    Directed by Autumn de Wilde and starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Johnny Flynn, Bill Nighy, Mia Goth, Josh O'Connor, Callum Turner...
    Jane Austen's beloved comedy about finding your equal and earning your happy ending, is reimagined in this. Handsome, clever, and rich, Emma Woodhouse is a restless queen bee without rivals in her sleepy little town. In this glittering satire of social class and the pain of growing up, Emma must adventure through misguided matches and romantic missteps to find the love that has been there all along.

      Ok calm down! Everyone I know (whose cinematic opinion I care about 😄) has saluted numerous aspects of this film, everyone from English literature students to experienced cineastes to "normal" viewers. We all thought the cast, script, cinematography costumes and music (etc.) were so on point that they make this nostalgic parody the best Emma film so far and also the smartest modern screen adaptations of classic British literature since Pride and Prejudice in 2005 (and maybe Jane Eyre, 2011). Besides, I think it's a bit early to speak of 'under' - or 'overrated' anyway, as the film has only been out for a relatively short time and not nearly been seen by the many fans and critics who'd normally have reviewed it over the past weeks. In Germany, where I live, the movie was supposed to premiere in February and had been heavily promoted by the big cinema franchises. Well, due to the lockdown, my friends and I didn't get to see it until two weeks ago... in a cute little theater around the blog showing it that one night only. You probably can't really talk about an average international opinion until the beginning of 2021 - when Emma will play a certain role during the awards season, believe me!

      @Zsuzsanna Varga also they forgot about all of the Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill thing... in the book it is kind of a plot twist for Emma to realize how mean she had been.

    When I first saw this movie it took me aback. I have watched it multiple times since and it never gets old. In fact, it is my favorite Austen rendition of all time. There is something new to discover every time I see it and the actors seem to be growing more attractive with each viewing. The aesthetics and the colors are phenomenal, the shots are beautiful, the music PERFECT, the acting fantastic, the comic aspect wonderful. This is a real masterpiece!

    I had so wanted to see this film in the theater, but I thoroughly enjoyed it on the small screen. The acting of this ensemble of actors was so good, the costumes and cinematography fantastic. I don’t usually rewatch movies, but like Little Women, I finished it and immediately watched it again. I hope it gets some Oscar attention.

    Anna Taylor Joy’s accent going back and forth between American and English is really throwing me off

    • @milcaful
      @milcaful 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      She is from Argentina, so Spanish is her mother tongue. She moved to England when she was 8 and learn how to speak english there. So when she is in a more relaxed enviroment like this you can hear that 'openess' that spanish people have while speaking english. I think in the movie her english accent is quite convincing

    • @taylort5672
      @taylort5672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@milcaful Probably convincing because she lived in England longer than she did in Argentina, starred in many English shows, and has an English mother and Scottish father. I hear no trace of a Spanish accent, just occasionally drops into American, Not sure at all what you mean by openess.

    • @milcaful
      @milcaful 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@taylort5672 First of all, her father is from Argentina. He has scottish roots like most of the argentinians have some kind of european roots. Her paternal family lives in Argentina and even she has 2 brothers living in the country. Her mother tongue is spanish, she has said it a million times, and she only learned english at 8 years old. SHE HAS SAID that she does not have just an english accent, it depends who she is talking to, she mimics that accent. I believe she has a perfect english accent but she claims she has a chameleon accent. And that's why like you said she ocassionally drops into american. Stop trying to erase part of her history like dude. And one of the main differences from american and english accents is the way the person opens the mouth to speak, the more open more american you sound in some particular sounds

    • @_danisson
      @_danisson 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@milcaful Agree. Obviosly you cant hear no trace of an spanish accent because she learn english at age 8 with her mother and other family (english native speakers ) in England. Besides she is an actress ( a good one ) , you cant expect she talk like sofia vergara or salma hayek ( strong latino accent ). But his mother tonge is spanish ( Argentina ) and speaked like his fathers and brothers talk, with an argentinian accent.

    • @seraphik
      @seraphik 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@_danisson something about the cadence and huskiness of her voice though. it's not nearly as clipped as British English or as quick and full of questions? like your average American voice? you know what i mean? 😆 ngl i love the way she talks lol

    • @AW-uv3cb
      @AW-uv3cb 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      What are you talking about? It looks like what it's supposed to be, ie. muslin and cotton when it's supposed to be muslin and cotton (one of the most popular fabrics in the Regency era), and velvet and silk and gauze and wool when it's supposed to be velvet and silk and gauze and wool. This movie is famous as one of the most (if not THE most accurate) representations of Regency fashions out there, with some of the looks lifted directly from period portraits and preserved pieces of clothing. Just because it's not shiny, doesn't mean it's cheap - quite the opposite. [EDIT] If you mean Anya Taylor-Joy's dress here in the interview, it's a silk petticoat that goes under the actual sheer dress, that's why it looks so simple.
