My thermostat’s temperature was stuck at 68 all winter, but that was fine. I went to run my AC but the thermostat went to 74. The ac did turn on for about 10 mins and blew cold air. Sounds like the thermostat right?

Hello, I love in South Florida and I have a brand new AC (2 weeks old) ever since it was installed, it runs for about 7 minutes every hour or so. The Thermostat states the temperature desired is reached, and therefore it just turns once (for 7 minutes) every hour.
We set the temp for 72 before bed, and it will just run these 7 mins per hour to maintain that temp.
Now, if I lower the temp by a couple of degrees then it will run for about 12 minutes… However, still just once per hour.
Please let me know what could be the issue. Brand new Ac/Thermostat.

My window ac wouldn't power on, I opened it up, looked at the electronic boards. Nothingwrong with anything, but there was a ton of gooey build up on the bottom. I threw the ac outside, hosed the entire bottom interior until everything that looked nasty was washed away, i then wiped alot of everything down, it now works, putting cold air out right now( i didnt flip it on its side, it stayed upright the whole time

I’m a DIY GUY, I was messing with my THERMOSTHAT THE OTHER day cause the heater won’t turn on. I used a paperclip as a jumper wire to bypass the thermosthat, the heater didn’t not start. Now the AC WONT WORK . Could I have shorted the thermosthat or shorted something in the air handler like a fuse or something ? I didn’t know what I was doing maybe I touch the other end of the paperclip to the wrong wire in the thermosthat ?

Check it with a circuit tester or multimeter to know for sure, they're inexpensive and easy to use. You could also have damaged the connectors or knocked a wire loose while your were trying to jump it.

My situation is weird. Sometimes, the air conditioner works fine. Other times, it won't come on. When that happens, if I take the face of the thermostat off, and put it back on, the air conditioner will come back on. You'd think the problem is with the thermostat, but I got a new thermostat, and I have the same problem. Both have new batteries. I even tried stripping the wires to expose fresh copper in hopes of getting a better connection, but the problem persists. Sometimes, I'll take the face off, and put it back on, and the air conditioner won't come back on. But if I do it three or four times, then it will come on. It's a real pain in the neck waking up hot in the middle of the night and having to get up to take the face of my thermostat off and put it back on. If anybody has any idea what the problem could be, please let me know.
