Don't Look Under the Bed also had controversy with the kiss at the end. As a kid, you don't realize the scope of the kiss being such uncharted ground, but in recent years an interview came out with the director revealing that he had to fight for the kiss to be kept in, because Disney executives were worried about the southern affiliates being against mixed race kissing. Ty Hodges also mentioned it on Christy Carlson Romano's channel. Much respect to the director. My unpopular Halloween opinion has always been Don't Look Under the Bed >>>> Halloweentown, so finding that out only gave me more appreciation for the movie as an adult.
God, Disney has always been so backwards. Nickelodeon was airing movies and TV shows with interracial kisses since its inception. Yet another reason that Are You Afraid of the Dark? will always surpass any Disney Channel movie! (Not to mention, AYAOTD didn't shy away from the very real, grim topic of death and murder -- even of children.) Side note, Don't Look Under the Bed >>>>> Halloweentown is the correct opinion!
It's honestly crazy that Disney would be worried about such a thing in the early 2000s, as if interracial marriage hadn't been legal for 50 years at point.
I never watched the 4th installment of Halloween Town, but learning that they recast Kimberly J. Brown for no reason kind of irks me. Typically they'll do that if the actor/actress is difficult to work with, but Kimberly would frequent a Starbucks that I used to work at and she was always sweet and pleasant. Disney tends to hyper-focus on one kid/teen star at a time, so its likely that they wanted to mold Sara Paxton into a Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato type. She can sing so it would make sense that they would push for her to be cast in shows/movies to build a following.
"Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire" was literally the first thing I watched when I got Disney+. I liked it because the Dad from "The Nanny" was in it, as well as one of the aunt's from "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" and I watched it every time it was on tv.
The lady that plays the dumb woman in Twitches actually still plays that dumb role soooo well. She is in Schitts Creek and the mayors wife and it's basically the same character except she has some sweet small town charm added to it. She also has a role in the new movie crawlspace that again is the same but she does soooo well. I have fallen in love with her as a actress so much over the years.
I can't believe you left out "My Babysitter's a Vampire" !! It was one of my favorite DCOMs ever and the show was pretty great too. Great vid besides that :)
so My Babysitter's a Vampire was actually a Canadian Teletoon original movie! it did air in the US on disney channel, but since it's not technically a DCOM, I didn't include it. definitely still an iconic kids halloween tv film though, I remember watching it on disney channel when it came out!
Nathan Stephenson aka “Griffin from Degrassi” was actually a main character on another “The N” show called Radio Free Roscoe. It actually came on right after Degrassi at one point(this was when The N was a time slot for teens on the kid’s channel Noggin, before it merged with Nickelodeon). Radio Free Roscoe was pretty good and has a super catchy theme song.
Here's my issue with Halloweentown also ;;SOPHIE WAS CLEARLY THE MORE POWERFUL WITCH WHERE IS HER SPINOFF GIVE US SOPHIE THE PSYCHIC FROG-LOCK MAKING QUEEN
The conflict of 'Invisible Sister" reminds me of another DCOM/fever dream 'Wish Upon a Star' which has the honor of being where I learned what virginity meant. It's a 'body-swap with someone until you learn to live in their shoes' story, but despite having a LOT of adult themes and staring two pretty well known actresses (Katherine Heigl and Danielle Harris) no one ever talk about it. You should check it out if you haven't seen it.
Tower of terror was also the original giant drop ride at Disneyland (that’s since been changed to guardians of the galaxy😕) and I think might also be in that weird category of Disney movie that gets made AFTER a ride is in one of the parks, like the first Pirates of The Caribbean movie was
Halloweentown deserves a good rewatch right about now And also I’d be down for a whole channel that just points out when a Degrassi alum is in a movie/TV show
I'm not sure if it technically counts as a DCOM, and it's not quite a Halloween movie, but Susie Q is a movie I saw on the Disney Channel, and I remember it being darker than most other movies on that channel. It wasn't really scary, but two teenagers die in the opening, and it was all about a girl's ghost. Not really Hallween vibes, but kind of! It was really fun to revisit these with this video, and you constantly recognizing actors from Degrassi was really funny.
Susie Q came out in 1996 when they were called "Disney Channel Premiere Films." It annoys me that people refuse to include them among lists of DCOMs. It's the same thing, just a different name. Susie Q is also *way* better than almost anything Disney Channel has put out in the past 20 years.
I'm so ready for Halloween and clearly TH-cam knows since they just recommended this to me. As much as Halloweentown is the quintessential Halloween DCOM and I love it, it's my #2. Don't Look Under the Bed is definitely my #1. Also, a lot of DCOMs were shot in Canada after a certain year, so you'll see a ton of recognizable Canadian actors.
