? Also instead of using your spreadsheet to track money click on the lines and it shows you whats profitable and whats mot
Seniac, your factories will not produce goods untill they have a consumer, meening your food factoris wil not start to output food until you have set up a line to deliver it to a city.
Love these USA megalomaniac maps, with one caveat.. you can't really do a historical style playthrough, starting on the East Coast, and working westward, or you'll go broke. You have to start in Texas, with oil trains running to Houston, then sending fuel along the gulf coast, and up the Mississippi (or running food through the Midwest.) Trying to do East Coast stuff runs you into the Appalachians, and the huge costs of tunnels and grades. Starting in 1800, this means that Texas and the midwest aren't even part of the US when you do this. Still jolly good fun though.
The gane starts in 1950. Texas became a state in 1845. Even California was a state in 1850. The US had already manifest destined across the continent at that time. There were 30 states already just some territories had not yet been incorporated and ratified
Love your City Skylines ! So glad you are doing Transport Fever !!! I downloaded the map and playing along. Keep it going. Might want to look into Oil in Texas, gotta love the Oil rush in the USA. It made millions for the train industry. Ps you dont need so many signals on the train line. Cant wait for the next one!!!!!
Just a thought would it be cheaper to add a train but instead of doubling the track set the trains to go station 1 to 2 and back to 1. And then the other train Station 2 to 3 then back to 2. Yes the track is needed further down the line but maybe that micro management can help reduce the overall cost.
Really glad you decided to play this again! I love to watch it. Maybe the developers will consider converting it to Playstation eventually. I would love to play it, too.

Your vehicles spend a lot of their time running empty. Try bringing a resource to a factory and use the same vehicles to bring back the product that the factory produces to a city. (making a triangle/loop kind of system) This way vehicles only run empty from the city to the new pickup. Currently all your vehicles run empty about 50% of the time.....
food and grain use different wagons. your better off starter with fuel, as crude, oil, fuel, all use the same wagon. plus it's a 3 phase chain, easier to always run full.
You might have fixed it but I'm only on episode 1 right now so we'll see if this comment is late. Think about short lines. Quick money makers they only run shorter runs (short lines). Normally we run them from cities to industries. Or from hubs.
Just got the game on ps5. How do you get this map ie what code and setting you have? On freeplay there is no choice for whole usa i believe. Just random maps
Pretty Much the Idea is to Pay off the Loans As SOON as possible. Not hold onto it. You had over a Million dollars could have paid off 1 million dollars of that Loan. Yes its only $50,000 per year. But that is still $50,000 per year being Wasted. The Idea is to pay it all off, not have to pay any interest At all. Let the game Run and build up money again, pay off more of the loan. IE, just got 500,000$ pay loan off. That way You can just take out another $500,000 to $5 million as soon as you get read to build, buy, whatever. Pretty much you are just bleeding money away with keeping that interest going. Pay it off as SOON as possible Every Time. also taking only small amounts out at a time too, Not full $5 million/ Max amount of money right away.

Kansas City was historically a hub for rail transport here, so it makes sense to use it like that on this map
