- Director Autumn de Wilde is interviewed for her movie Emma. in which she directors Anya Taylor-Joy, Callum Turner, Josh O'Connor, Chloe Pirrie, Mia Goth, Bill Nighy and Miranda Hart.
During the interview (conducted by Stefan Pape), they discuss how Autumn's work on music videos helped make this film and what it was about Anya Taylor-Joy that was perfect for the role as Emma.
Plot: In 1800s England, a well-meaning but selfish young woman meddles in the love lives of her friends.

Your EMMA movie was incredible and incredibly beautiful. We need to see more. It is a masterpiece and my favorite English language movie of all time. I only like Cyrano De Bergerac with Depardieu as much as this.

This director was not what I was expecting. The look of the movie as seen in the trailer made me think, "I like Jane Austen, but I can't take another lavish period movie about the problems of the uber-WASP, inbred, stuck-up British upper classes who even when they are supposedly poor, have maids.
But this woman hints at trying to make us see beyond the blindingly white, eyebrowless caricatures on screen.
By the way, folks like me aren't resentful of the fact that Little Women or Emma get constantly remade because the source material was written by a woman. We just hate the fact that these types of film are the only prestige movies about women that get made.
There are interesting stories to be told about women outside of classic literature.