Don’t look under the bed is one of my FAVORITE Disney movies ever. I’m lowkey biased cause I had a crush on the boogieman ( both the male and female one but in there non boogieman form of course) Also the male boogieman is literally so funny and entertaining to me
Girl vs monster wants to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer so bad. It's made even more evident but the fact there were literally two different buffy episodes that have pretty much the same villain. One where people's nightmares come to life and feed off people's fear and the other who is basically fear incarnate which again feeds off fear.
Don’t look under the bed is one of my favorite Disney movies I’ve always been into “creepy” things that most kids were easily scared by like goosebumps, haunting hour, Coraline probably why I like horror now also I’ve always hated the recast in Halloween town
I love your videos so much. I was literally so depressed when I started watching this and you distracted me and make me feel like I was talking to a friend. Thank you I adore you.
I don’t recall “Don’t Look Under The Bed” being scary as a kid. It was odd and a bit creepy and a little gross, but I guess I just never really got scared of that stuff. Even goosebumps wasn’t creepy to me. It could be my parents didn’t shelter me from watching lore grown up shows and such, but I just found it on the spooky/creepy side.
Tower of Terror was technically a Wonderful World of Disney Movie, but I'm happy you included it on the list because it is my personal favorite Halloween movie. Such an underrated classic!
I liked dont look under the bed better than Halloweentown but i have kind of a weird perspective cause i only watched them both recently as an adult in my 30's, we didn't have disney channel growing up, so i dont know which i would have preferred if i saw them as a kid. I was however completely terrified by the Wishbone version of the legend of Sleepy hollow as a kid 😂
I've had so many people say "what about this movie?" that I'm thinking maybe next year I'll do a "kids halloween movies I missed in the last video" type video lol
I loved Don't Look Under the Bed as a kid, but they stopped playing it on Disney Channel, and then when illegal streaming became a thing, I couldn't find it ANYWHERE. At one point I got into an argument with another person over whether or not it even existed. Finally they put it on Disney+ and I was avenged.
Daaaaamn. You didn’t get far enough in Degrassi to realize there were THREE actors in Twitches Too, and you were just talking about her! Cece Goldsworthy!
I watched Halloweentown for the first time last year and I was DELIGHTED! And we did it while carving pumpkins. It was absolutely magical as someone who just likes cozy Halloween
This is such an old video at this point but I feel compelled to say that there is a third Degrassi actor in Twitches : That really dumb woman, the first actress plays Eli's mom (as well as Jocelyn in Schitt's Creek) and I love her
Don't Look Under The Bed was one of my favorites growing up, it was so creative and unique. But I never knew people complained about it and they stopped airing it, so when my sisters and I saw it on Disney+ we were so excited to watch it! But I'd have to say Halloweentown is also my favorite, with Mom's Got a Date as my second. I really miss that era of Disney and wish they'd make more fun/spooky Halloween movies again.
I remember a rumor floating around that the reason the recasted for holloween town is because they wanted to turn it into a TV show and the new Marnie wasn't gaining popularity.... Don't know how true this is it I was very young when I was reading about it

My personal top 5 Halloween DCOM's are: 1. Don't Look Under The Bed 2. Halloweentown 2: Kallibar's revenge 3. Phantom of the Megaplex 4. Tower of Terror 5. Under Wraps
I actually like Return to Halloweentown more than Halloweentown High. I didn't really like that most of the movie was spent in the human world and most of the characters were pretending to blend in with humans. I don't like that they recast Kimberly J. Brown either. She definitely makes the character much more immature than she should be at that point, but I still liked seeing Halloweentown. It gave the movie a bit more of a Halloween vibe than Halloweentown High did for me. I agree with your points on the chosen one narrative and the plot in general. It wasn't the best note for the series to go out on, but despite the recasting, I didn't dislike it nearly as much as other fan seem to. I do want to check out Invisible Sister since I've heard good things about it.
Okay, but I know this is kind of random but I would watch a breakdown of Flight 29 Down, if you would go easy enough on it. It was a cute show and when I was ten I was incredibly invested and took that show very seriously. Also, apparently one of the actors was like, 25 when he was in that show. And I was none the wiser???? He was literally 25 when he played someone MAYBE 18 at the oldest and my dumb kid brain was never the wiser. He played Cody. (Whom I had a very big crush on)
I actually loved that show as a kid! I think it aired on Discovery Kids. honestly I would love to make a video that's a Discovery Kids deep dive, I used to watch a ton of shows on that channel
I was on tenterhooks waiting to see if you would ever mention that the dumb lady from Twitches is Eli's mom in Degrassi (best known as Jocelyn from Schitt's Creek).
Phantom of the megaplex is the most random movie to have left a strong impression on child me. I dont remember any of it besides brief flashes and that i was scared of it?
