Great video, John! It's clear you put a lot of time and care into putting these together and the quality (including your images) is fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
I love that you always say the lengths in centimeters too. It’s really a pain when people say only inches, foot, pounds. I always have to google it or ask alexa to help me. Thank you, loving your content!
Thank you. You are so welcome! ! Never really stood just using the imperial system when the rest of the world is on metric. Despite what most Americans think, the rise of the world Does exist ! 🤣
This was great! I'm gonna add this modifier to the wish list. I've seen you use this before and loved the results. Just one more set of setups to play with.
Thank you for the video John. I don't currently own an indirect octa. I do have the Westcott 28" and 50" Apollo softboxes which are indirect. The largest Octa I have is a 170cm direct with inner baffle and outer diffuser, gives off a really nice light but I would like to try an indirect octa at some point. Mine tends to live at the back at the studio on a 1200ws head as an on axis fill but it does make for a beautiful key light also. People have asked why I use the 1200ws pack as a fill light. Simple really I can use it at distance with the 170cm Octa as a fill and still maintain short flash durations. My 600ws heads have plenty of power to be used as key or other lights on set but would suffer on flash duration when used as the fill.
Re: feathering your soft box. I 100% agree that it really only affects the bg lighting in any significant way. That’s literally the only reason I feather my key and fill.
Thanks John for the great instructions. I also use Elinchrom studio flash devices myself. They are awesome. A wonderful spring to you from here in Finland. And welcome to visit here too. ;)
Love those big indirect softboxes The downside is that they are not easily affordable or transportable. Therefore I use a 180cm umbrella with diffusion in a similar way. Greetings from Berlin
John, does the Elinchrom FIVE hold the Rotolux Softbox 175cm? My friend has this combo and the light just keeps tipping down & unfortunately she hasn’t been able to find an answer as to why. My Elinchrom FIVE paired with the 190cm litemotiv works but her rotolux 175 doesn’t. Thought I’d ask if you’ve tried it.
Gorgeous lighting! But good grief, 1250 euro (or 1370 US$ equivalent) for a 190cm octabox! I am tempted to start fidgeting on my own and save a thousand euro for the lens fund.
Sorry but u don't need this brand to produce great results.. i produce great photos with even with cheap products. I fell for the same speech in the early days of my Photography. What a waste is money and time....
So many gems in this breakdown about using not only the modifier but light in general!
Thats great to hear. Thank you so much!
I'm so plewsed with this video. You didn't make it about the softbox but more about Light Education. Thank you so much for making this video
Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful!

Can't thank you enough for all the precious information that I've been learning from you John! God bless you, good luck and keep creating! ❤🙏
You are very welcome! That is great too hear and thanks for watching!
One of the best videos I’ve seen in a while. Definitely going to try the rim lighting effect by blocking the softbox.
Awesome, thank you!
So many great tips, even if you are not using this big modifier. Thanks John 🙏🏾
Glad it was helpful!
I really appreciate your teaching, I have used this soft box , and love it.
Thank you so much!
This was absolutely fantastic and I’ve been shooting for 15 years!
Wow! Thank you so much!
Another great video John!
Thanks Frank! I really appreciate it!

@@JohnGress Imagine what it would be like to use the imperial system for lenses? Haha
3.35" f/1.2 ---> 85mm f/1.2
1.96" f/1.4 ----> 50mm f/1.4
;-)
A lot of good information in here. Great Job John.
Thank you sir! I hope you’re having a great day!!
I start to try bigger deep umbrellas, 165cm white interior, and man... the light is sweet!!! Amazing videos as usually!
Thanks! I really appreciate it!

It’s probably a bigger deal on smaller boxes or less even boxes.
Great guide, John! Really helpful stuff. Love how you put this together! 🙌
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
thanks for another great tutorial john

Thank you so much! Maybe I will make it there some time too =)
Is that a new lighting setup on your background? Love it, great video as always, keep it up!
Thanks! The video of me? I redecorated my office last summer.

Great Video as usual!

Thank you for making this video. The softbox is too big for my home studio; however, I want to know what light stand you’re using. Thank you. 🙏
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful! Here is the info for the stand: Studio Titan Rack & Pinion Geared Crank Stand STA-06-200

Hi, can I use this adpter Fomito Bowens Speedring to Elinchrom Mount to use Godox heads with Elinchrom Octa Indirect ? Thanks.
You can use Bowens to Elinchrom adapters in this softbox.

Sorry I haven’t tried it. A friend has that octa and a brx and has never said anything negative to me about it.
I wouldn't like to know how much a grid would cost for that beast, John.
I wonder if they even make one
Can i use a beauty dish or a reflector with a grid instead of top light?
You could but the shadows on the face would be fairly harsh and unflattering.
@@JohnGress Even with difuser on a beauty dish?
@@mordavian A diffuser only affects specularity, size relative to the subject controls softness of the light.
