- The new Honda CB1000 Hornet's are starting to hit the UK dealers. I have ordered the SP version but wanted to try the base mode to see how it rode before proceeding with my purchase.
Am I still buying one?

At last a review of the standard version, and glad it didn’t deliver any bad remarks. I have ordered the red one with the sport and style packs and should be picking it up next week (here in the Netherlands). Can’t wait to get on it 😊✌️
Veel plezier kerel. Rijdt voorzichtig!
HI CHOPISE .JUST ORDERED MY HONDA CB 1000 SP TO DAY ALL EXTRAS..AT HONDA NEWCASTLE STOKE.. STAFF BOTH CALLED STEVE .ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. AND I MADE SOME GOOD DISCOUNTS. .AND SORTED OUT CERAMIC COATING. .A GOOD MORNING .FELT WELL TREATED . KEEP MAKING VIDEOS .😎👍👍
Honda are listening to the market. 9k is a lot of money to most people, but when you look at the competition, its great value. Well done Honda
Love that grey colour! Can't believe you've nicked my Farnham Honda exclusive TH-camr privelages!! Great review matey.
Haha sorry Dan! Sure we can both operate from there 😄👍
That's life Dan, there's always competition in anything. It just makes the end result better for us IMO 😉
Thanks for this update! Americans are pining for this bike...Canadians get it and like to rub it in haha - hopefully we don't have to wait too long!
Delighted to see such a great bike at old school prices! Hope they sell a ton of em
Yt comments are great, Honda bring out a bike priced really well, great power ,no nonsense bike... And folk still not happy that it doesn't have a foot spa, or gin bar as standard...wtf!
Congratulations big fella. Lots of fun times coming up on the Hornet CB 1000 😀.
Very intriguing bike. Early congratulations on buying one and looking forward to the new content on it.
Unbelievable that hoda have done this bike at that price… hopefully other manufacturers will follow suit and drop their prices!!
Great bike 👌🏼
Thanks for the first review on British roads Chopsy. I've also ordered an SP and can't wait. I'm debating on changing the can for the SC Projects but the £1100 price is a bit salty. I'll probably go for an after market when they start arriving. Can't wait for the next installments 😁👍🏴🏍
It looks like the designers at Honda were given a 2017 Kawasaki Z1000 brochure, and told: "Like that"!
I absolutely disagree. Kawa makes really ugly naked bikes. This looks more like the streetfighter. Not a kawa
You must have a kawa or you wouldn say this 😂
@@juicy9592 Bro what are you smoking? This hornet looks already so outdated.
Looks like they were given a 5 year olds drawing of a pile of metal / just looks crap 🤷
@@sneakypotato4016i agree
Great vid as always, cheers. Be interesting to see which ‘essential’ mods you sort out on your SP version. I can see that exhaust being gently placed in the nearest skip. 😂
Here we g g g g go!
So many people seem to be wondering why anyone would buy any other bike than this, considering price to performance.
If I were looking for a naked bike with tons of power at a reasonable price, this bike makes sense.
I'm looking for all day comfort and the ability to handle a fair amount of luggage for multi-day tours. I also live in a country where I'm going 60-80kmh max most of the time of I didn't want to be caught by the fuzz. I've also only been riding 3 years.
Fab bike, they'll sell tons, but not for me.
Rode one today and liked it but also rode an MT09 which has better low down power for sure.
That red hornet in the showroom is mine. Tried out the demo one this afternoon. More than happy with that. I'm sure I don't need an extra 5bhp. Plus the red is just awesome, but I am getting a quick shifter fitted. Can't wait for it.
Lucky man!! 👍
@@LambChopRides Be interesting to see what you think about the SP and how you think it differs from the base model. When you get it.
could you get a quickshifter from the factory on the standard hornet or it's an aftermarket one ?
@@sural89 You can get it from factory, here in the Netherlands it is 250 euros to have it fitted from factory, a reasonable price for todays standards imo
I'd rather have a standard in red too...just worried about the longevity of a standard shock...6000miles on a Yamaha MT07 etc,is all they are made for,and they are light...happy travels!
Good shout doing the base model imo. Everyone else has focused entirely on the SP & if money is the name of the game, then a lot of people will go for 9k base model. Plus the SP post launch price will go up pretty soon & probably be closer to 11k than 10 within 12 months or so.
pick up SP yesterday great bike 10/10
Enjoy it
Nice Chopsie looking forward to your ownership content on the SP Honda are knocking it out the park on value for money machines at the moment! 🔥🔥
Strikes me as a reincarnated modernised 2006 FZ1 N with better fueling only the FZ1 was never cheap to buy.
Maybe Yamaha need a relaunch...never been a fan of the MT10...design was never right ,and it guzzles fuel like the pre-Opec days?