Ngl I watched Invisible Sister in like a DCom Halloween themed marathon thanks to this video and ended up thinking it was pretty cute. The dynamic between the sisters actually got to me. Tbh the performances from the leads I thought were pretty good. Ngl I recognized the older sister from Keyan’s video on Mighty Med which is a tv show kinda after my time, but I think it’s kinda a widespread opinion that the girl playing Skylar can’t act bc it was her first job, but I thought she was pretty good here! The funniest thing abt the movie is that the two sisters do not look anything alike, but you kinda have to buy into like, fairy tale / masquerade trope / theater rules and pretend wearing a mask would convince everyone that the one girl is her sister. I think most ppl find that immersion breaking, but I find it hilarious and I love it. Interestingly tho, both actresses are mixed Filipino (As a fellow Filipino American that may or may not have influenced me to be a little biased and root for these girls & their careers lol). Also you’re right about the himbo boyfriend, he rules. Twitches was also in the Halloween marathon, & I have to say. I think the Mowry sister’s performances really carry the movie, they’re really great. It’s cute & I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t help but notice it’s cheapness. There’s so much weird ADR, and the limited sets detracts from the realness of Coventry so it kinda just feels like an empty castle lol. No Halloweentown movies bc I was kinda saving them for later. Bc they really at the GOAT. I was in Oregon & stopped by the town where it was filmed. Which coincidentally is also where the back alley bookstore scene in twilight was filmed!
Today I learned When Good Ghouls Go Bad was a Fox Family Channel movie and not Disney. Guess that's what happens when you grew up in Canada with the Family Channel having mostly DCOM movies, but some other ones mixed in as well to spice it up.
I know this is an old video but I just found your channel. While I definitely agreed with your list I was so sad one of my favs 'When Good Ghouls Go Bad' didn't make the cut. But then I realized even though I watched it on Disney...it's actually a fox movie. Still highly recommend it though
One more thing, I was sad Now You See It wasn’t on here. But alas, I suppose that was not a Halloween movie. Now that I think about it. They just played that movie around Halloween a lot.
The dumbest revelation I had while watching this video is that if Manny married Craig in Degrassi then her name would’ve been Manny Manning.
I think Manuela manning is worse lol I can barely say it 😅
She could totally keep her Maiden name. 🤣
OH MY GOD I WAS LITERALLY THINKING OF THAT YESTERDAY!!!!!!
I remember when I met Kimberly J Brown I told her that Halloweentown was one of my favorite "trilogies". She laughed and agreed. Super sweet woman
they literally could’ve made halloweentown high a series and i wouldn’t complain like halloweentown has so much potential for universe building
Is THAT ____ from DEGRASSIIII??? is the best thing to come out of literally any media made in Canada
I can't believe that you didn't point out that the "dumb lady" you liked so much in Twitches is Eli's mom Cece from Degrassi!

I was 5 when I first watched don't look under the bed, and it was the first time a movie truly scared me. I had nightmares for weeks.
also fun fact: jennifer robertson, the woman you praised who was recast in the second twitches movie, also plays jocelyn on schitt's creek
oh I had no idea!! I'm so glad she's been in some good stuff, like I said, she's good!

I feel the same way about the Halloweentown trilogy, but the fourth abomination has the best song in it. It's a bop and confusingly adult.

Omg thank you now I don't feel alone I also didn't watch SpongeBob unless forced at school
Billiam (on TH-cam) has a video about the show, if you're interested.
The actress that got recast in Twitches 2 is also Eli’s mom in Degrassi.
I was on tenterhooks waiting to see if you would ever mention that the dumb lady from Twitches is Eli's mom in Degrassi (best known as Jocelyn from Schitt's Creek).
i am so hurt that the scream team is number 12
It’s so fucking gooooood this is a robbery
This was a dope video tho!!!!
Phantom of the megaplex is the most random movie to have left a strong impression on child me. I dont remember any of it besides brief flashes and that i was scared of it?
I actually love return to halloweentown- probably my favorite.
Official petition to put Tower of Terror on Disney+
I think the dopey guardian woman from Twitches is also Eli's mom in Degrassi
Every time you said "boogeyman" my brain went: boogeyPERSON~~~^.^
I know I’m late to this video, but being born in the year 2000 and never watching SpongeBob is insane to me
Today I learned When Good Ghouls Go Bad was a Fox Family Channel movie and not Disney. Guess that's what happens when you grew up in Canada with the Family Channel having mostly DCOM movies, but some other ones mixed in as well to spice it up.
Tbh I would’ve put Phantom of the Megaplex last just because of Mickey Rooney 💀
I know this is an old video but I just found your channel. While I definitely agreed with your list I was so sad one of my favs 'When Good Ghouls Go Bad' didn't make the cut. But then I realized even though I watched it on Disney...it's actually a fox movie. Still highly recommend it though
Ok but Sean's mom is also in twitches too
What did you think of the newest Halloween DCOM, “Under Wraps” ? it’s a remake of the old one, it’s cute for a modern take.
I loved girl vs monster when I was younger I sang the songs constantly dcoms were my reason to live growing up lol
One more thing, I was sad Now You See It wasn’t on here. But alas, I suppose that was not a Halloween movie. Now that I think about it. They just played that movie around Halloween a lot.
