This lake was a popular day hike destination for campers at the campground, and was pretty busy. It was definitely beautiful, but I prefer the lakes more in the backcountry!! You will see them in the other video segments. Thanks!

Looks like a very diversified Forest

Yes, the entire area is incredible.. from lodgepole pine forests, rivers, volcanic cinder cones and basalt columns of the Devil's Postpile. If you ever get the chance, do the JMT! Thanks for watching/subbing!

Nice training hike, Paul. The cinder cones were pretty cool. It was interesting to learn about them in your description. The views were really nice. Plus the air was clean! That view at 13:35 was really nice. Triple digit temps are pretty warm for hiking. Fun to see the deer run right up to you. Beautiful falls. Cool video and hike. Have a great day.

Nice hike, great filming. I'll be base camping at Coldwater Campground in Mammoth this coming summer and have many day hikes planned, including going over Mammoth Pass to Red's Meadow. I'd actually like to do an overnighter and stay at that nice campsite next to the creek between the cones that you highlighted. I spotted that last summer and thought it would make for an easier overnight trip.

I’d also consider Duck Pass to Reds. Could be an overnight or long day hike, worth t either way.

Some of the trees in the video are huge

The Lodgepole pines are pretty tall. There are ancient Junipers in my other videos that are pretty thick and gnarly. California is the land of the Redwoods, and they are definitely the tallest anywhere!

I got the mini a couple years ago still haven’t had it out on trails yet

Two of my crew had issues with reception with their mini's. I would consider trading up to the newer model that just came out, it may be better; do some research. But my full size worked fine, when theirs did not, in the same spot. Strange, but just telling it as I see it.

If you mean the Garmin, yeah- I would never go in the backcountry without it. Sure, many people do but it is all about your comfort level. While in the Sierras you could be two days or more walk from any help or ranger station. 3 or 4 to a trailhead. Always hike prepared.