I don’t think it’s for me but well done Honda for selling a 1000cc bike at this price. Having said that I’ll def take one out for a spin to compare it with my MT10. Hopefully there will be a knock on effect with other manufacturers who are already dealing with the Chinese imports that are starting to look good enough for most people to consider them…
What a bike, I expect to see lots of these on the road this summer especially at £8999. Other manufacturers must be shocked and wondering how they will sell ltr bikes as most are now well over £10000. White one please!
Nice one Chopsie. Looks like pretty good value. Look forward to the SP vids 👍
I rode that bike at Farnham Honda on Thursday- wow
Another great, honest review Chopsy!! Funny to see you ride past the end of my road as you came through Alton though 😊. I’ve also ordered the SP version - scheduled for delivery in April/May and can’t wait!! Keep up the great work!
Hi Chopsy,
Seems like a good bargain😃!
Looking forward to your SP-introduction💪
Nice restrained riding on a new bike, LC. Seems like a very good bike.
now that is a superb bike Chopsy good to see you enjoying life big fella
Cracking review John and I think it’s a stunner of a bike. Enjoy yours mate. 😍👌
Thanks Dave 👍
Seems like a cracking deal, looking forward to the videos I’ll be sticking with my 1290r gen 3 for another year or so.
Nicely done LCR the bike looks amazing. Can’t wait to see what your new bike. 😁
That has to be a winner at that money
The sp is twenty thousand in Canada
Not such a good deal without an imu
@@brentmalach5617in europe about 12 000 € standart 10 000 €
Awesome video 👍. No nasty surprises!. Looks like Honda will shake up the market with a bike that will make a lot of people smile. Nice one Chops 😎.
The first generation had a 180 on the rear, I liked it better than the second generation one. Im looking forward to getting a spin on this one.
Mate - congrats. I am proper jealous here in the US where we don't have this model, or the new 600RR or the NT1100. There is no love from Honda for us over here!
Get my SP tomorrow and will start my journey on uploading content
Do acceleration vids I’ll sub
When you review, please let us know your height and how your legs feel on the bike. Strongly considering one but I'm 6'1" with 34" inseam so I need some space
Nice one mate. The dash is ok and now used across several platforms now from each of the 500’s, the 650’s, etc. it works, looks good and is easy to use. You can also fit an aftermarket cruise control system that does look OEM as it does have ride by wire.
looks like a great bike for for the price for sure , can't wait to see you pick it up , I'm jealous 👍🏼😎
Can't wait to see yours with the full system and ECU flash🤣🚀🔥🔥
Such a good value proposition. I'm pulling the trigger on a new bike in March. Moving up from a CB650R to a ZX10R.
I would seriously consider this but there is no news on its availability in my market and dealers don't even know the bike exists apparently lol
I've got a CB650F and after a couple years of riding I'm also considering the leap up to a litre bike. Not sure about the Zx10r though 😂 that thing is a beast.
Looks fantastic value, what a scoop Chopsy!
If it’s anything like the 750 Hornet, you can access the torque control setting without going right into the preset each time. It’s still fiddly, but it’s slightly quicker. 👍 It’ll be in the manual, you do it with the joystick selector and you can adjust them from the main dashboard. Might be different on the 1000 of course!
It would be really cool if you could put a microphone near the exhaust, so there can be a minute or so of pure exhaust sound
Great vid chopsy il pick my sp next 25 plate cant wait 👍
👍 Good to hear you’re excited to get the new bike. You mentioned the standard one comes in red but forgot to show us!! You big old tease you!!! 😝🥱🤭🤪
Nice Chopsy , in this day and age that is a lot of bike for the cash , can't beat the inline four engines sound etc 👍 I always found the nissin brakes good on the early speedtriples as good as the early brembos , need to see it in the flesh I think but bargain of the decade so be interesting to see how other manufacturers compete on the price .!!! Bloody wet roads there today 😮 great stuff chopsy .👍
V4’s like Aprilia sound way better than this muted bike - on stock exhaust. And some bargains to be had at this time of year.
Interesting to see a review of the Kwaka 900Z SE and your Hornet SP? The suspension difference and brakes are the main things that would make me think about getting the SP - not the extra 5 bhp. Nice if you can get a cowl to cover the pillion seat. The Red paint job for mine.
Cruise control would be handy on speed camera alley on a high performance bike like that. I have adaptive cruise control on my Suby- 100k down to 40kmh without touching anything.
Some of these comments are insane! "It hasn't got this" "it hasn't got that" 🤣🤣. If you want "this" and "that" go and pay a few thousand quid more get those things!! 🤣🤣. For me the looks are good and the price is outstanding. I'm seriously thinking about the S.P.
Well said!
Me too.
That's why it's 10k.ffs people.
