Wow. So clean. Not even trying to blast away with speed and show. Hangs on with wisdom and no rush to show off. Then does the most amazing things and never appears to be trying. Complex. Perfect drum tuning. Mature. Stealthy. Pure.
Definição de som limpo, execução precisa e impecável, técnicas esmagadoras, bom senso, extrema versatilidade , complexidade e bom gosto. SIMON é um gênio lendário da bateria 🫡👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
THANK YOU. I hate it so much. Rest In Peace Aaron Spears.. But I couldnt listen to him play. 4 bars of time - 32 bars of completely mindless shredding.
Super relaxed! Looks so easy when Simon plays. So much time, so much control. Must be the brand of sneakers he’s wearing😅 Will buy the album by the way. 🥁
@jerrymckenzie1858 The same here! Playing hihat/snare crossed right over left is as illogical as if a drummer would play left over right ride/snare...or as steering your car/bike with hands crossed.
I have played open handed for over forty years! But I tell you, I still have so many problems with my weird style though i.e., half left hand lead, half right hand lead issues.
@@jeroenvermunt862 Well, it's not quite that illogical. If you are right handed and right footed, the hi hat logically goes on the left, under the left foot, bass drum on the right under the right foot and the snare drum in between the left and right legs. You would tend to play the ride instrument with your lead hand- the right in this case- therefore playing the hi hats with your arms crossed and the ride cymbal on the right with open arms. Of course, with modern hardware; cable hi hats, left and right configured double pedals, you don't have these restrictions anymore and can put anything just about anywhere. Then you have the anomalies, like Cobham and Will Kennedy, and Lenny White who are left handed but play open handed on a right handed kit.
Ive always tried to get my left and right hands and feet to be equal in application..takes a lot of work and practice..Phillips has done his homework..music reading, rudemental, master of his craft.
YES it DOES make sense lol BUT! People like Simon and others who are ambidextrous or very close to being ambidextrous it comes very natural and easy to them. Yes I do play open handed a lot, even when I used to gig many times a week but it is very un natural to me and took a very very long time to get down. So bottom line for some people it comes easy / natural for others it could take 20 years to really get down pat. Each individual is different. Don't know if you surf or skateboard; if you 'switch foot' and stand thee opposite way yes many can do that, lol but if you dropping in at Pipeline or a very hollow wave not many can make the drop switch foot; it's easy to say, "you should be able to switch foot." Again easier said than done for most people. Peace
Love the multi-angles. Really gives a sense of the comfort and ease in Simon's playing on his massive kit (which has been this configuration for decades now), not to mention the sense of purpose for such a kit to provide such melodicism...AND getting a great look at those gorgeous Tama Stars. Holy Schnikes!
I can’t see any mics on the toms….is that just the sound of the toms in the overheads? If so, that’s pretty amazing! Simon has spoken of the main reason he tunes his toms high is for projection. A kit with more conventional lower tuned toms would not sound so balanced with just overhead mics.
Amazing as always. But what caught me by surprise is the mix. It looks like they're only using kick and overhead mics, no snare or tom mics in sight. I don't see any inside the shell either (may mount) Glorious sound.
A master technician and musician. Thank you Simon for inspiring so many. always select the best tone of rich shimmery cymbals. And that crazy open handed dexterity 🤪the bomb.
Sm27’s for overheads, modified B52 in kicks and a modified B52 in gong. That’s all I put on that kit that day. All we really had room for! For some reason they don’t have many inputs there!
There’s just no melody to this stuff. It’s bland. Kinda like progressive Eighties porn soundtracks. Instrumentation: sounds like keytars & that kinda fare. S’get an ear worm in there, Simon. No one’s questioning yer chops. ✌️🤷♂️

Well, It's Simon!
RIGHT ON!

It’s so relaxing hearing proper drumming instead of the now so common linear gospel shredding drumming style
I agree,
Amazed how quickly that style took over

I totally agree with you!!!

Will buy the album by the way. 🥁
Thank you all so much.
It's such a pleasure to hear Simon's kit mixed so nicely.
Summoning all the tones from these instruments of sound ! Refreshing !
Amazing! Like a fine wine!
Bordeaux red. The colour of the kit!! ❤😂
Way to go, Tama. That red finish is swwwweeeet.
Custom color?
Open handed playing makes so much sense to me.

Memorized every note. Just ..... incredible. Amazing. Thank you Simon and Protocol musicians. Drum assembly and percussion Virtuoso.
This is ridiculously good.
You sir are the reason why I even attempt to have the audacity to even attempt to try to do this. A total inspiration
what a sound...

What an absolutely beautiful looking and sounding kit! Only Simon can work his magic on such a grand kit!!
A true master of its craft
Ambidextrous on another level! Love this guy 👏

crunchy and concise!
The best 👌🤔🤔
Excellent!
I’m surprised he doesn’t have to stand up to hit those toms.😂 Fantastic groove as always from Sir Simon. 🔥

FROM,BAGONG ILOG PASIG M,FLORES STREET😂
Where the mics?
A couple KSM-32s as overheads. Must've been something in the bass drums too but I couldn't see much.
@@DrMackSplackem I think there mic inside the drum shell!

@@adamponce8121 I'm really impressed!!! Awesome!
@adamponce8121 Kit sounds killer with minimal micing! No need for any more.
Yeap.......taking my drums to the dumpster right now. 😞

4/4 + 3/4.
Or 7/4 if you like.
je suis un gros gros fan de simon.... est ce une maladie mentale
