I went to Sephora inside a Kohls by me a few days ago, and they had a “try me” sticker on a bottle of this peel. It’s definitely not a product to allow shoppers to just try in store. I was really surprised.

Love this. As estheticians the words "peel", "chemical" or "acid" don't scare us and we understand them from a scientific and formulation standpoint. These peels despite being over the counter can be so so damaging to the skin. But simultaneously, they're also not something to fear and can be extremely effective and should be a first approach at changing skin before jumping right into laser and prescriptions or other procedures.
I highly recommend everyone trying one out and giving them a chance and not be afraid. Truly, unless you're using it completely incorrectly or already compromised skin, most consumer peels you can buy as a non professional aren't strong enough to burn or damage your skin. It's when you're not versed and have skin not used to acids and leave them on to long that it becomes a danger.
Like Cass said, if you exfoliate before, leave on too long, apply on wet skin, it messes with the way the product was intended to work. I'm sure anyone who's done a peel at home can remember that a peel hurts way more when washing it off. Water reactivates the acids and affects your skins pH. Applying the ordinary peel on wet skin could make it possibly two to four times more potent and aggressive than intended during formulation.
In (not) short, the ingredients themselves aren't villains its the fear mongering and widely distributed misinformation from non processional influencers and the like. Wow sorry for that rant. I've aligned with Cass for so long on this and it's such a touchy subject for us as licensed pros in the field

I just want to say "Thank you!". Your channel has been an absolute lifesaver for a mom who knew nothing about skin care. A little over 2 years ago I was looking for advice on what to do as my daughter was going through puberty and she had to deal with hormonal acne. I was one of those people that never had acne as a teen but it hit me hard in my 20's, but I didn't have anyone who could give me advice. I was left with some scarring and uneven skin. 9 years ago I changed my diet and birth control and that helped a lot, but some scarring remained. In my search to help my tween, I came upon you. I watched so many of your videos, and I bought the ordinary products for my daughter, I also placed her on a birth control to help with her periods and started using the products myself. I can happily say that my daughter's skin has cleared up entirely with no lasting scarring and I can see the difference in my skin as well. I noticed that one of my scars that my previous beautician said was "something that I would have to live with" has started to get smaller and is fading. Like I said your channel is a life saver. 💞

I have lasting sun damage which I attribute to misuse of this product. I have combination skin and am in my early thirties. A few years ago I used to use this product occasionally, never more than once a week and always a thin layer, however sometimes I would leave it on for more than ten minutes (because despite the results I didnt take the strength of it seriously despite advice) and sometimes I was inconsistent with applying my 50spf the week following (which they say is cruically important and I knew this). And maybe a few times, there was sunny weather and I was outside walking enjoying the weather without 50spf. During the summer later in the year after starting the mask, I noticed that I had pigmentation appear at first it was like light freckling, but it became darker. The reason I think it is a result of the mask and the way I used it is that, my under eye area is light and then there is a clear line where it is then brown and pigmented around the eyes just where the mask is applied (it looks like white rings under my eyes). I wasnt using a retinoid at the time. The mask at the time of use, would give my dry sensitive combination skin, a noticable brightness following removal and I thought it was amazing. Since I linked it to the mask, I stoped using it and have been using various serums and been far more consistent with 50spf each day. The pigmentation is much the same now, no great improvement though and it is two and a half years later. If you use the product, please follow the instructions and if you have sensitive, fair, thin skin use it for less than the recommended time even if you dont see any negative result and no matter what type of skin, always use 50spf and reapply during the day. In addition, to this I know that ordinarily sun damage takes years to show up, so the sooner you are consistent with spf the better and it is never too late to start. I will be continuing to try lightening the damage and will be considering different treatments to fix the sun damage. Has anyone else besides myself and one other person here had a similar experience?

I did a patch test first, and for the first few times I only left it on for 5 mins. Now I go for a whole 10 mins. It works so well for my skin, the texture is less visible. I only do it twice a week and I moisturise my skin heavily after the peel.

I kinda got out of the habit of using this stuff. I started getting those lovely seasonal breakouts over the summer. I'd been using it for several months and liked it because my PIH faded faster and I broke out less frequently, but when the weather changed, and I was constantly getting yet another nasty pimple that either popped on its own or was correctly drained and couldn't be exposed to AHAs while it healed, and I was just overall annoyed that nothing can stop my summer breakouts, I just stopped using this product. Well this video reminded me that it helped my skin during other seasons, so I picked it back up. Two weeks/four applications later, my two-month-old PIH is gone, and my month-old PIH is so much lighter that I thought it was gone till I did a double take and looked closer. Moisturizer, niacinamide, N-acetyl glucosamine, and sunscreen all help - my PIH used to stick around for 6 months without good skincare. But I forgot how much this product fast-forwards the process! It's convinced me to add a gentler glycolic product every other day. It's my hope that if I stay consistent, it might stimulate enough collagen production to help fill out my icepick and boxcar scars. But since anything OTC will probably take years to improve texture significantly, it'll be hard to know if I'm getting more benefit from AHAs or retinoids.

Thank you for doing the tutorials. I started in 2020 after being scared for a few months. I did everything you said and patch tested and now I do it once to twice a week. Even with my sensitive skin it helps SO much. I looked back at my 2016 pictures and I had at least 2/3 more tiny scars on my forehead that are so evened out now. I was terrified of peel’s as I got bad instruction (or did not understand them) back in 2009 and swore the at home ones off. But this stuff is amazing. Not perfect. But mixed with occasional adapelene in my routine, I see a difference in my scars anyway. Thanks Cass ❤️
Thanks for showing how to do this properly. 🤗

Hi! 35, 20 years of acne. Do you find (the severity of) your acne correlates to the fluctuations in your hormonal cycle?
Also, yes… Skincare only does so much, when the cause of our acne is coming from within. Man, hormones are powerful. And inflammation, etc. I do love this peel, and I agree: the only thing that actually made me think: “wow, it does something”! (Except for Accutane, but that was temporary)

I have somewhat of that sourdough bread consisitency on my chin and lower cheeks, but for me it's more of an overall texture issue than acne scars. I've also been using the ordinary solution and it definitely made a difference in my skin texture. I did start retinol this month, but since I *just* started with that on the 0.1 concentration from The Ordinary, so I don't think that that already made a drastic difference to my skin.
Aside from the texture, I actually love my skin for the most part. I rarely break out - when I do, I can usually pinpoint it to extreme stress - and while I am redness prone, it's never been a massive issue. But I became a skintellectual around 6 months ago and skincare has become part of my morning and evening routine, because it makes me feel good and helps me stay consistant in my skin and oral care despite my severe ADHD. You and James Welsh have been some of my major inspirations and I can say confidently that if I hadn't gotten more involved with skin care, I would probably be much closer to a skin cancer diagnosis, since I've had *severe* sunburns in the past, before SPF became my bestie. (Expensive bestie, if I may add)

I love the ordinary products same with cerave they really help my skin but it takes a long time to see major progress so you will end up going through a bottle or two till you see a lot of progress. But after few uses even one you will definitely see improvement. But this and retinol has helped so much, I still do have lot of texture hyperpigmentation rosacea and big pores and such though, but it’s better and using hyaluronic acid and moisturizer with sunscreen is what makes difference in prevention as well as cleansing morning and night. I do feel like I need a stronger retinol though.
I’m not sure it’s for everyone though and I know for some people they can’t handle even a few minutes cause they feel burning, but I haven’t felt that with this product