Agree completely, its price alone shoots into a new realm. Of course it’s not a top tier performance machine. But hot damn for what they’ve given us for the price it’s very good
This one is 9k so even cheaper
Comprehensive user review as always, Chopsy. Honda factory fitted heated grips vital so always impressed you never mention cold hands in the winter reviews! I must also be the only person who loves the indicator lights always being on - makes for a premium bike look beyond the imposing presence to ensure oncoming cars or car ahead in rear view pay attention and can see it is not just another car,
I can't tell you how happy I am to see a proper key, in a barrel in the usual place, instead of some keyless bobbins. I'm still not keen on the styling, it's not ugly but I prefer both previous styles for the big CBs, the neo-cafe and the plainer, big-headlight naked, and I still think this new one looks too much like the Kawi Z1000, but overall seems a solid bike for a good pricepoint. Hope it does well for Honda.
Absolutely crying out for you and gregorio to do a comparison of this and the Suzuki gsx s 1000
Cannot wait for you to get your SP and mod it Chopsy styleee 😎
This and the new gb350 are going to put Honda firmly back in the game again 😊
Looks like a great bike. I can see these being a good seller for Honda, that’s if you can get hold of one! Bet early bikes will be snapped up, fantastic price.
Expect we’ll see you out on a Goldwing in the near future
Fantastic early review chopsy 😊😊 and appreciate thr standard bike. Btw 8.25... 180/55 tyre, my last 3Japanese bikes had them, (firestorm,zx9r fazer thou) have you had a time lapse hahaha
Be a great bike probably sell every one as seems such excellent value, and spec for the money,,be looking forward to your purchase,,more class videos,,from Northern Ireland
The exhaust valve on the sp will be more trouble than it's worth. On the base model, remove the end can and run it. If it's considerably louder then an aftermarket can will probably give you a similar power increase.
i cant wait to see your sp, and a real spirited ride in your usual lcr vibe lol, im also quite interested in this one, my first bike was a honda cg125 then a cb125r then finally got round to doing my bigboy test on a cb650r, wasnt keen on the cb1000 so strayed away from honda, curently triumph but now there seemes to bee a bit of exitement to return back to the brand im just in that conflicted stage to sell my street tripple and get one of these or wait a year and keep the tripple as a second bike... hmmmmm decisions dessisions lol
I accidentally put a deposit down on one last week, I am testing it tomorrow !! So so excited, lamb chops what options did you spec on yours? I’ve ordered an SP version too!
Accidentally 😂😂😂
@ the dealer suggested putting a small deposit fully refundable as dates are apparently already slipping into July 205 for new orders, they had 4 in the showroom already sold, and no one had test ridden any yet which is scary ! Parting with 10k having not ridden one madness lol
I've gone completely stock for the moment.. but probably going to cave and put the sport pack on haha
@@LambChopRides quick shifter is a must in my opinion as a minimum as it’s so cheap!
@@LambChopRides Heated grips and belly pan for me!! Don't like the combinations in the package. Will wait for an aftermarket fly screen. The Honda one looks like it won't do anything!
I'll take 2 2GO !!! Great review as always - TC is always such a bother fer us OLD schooler's- That bike will outlive us at this point #HondaPowersports
That gunmetal silver looks glorious.
I can't get over that frame ! Rest is ok
Great job putting a narrower rear tyre on it.
i sat on one yesterday and its to small for me at 6.2 feet but it looks beautifully made typical honda
For me this about the only 1000c i can actually fit on at 5"4 and 28" inside leg! I am tempted but my CBR650R is only just 10 months old. 😃
I'm 6'2 and it's ok
Chopsy, I thought you didn't like inline fours anymore. Can't believe you ordered one
Thanks for a great review, I love a red bike and black engine, a great combo, so that would be my choice, shame about missing out on the SP goodies though, mainly the QS for me but I can specify it and then the Ohlins, quality suspension. Surely cruise control is for (sports) tourers rather than nakeds, and while Brembo's are superior, I'm reassured with your comments on the Nissens.
About the vibes then, isn't that part of the connection between you and the bike, who wants to be insulated from a motorbike? Wouldn't that be a bit soulless, it's not a fridge you're on.
The only other issue might be an uncomfortable saddle but at 13 stone I'll take my chances that my arse will fit ok!
Well, it seems like Honda are aware that the Chinese are coming, hopefully other manufacturers recognise the threat. My favourite brand, Triumph, are alive to it with their 400 range but their new Speed Triple, lovely bike but - £17k for a naked🤔
If you watch the right side of the bike your see the budget cuts: open wires, bolts, bit and bobs and tie wraps. I was called a conspiracy dude at the pre-lauch videos when i asked they never showed that side.
I like this bike, will get up to Fowlers & test ride one & real credit to Honda for not ripping us off but I genuinely don’t get why everyone thinks this is a bargain, it’s absolutely the right money for what it is, a 2017 bike with a TFT & basic electronics. I’m sure it’s a great bike, Honda reliability & it’ll sell well but the cost of new bikes has gone ridiculous which makes this look like a bargain imo.
Agree, and some un-Honda like poor welding on that exhaust. 😂
A sensibly priced sporty naked bike, i hope they sell ALL of them and this sets a precedent.
Bonkers that that you could almost buy 2 for the price of the updated speed triple, a lot of bike for the money! I reckon Evotech will do a rectifier cover soon enough!
Great review mate, bike not my cup of tea but great for money
Been waiting for this
Great first ride review - thanks. Apparently Australia is getting only the SP version, so the decision to SP or not is not one we need to complicate our lives with. Honda has thrown the cat amongst the sub S1000R pigeons.
A really fun bike for lower mid sized bike money, nice 👍🏻
do the GB350s, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts
Nice, I'm on the 2014 CB1000R hornet sp
No info on pricing yet in Australia but I'd imagine it's going to sit around $15,000-$17000 AUD. Competing with the likes of the Yamaha MT09, Kawasaki Z900 etc. can't wait for it!
Managed to get a test ride of a base model Hornet today, what a thing! Fantastic engine, and the standard suspension is really well judged, not sure the extra bling of the SP would be noticeable on the road at least. Also heard the SP has been pushed back to July/August?
I was lucky got one of the last early SP, think the next ones are August..
@ lucky bugger! Be interesting to see if you notice much improvement over the base model, especially on the road. I always found Hondas a little soft and under damped, especially my Crossrunner, but not so the base Hornet. Although I did ride to my dealer on my ratty R1100GS, so anything after that would feel Rolls Royce refined, with MotoGP power and brakes 😂
These remind me a lot of my 2017 CB1000RA3FE, which also has an older fireblade engine. Possibly just a modern version on that.
I was waiting for this but got a cracking deal on a MT10(£10500 brand new) I was worried about size as I’m 20.5 stone and 6’2”
I didn’t like being stuck in the seat on bmw XR so still happy with my choice
Wow good deal mate where did u get that please
@ dealer had a event weekend in December and as it’s my 4th mt from them they gave me £300 extra discount than the event price
Hi Chopsy, great video as usual. Is this bike good for touring? Is there a windscreen option?
I def think the SP is the one to get, although can see the fun for the channel in getting the base one and adding your own farkles... but having the Ohlins and quickshifter and better brakes out the box does save a spend and def worth the £1k more on purchase price.
Yeah absolutely agree Pete, I'm really not a fan of matt paint though as sure it will mark very easy..But could have it all painted a lovely gloss black instead haha 👍
@@LambChopRides or get a fancy custom LCR wrap like you did with the 690! 🙂
Yeah good idea! 😄👍
I hope this bike comes to the USA
I like it. I’m the owner of an SFV4s grey nero and its face looks somewhat similar. BMW have also copied Duc in that regard.
150hp only sounds ‘small’ in comparison to the nutty 200+ figures of other hyper nakeds. You’d only notice it on a track straight.
Smack an under cowel on her to hide those pipes and replace that hideous exhaust and she’d be mint.
Would love to see you test the newHonda gb350 looks great for a retro
Yeah going to try it next week 👍
4:50 what engine is not a bit buzzy at some random rev range?
Cheers for the review.
I tried one this morning too - i really didn't get on with the seat - i felt like i was sat on a breeze block!
Great review & bike . How tall are you please ?
6'2 👍
Been looking forward to this! Great to hear what you think. What options you gone for? Or is it a surprise??😂
Nothing yet Dave but probably going to get the sports pack..
@ yea I think that’s the one to get. You going aftermarket full exhaust?
Bring it to America! We will buy them!
Also, when did everyone decide they ‘need’ Brembo brakes and Ohlins shocks? I’ve had two Ducatis with Brembo brakes and tbh I didn’t think they were anything special. The brakes on my old K7 GSXR were miles better 🤷♂️
If I didn’t get my street triple 765r last year I defo would of looked into getting one of these especially in the red shame I’d loose too much on my str 🙈
Frame and subframe is done in one piece for cost savings .
I just want it in the US 😮
The good news is that the other manufacturers will have to price match this if they want sales.
Always on indicators. Stupid flashing brake lights. The horn / indicator switches are in the wrong spot and no cruise control.
Otherwise it's pretty sweet.
Looks amazing! Top job Honda getting us something that is under 10k too - the only people who'll dislike this, will be those who have coughed up 15k+ for a 'super naked' 😁
Thinking about it a bit more you could get the strandard one, an exhaust and a map for not a lot different money to the SP. More power and torque, miles better throttle response than any euro-strangled engine and it gets rid of that big ugly dustbin on the side.
Hoping they make it to the usa in the near future. Dunno why we havent gotten any of the hornet models.
